[Desktop-packages] [Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus
I suggested the exact same thing due to this other bug: New windows are moved to front but don't take focus https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/781931/comments/31 TOO MUCH CLICKING! Apps and menus should follow mouse over focus. Will fix many issues. I use fullscreen apps a lot. This is how I would prefer it: Default: Fullscreen apps should always show global menus. Do not hide. Minimized apps should have the menus locally integrated, less distance to travel to get to menu! Optional: Hide global menus non-locally integrated menus on minimized apps The highest foreground app must by default grab focus Any app you move your mouse over must get Menu focus, don't bring to foreground though! interacting with the focused app will bring it to foreground, like keyboard input. Love unity and all the features. But the focus and global menu thing is a bit annoying. Some refinement needed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682788 Title: Improve Unity menus Status in Ayatana Design: Fix Committed Status in Compiz: Triaged Status in Compiz Core: Triaged Status in Unity: In Progress Status in “compiz” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “metacity” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in Baltix GNU/Linux: Confirmed Bug description: Global menu in general (not only in Unity) is very unergonomic on large screens (see the attached screenshot) because if you have a small window somewhere near the low right corner you have to move the cursor all the way up to to panel to reach the menu. I understand why the global menu was used for the netbook edition (it saves space and most windows are maximized), but since Unity is intended to be for the desktop edition there should be an option to switch to the traditional position of the app menu. It would be welcomed by many desktop users. A commonly suggested solution is: [ ] Global Menu on [ ] Global Menu off [ ] Global Menu only for maximized windows The default is usually suggested as either the first (on) or last (on only for maximized windows). - Desired change: Implement the 'Enhanced Menu' project for 12.10. Hi All, Any update on this bug. I have upgraded to beta 2 and still occurring. I can confirm that right clicking on the text does provide the correct menu and does not deselect all the files. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 912446] Re: Allow an independent context menu
I get why you would have contextually relevant menus, not a bad feature. But I would like to suggest that a simple compromise be this: if you have selected files, while holding ctrl or shift and right click anywhere in the window, then the correct menu for selected files should appear. otherwise if you right click in any empty space that context menu appears. It is really frustrating to loose a bunch of files selected by right clicking on an empty space. An empty space you have been clicking on for the last 10 years. on all kinds of OS's. it's the expected behavior. But what i also have to say is. For a long time I have wished for the feature that I can create a new folder or file without having scroll down and find empty space. That I like. But please just add, if files are selected and ctrl or shift is down, bring up copy. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/912446 Title: Allow an independent context menu Status in Nautilus: New Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: After yesterdays updates a right click, mostly on text files, doesn't display complete context menu. (video) It displays always e.g. create new file, properties, dis- and enlarge. It randomly doesn't display e.g. rename, cut and paste. It doesn't display mostly on text files, rarely on .ogv or .png files. Update: The confusion came from a bug fix yesterday, please note Comment #2. Due to usability issues changed the description to request an independent context menu. If a file name is very short, for example 'fo' or '1' a user needs to have sufficient target skills in order to access the appropriate context menu via right click. Expected: Allow independent context menu otherwise it may be randomly lost. Leave it up to user which action to select. It's more confusing to miss context than to right click and have a comprehensive selection offered. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 923749] Re: New push mouse offscreen feature really difficult to get
Would like to add that a few updates came through and set the edge stop velocity by default to 65. This makes transitioning between multiple monitors, smoothly, near impossible and extremely annoying. I have set it back down to 20 which improves the response a lot. I have also set my reveal sensitivity to High and seems ok for mouse. But still not sensitive enough for my touchpad. So I would say the sliders needs to be adjusted as so: The line it locks at should be in the middle. That line it should be the default but the same sensitivity as High is currently. The proposed High should be even more sensitive than the current one. Then we have a high range to play with. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/923749 Title: New push mouse offscreen feature really difficult to get Status in Unity: Triaged Status in Unity Distro Priority: Fix Committed Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “gnome-control-center” source package in Precise: Fix Released Status in “unity” source package in Precise: Triaged Bug description: In unity 5.2 RC1: - revealing the launcher by putting mouse on the edge and pushing seems very hard (the distance to push it long). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 921540] Re: Multimonitor setup breaks and reverts to mirror setup randomly and while watching youtube videos
HI thanks for the response. In fact today when it happened a pop-up came up saying it was compiz that crashed. I could not report that crash as I had issue with missing packages. I have installed the pkgs now and hopefully next time I can report it. The indicator applet issue seem to have been fixed in a recent update, at this time, after compiz crash, my indicator is working fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/921540 Title: Multimonitor setup breaks and reverts to mirror setup randomly and while watching youtube videos Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: About once a day at random times my dual screen multimonitor setup suddenly goes black and then reverts back to mirror setup. Context menus also fail to appear. This often disappeared for no apparent reason after I had used Firefox for a while. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 923749] Re: New push mouse offscreen feature really difficult to get
If I move my mouse from left primary screen to right secondary screen, please could the edge stop velocity be 0 when going in that direction. only when moving from right to left on the secondary screen should the mouse get stuck and then require more pressure to open the launcher. There is no need to try and lock my mouse when moving from left to right. This is even worse on trackpad. Related issue: on multimonitor setup, going from one monitor to the edge suffer from the same issue (you have to push the mouse a lot, more than it felt naturally needed). Especially when you drag a window using the trackpad. Also, when you put your mouse on the central point slowly to go to monitor 2, you get stuck even if you believe that the mouse is already on the monitor 2 (because there is one pixel left on monitor 1 and the whole cursor is drawn on monitor 2) This is on a dell Latitute XT2, with default mouse velocity option. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 723862] Re: Nautilus quicklist does not contain the locations previously found under the 'Places' menu.
There are some other inconsistencies as well. 1. If nautilus is open in the background behind another app, clicking a QLBM (quicklist bookmark) opens and browses to that bookmark in the background nautilus but does not bring the window to the foreground. This is intermittent, sometimes the window is brought to foreground, sometimes not. Sometimes it happens when nautilus is already open. Sometimes it browses to the folder, sometimes it opens a whole new window and browses to it. really struggling to consistently reproduce, seems to happen at random. 2. With an open nautilus window, in foreground when you try clicking the home folder QLBM, nothing happens. But then trying to click any other QLBM after that suddenly a new nautilus window opens focusing on home folder. Do the same for when nautilus is in the background, it just brings the window to the foreground but does not open home folder. 3. Sometimes the QLBM's don't work at all and causes a nautilus crash. Click bookmark and nothing happens, click another bookmark nothing happens. Click home folder QLBM or just the home folder icon in launcher and then it opens, or nothing will happen for a second and then nautilus crashes. This too is intermittent, struggling to reproduce consistently. Will play around some more and report back tomorrow -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723862 Title: Nautilus quicklist does not contain the locations previously found under the 'Places' menu. This bug just occurred to me on oneiric, it's been how long since Lucid? Still not assigned? Thanks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xdg-user-dirs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209513 Title: After upgrade, Update standard folders to current language threatens to rename your home folder Status in “xdg-user-dirs” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Occurs during: * Ubuntu Gutsy upgrade to Hardy beta * Ubuntu 8.04.1 routine updates * Ubuntu 8.04.1 upgrade to Intrepid beta After upgrading, this dialog appears: Update standard folders to current language? You have logged in in a new language. You can automatically update the names of some standard folders in your home folder to match this language. The update would change the following folders: Current folder name: New folder name: /home/jamie /home/jamie/Videos Note that existing content will not be moved. WTF? (My home directory _is_ /home/jamie). What is this trying to do? Will it rename my home directory? Or is it just updating default directory where Nautilus searches? Or where downloaded files are saved?? (There's no Help button, btw.) The only sane thing is to say No, thanks (i.e. Keep old names). Perhaps that's the wrong answer, but the dialog text isn't clear about what this change does, so I'd be foolish to say yes. Either (1) this shouldn't appear and show those paths, it's a bug, or (2) this dialog is correct, but the text should be better at saying that it's safe and merely changes default paths of no great consequence.
