I personally find this annoying. If I want to search, I'll click the search icon. Often I'm looking at a long directory listing and simply want to jump to a certain point in it, and type-ahead find works great for that. Would Ubuntu consider patching type-ahead find back in? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1783202] [NEW] Build Firefox with gpsd location provider support (--enable-gpsd)
Public bug reported: Firefox 50+ has support for gpsd, see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1250922 That would allow users with a GPS device to use the provided GPS data for the Geolocation API within the browser - not by default (in stable release builds), but only after explicitly setting 'geo.location.use_gpsd' to 'true' in about:config. Which is a good thing, as no defaults change. However that support has to be enabled with the build flag --enable-gpsd. As you can see in toolkit/moz.configure the only thing that is needed to build Firefox with gpsd support is libgps-dev installed on the build system: https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/file/ccfd7b716a91/toolkit/moz.configure#l550 If you want to dig deeper here are the three changes that brought gpsd support: https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/76b04196acce https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/a1a42e8d66e9 https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/457be633b6cc There is not much magic here: When users switch on the flag 'geo.location.use_gpsd', Firefox tries to get the position from gpsd, if no location information is received from GPS within a few seconds, as fallback Mozilla Location Service provides a position instead. The position however will be updated once GPS is ready. If GPS fails, MLS will take over again until GPS has been restored. The only thing you might want to be aware of is that on non-release builds, the gpsd location provider is enabled by default, meaning 'geo.location.use_gpsd' is 'true' (see revision a1a42e8d66e9) because Firefox devs want to give it some testing. However that shouldn't be an issue, because as described, MLS acts as fallback after a few seconds anyway. What do you think? ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1783202 Title: Build Firefox with gpsd location provider support (--enable-gpsd) Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Firefox 50+ has support for gpsd, see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1250922 That would allow users with a GPS device to use the provided GPS data for the Geolocation API within the browser - not by default (in stable release builds), but only after explicitly setting 'geo.location.use_gpsd' to 'true' in about:config. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1579501] Re: graphics distorted, lightdm restarting
Forgot to mention I am running GeForce 9800 GT with driver: Nvidia 340.96 Ubuntu 16.04.1 with latest updates/patches Linux 4.4.0-38-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 6 15:42:33 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux compiz 0.9.12.2+16.04.20160823-0ubuntu1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579501 Title: graphics distorted, lightdm restarting Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The system was running ubuntu 12.04 without any problems, quite fast and definitly worth keeping, I was able to play 3D games at decent quality while using official nvidia drivers. Overall a pretty stable system based on an Intel 965 Chipset and a Geforce 7600. I did a clean install of 16.04 and added nvidia-graphics- drivers-304-updates. At first the system was horribly unstable, displayed garbage at the slighted GPU load, even starting frozen bubble in full screen made lightdm restart. After using "dconf write /org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/opengl/enable-x11-sync false" the system became stable but display is still often distorted, missing picture elements, doesn't draw all elements in firefox, scrolling of firefox and terminal output is missing parts. This happens around once every minute so it is still workable but unprofessional. Happens a lot more often in Firefox than any other application. Also I have the feeling lots of stuff is working a lot slower than it did in 12.04, e.g. starting frozen bubble in full screen takes a lot longer than earlier. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1579501] Re: graphics distorted, lightdm restarting
I also just bumped into this issue. That's what's written in my log: Sep 29 12:28:09 mycoolpc kernel: [14246.377138] NVRM: Xid (PCI::01:00): 13, Graphics Exception: ChID 0003, Class 8297, Offset 15e0, Data I will disable x11-sync for now and see how this is going. If someone could fix this bug this would be nice.
