[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2007913] Re: HDMI Output sound has disappeared after Ubuntu update
Hi, I also have the same issue. In my case, I use DP to connect my monitor to my computer and I was able to use the monitor's built in audio without problems. I have even reinstalled Ubuntu just to check if it was my fault that the audio stopped working. Note, the audio works on Windows. I am currently on kernel 5.19.0-38-generic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2007913 Title: HDMI Output sound has disappeared after Ubuntu update Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After months using the HDMI output without problems, it has stopped working after a system update two days ago. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu 18.10 login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver
Just to say that I've tested the '#WaylandEnable=false' method (I was having the same problem with the nVidia drivers) and it works great! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798790 Title: Ubuntu 18.10 login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/issues/435 --- The boot process hangs with the last message being "started bpfilter". There is unusual Network activity during that time. The light of the WiFi adapter is blinking a lot. I am not sure the problem is with the gdm3 package. As a matter of fact, I would remove it and let someone more experienced to set it. I'm afraid I might break something, though. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem: 1. Boot Ubuntu 18.10 with the Nvidia proprietary drivers installed. The behavior you expected: I expected Ubuntu 18.10 to boot normally. The behavior you actually encountered: The computer gets stuck in a command-like environment with the last message being "started bpfilter". You can't type any commands. I have found that uninstalling the Nvidia proprietary drivers by going into recovery mode fixes the issue. Booting with the earlier kernel doesn't fix the issue. Installing the earlier v.340 driver also doesn't fix the issue. This (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1032639/ubuntu-18-04-stuck-in- boot-after-starting-gnome-display-manager-on-intel-graphic) seems relevant. This is where I found the "solution". [Desktop-packages] [Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share
After some browsing it turns out this is not really a bug, but shall we say a "security feature". There is this pklocalauthority stuff (see man page) that basically makes authorization things more complex, and to me, not logical. See ralph.ronnquist comment at Debian user forums page http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=128280 Therefore, it turns out the nautilus/gvfs-mount needs your password, but not for remote system. It wants your password for LOCAL system... that worked for me, no matter how strange it is. I mean, the nautilus clearly states it needs a username/password for remote system? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/510059 Title: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share Status in gvfs: Unknown Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: nautilus My Ubuntu Desktop (9.10, 64-bit) VM can't connect to my Windows 7 (64-bit, Ultimate) File Share using Nautilus. I purged samba and reinstalled it - no change. I have several personal shared folders, made from nautilus, and all Win machines can reach them (as guest user). However, I can not reach a Win2008 server or other Win7 - shared folder. Both gvfs-mount and nautilus dialogue keep asking for password/domain again and again. Setting aforementioned combinations such as: client lanman auth = no client ntlmv2 auth = no client ntlm = yes .. does not help. So I have browsed the old /etc/samba/ and have found several older smb.conf files: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9542 Mar 1 2015 smb.conf.old.gadmin-samba-0.3.2 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9542 Jun 11 2015 smb.conf.ucf-dist Basically, these two old were from time when everything was ok, and guess what, after I have copied them in smb.conf, nautilus and gvfs-mount still were not working (and keep asking for password/domain). There you have it. It is not a thing in smb.conf, but (my best guess) the bug is probably in gvfs-mont. I enter "smb://" in the address bar and then it comes up with a password dialog (see screenshot) and then after entering the correct login info, the dialog disappears for a second or two but then reappears again. The dialog always comes back up and the share is never mounted. * Connecting from an XP box on the network to the windows 7 share works just fine. * Connecting from the Ubuntu machine to the windows 7 share using the appropriate 'smbmount' command works just fine. * Connecting from the Ubuntu machine (using the nautilus GUI) to the XP box (password protected) works just fine. * Then I turned off password protection in Win7, rebooted the win7 machine, and still all of the above tests turned out the same. And the Ubuntu machine still doesn't connect to the windows share using the nautilus GUI, and still displays the password dialog even though no password is required anymore. * I tried using smbclient to view the shares, here is the output (not sure if I should be trying something else using the smbclient program): o eddie@eddie-ubuntu:~$ smbclient -L eddie-win7 Enter eddie's password: session setup failed: SUCCESS - 0 ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun Jan 17 15:41:28 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nautilus InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release amd64 (20091027) Package: nautilus 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu3 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-17.54-server SourcePackage: nautilus Uname: Linux 2.6.31-17-server x86_64 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/510059/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1451276] Re: No mouse over highlight in libreoffice menus in Kubuntu
Kubuntu devs doesn't seem to follow this bug. Btw I asked them few times last couple years about shipping libreoffice-gtk instead of buggy libreoffice-kde, but they seemed not interesed. You can ask them yourself in kubuntu-devel irc channal on freenode. If your internal mic is either completely silent (no signal), or you can possibly pick a very small sound, with much background noise, even though you have set gain to maximum, there is something you could try. Install the pavucontrol application, start it and go to the "Input Devices" tab. Unlock the channels (there is a keylock icon), then mute the right channel while keeping the left channel at the volume you want. If the internal mic is now working correctly, you have an inverted internal mic, so that your right channel cancels out the left one. (If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost" using the Q,E,Z,C keys.) If so, please file a separate bug against the alsa-driver for your issue, make sure hardware info gets attached to it (either alsa-info as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo or the standard ones that follows when you do "ubuntu-bug alsa-driver" ), then write a comment in this bug, with your machine name and a pointer to the other bug. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1272338] Re: Xorg memory leak on trusty
I know this specific bug was fixed, but I just wanted to say that I just installed Ubuntu 14.04. My PC has been running for over 9 hours for now and Xorg has not been using more than 200 MB RAM(whereas before the update, the memory consumption would keep drastically increasing over time). I can now finally run 2 separate Chrome windows(usually 2 different user sessions with multiple tabs open), without my computer freezing for over 10 minutes sometimes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272338 Title: Xorg memory leak on trusty Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: After a few hours Xorg process was consuming a GB of RAM, after a day or so it was 2GB, now after 2 days it's over 4GB. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 601632] Re: Xorg/Radeon driver freezed after an hour of playing flash videos
Hi, thank you for your response. I do not posses hardware anymore, so can not personally do more testing on that hardware. If it could help, i think I remember using later versions of XUbuntu on that hardware and don't remember I could not use it. So it is to someone else to test it further and up to you to retract this bug report, since original poster (me) is unable to test it anymore, due to hardware absence. Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919809 Title: [CMI8788] Xonar DG: no front panel or recording support Status in ALSA driver: New Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Running precise, though I don't recall this working in oneiric either. None of the front panel outputs/inputs on the Xonar DG are detected at all. They are hooked up, as it works fine on Windows. Plugging in headphones doesn't switch the output, and a microphone on the front is not detected. In sound preferences and pavucontrol, the card is listed as having three connectors: "Analog Output / Speaker" (works), "Analog Output / Headphones 1", and "Analog Output / Headphones 2." Changing the selected connector has no effect, and reverts back to Speaker when the settings view is reloaded. Additionally, setting via pacmd results in "failed to set sink port."[1] Interestingly enough, alsamixer has an Analog Output selector with different outputs than reported by PulseAudio. These are Speakers, Headphones, and FP Headphones. Switching between these produces an audible "click" from the sound card (normal, it's in the switching circuit) so it's definitely communicating with the card. However, the front panel audio still does not work. Both Speakers and FP Headphones play out of the speakers, while Headphones outputs nothing at all. Interestingly, alsamixer has no volume sliders for output, but that's a separate issue. (The output sliders do work in PulseAudio, so that's good enough for now.) I logged to another machine using Xubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit x86 3.2.0-34-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP i686 i686 i386 with ssh -X and started `sudo synaptic` Synaptic seems to work fine, over ssh, but `Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"` is displayed in terminal (Runnung Openindiana/Illumos 151a7 on ssh client side if that is important) ** Attachment added: "canberra-gtk-module.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libcanberra/+bug/883614/+attachment/3456216/+files/canberra-gtk-module.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libcanberra in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883614 Title: Gtk-Message: Failed to load module canberra-gtk-module Status in “libcanberra” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When starting Thunderbird from Konsole, I receive this error: Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" This also appears when starting other programs.
