Title:
network-manager after suspend showing arrow icon instead of wifi icon
  and showing no wifi networks

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
As requested by Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (cyphermox) in bug #1589401
I'm creating my own bug report.

  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Release: 16.04

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname'
or by checking in Software Center
  $ apt-cache policy network-manager
  network-manager:
Installiert: 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.3
Installationskandidat: 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.3

Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
   1.1.93-0ubuntu4 500
  500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages

  3) What you expected to happen
I'm connected by WiFi only, not by a wired connection. I expect to see the
WiFi icon anytime while being connected to my WiFi network. Also, I expect to
see all the WiFi networks around me (at least one other network with good
reception and about 3 with bad reception).

  4) What happened instead
After waking up the laptop from suspend, there appears the ethernet icon
(arrow symbols) instead of the WiFi icon.
Also, in this state there are no other WiFi networks visible in the
network-manager.
However, the laptop is still connected with my WiFi and the connection works
as usual.
Using "service network-manager restart" in the console I can get the wireless
icon back and all the other networks around me are visible again.
This can be reproduced anytime and with 100% "success rate". The problem
appeared with Ubuntu 16.10 and was persistent since.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1606319] Re: Nautilus executing "folder up" command subsequently inside NFS mounted folders

Title:
Nautilus executing "folder up" command subsequently inside NFS mounted
  folders

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I've got automounted several NFS folders using this kind of command in fstab:
  192.168.1.10:/Pictures/mnt/Pictures nfs
noauto,x-systemd.automount,x-systemd.device-timeout=10,x-systemd.idle-timeout=1min
 0 0

These mounts are linked to the default home folders using this kind of
command:
  ln -s /mnt/Pictures/ /home/my_pc/

If I browse into a folder which is physically there (e.g. "Downloads"),
everything is fine.
If I browse into one of the mounted/linked folders, nautilus navigates
subsequently back to the home folder. It navigates in the tree up folder by
folder in about one folder per minute. I can even minimize the Nautilus window
and do something else and when I open the window again it made several steps
back. Therefore any strange commands coming from input devices can be excluded.

Meanwhile I use 18.04 LTS where the problem is solved.
Therefore I have no possibility to provide you with this information.
However, I see that somebody else is affected by the same bug - possibly that

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574347] Re: WiFi networks list disappears (device type not reloaded)

2017-01-26 Thread rjb
I can't confirm. unfortunately this doesn't do the trick for me.
What's different now is that the WiFi is already conected on the login screen
with the arrow icon. As soon as I login, it's the WiFi icon. When I suspend and
return I have arrows again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-10-27 Thread rjb
After performing some more tests:

The triggers for the network-manager showing the arrow icon and no WiFi
networks are:
- Suspend mode (suspend/wake up)
- Hardware wireless button (turn WiFi off/an)
- Wireless network in network-manager GUI (deactivate/activate)
- Network in network-manager GUI (deactivate/activate)

btw: Lock screen has no influence.

When I do "service network-manager restart" once (independent of
network-manager state) I'm getting rid of the problem. After this I can
do everything listed above without loosing the WiFi icon and I'm always
able to see the wireless networks around.

As soon as I do any of this, it's back to default (meaning that next time you
do anything of the listed actions above, the arrow icon will appear and you
won't be able to see other wireless networks:
- reboot
- shut down and boot
- log out and log in

Again: Lock screen has no influence.

2016-10-27 Thread rjb
Dear all,
I have discovered something that may not have been reported in here so far:
After a fresh boot, when you suspend the machine, there will be arrows after
waking up.
If you do "service network-manager restart" once, you'll get the WiFi icon
back. From now on you can suspend as many times you like, the WiFi icon will
stay there!
However, the next time you reboot all this magic is gone.

Can anyone reproduce this?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1636282] Re: network-manager after suspend showing arrow icon instead of wifi icon and showing no wifi networks

2016-10-27 Thread rjb
correction: in my description I was referring to Ubuntu 16.10, however
it's 16.04.1 as seen on the lsb_release output.

So I have found some anomaly in this bug:
After a fresh boot, when I suspend the machine, there will be arrows after

If I do "service network-manager restart" once, I'll get the WiFi icon back.
From now on I can suspend as many times I like, the WiFi icon will stay there

noauto,x-systemd.automount,x-systemd.device-timeout=10,x-systemd.idle-timeout=1min

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1636282] [NEW] network-manager after suspend showing arrow icon instead of wifi icon and showing no wifi networks

2016-10-24 Thread rjb
Public bug reported:

As requested by Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (cyphermox) in bug #1589401 I'm
creating my own bug report.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
$ apt-cache policy network-manager
network-manager:
  Installiert: 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.3
  Installationskandidat: 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.3

Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1.1.93-0ubuntu4 500
500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages

3) What you expected to happen
I'm connected by WiFi only, not by a wired connection. I expect to see the WiFi
icon anytime while being connected to my WiFi network. Also, I expect to see
all the WiFi networks around me (at least one other network with good reception
and about 3 with bad reception).

4) What happened instead
After waking up the laptop from suspend, there appears the ethernet icon (arrow
symbols) instead of the WiFi icon.
Also, in this state there are no other WiFi networks visible in the
network-manager.
However, the laptop is still connected with my WiFi and the connection works as
usual.
Using "service network-manager restart" in the console I can get the wireless
icon back and all the other networks around me are visible again.
This can be reproduced anytime and with 100% "success rate". The problem
appeared with Ubuntu 16.10 and was persistent since.

I have to add, that at least since BIOS F.68 and updated Ubuntu, I have not
seen the problem since some time.
I can't say if it was resolved by the BIOS update or the Ubuntu updates.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1583303] Re: Laptop not going to suspend when lid closed

2016-07-05 Thread rjb
Hi Christopher

I just tried updating the BIOS using Windows 10 (it's a dualboot system). But
it seems the BIOS F.67A is not yet supported by Windows 10:
- There's no BIOS update available for download, if you chose Windows 10
- Tried with the BIOS update by chosing Windows 8.1 as OS. BIOS update was
successful, rebooted and after some screen blinking suddenly the BIOS recovery
started and probably flashed the previous BIOS F.66 back. When I looked at the
BIOS setup it does list W7, W8 and W8.1 but not W10 compatibility.

However, my BIOS shows now F.67 - not sure if that's true.
Will wait for HP to hopefully release something for Windows 10 and then retry
and keep you updated.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1583303] Re: Laptop not going to suspend when lid closed

2016-07-04 Thread rjb
Dear Christopher

It's a HP ENVY 17-j188ez.
In the meantime I've noticed that the problem doesn't happen all the time,
however I've not yet found out under which circumstances it happens.

Every night I put it into sleep by closing the lid. Sometimes it works,
sometimes it doesn't. It seems like if it stops working, it won't work
at least until the next reboot (however, a reboot doesn't necessarily
solve it for the moment. It *may* work after a reboot). I was also
thinking if it may be related to updates (e.g. Kernel), because I'd say
it usually works good for a few days, maybe up to weeks and then again
there can be periods where it won't work whatever you try.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574347] Re: [SRU] Re-read the link type if the name changed

2016-06-03 Thread rjb
I do have the same problem as many other's here.
After suspend there's no wifi icon anymore, but the cable network icon with the
two arrows. Also it doesn't show the wifi networks anymore.

My lspci output (on Ubuntu 16.04 clean install):

Bug description:
  [Impact]
NM needs to re-read the DEVTYPE after the device name changed, an example is
that WiFi network list disappears from network manager applet

  [Testcase]
  1. Boot the system. It should include a wireless device.
  2. In a terminal, run 'nmcli dev'.
  3. In the correct case, the line for the wireless device should read "wifi"
under the TYPE column. In a failure case, it will read "ethernet".

After upgrading to the new version, the repeating the above steps
  should give expected behavior.

  [Regression Potential]
Potential of causing regression is relatively small for a one line change to
re-read a value to be known.

  ---

  Problems:-

  1. The network manager applet does not show the list of WiFI APs it can find.
  2. The network manager applet does not the name of the AP to which it is
connected
  3. The icon of the applet shows two vertical arrows in opposite direction -
the wired connection symbol and NOT the wifi connected icon.

  Temporary Workaround:-
Log out and again log back in.
