[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1525987] Re: [needs-update] Update to new AMD Crimson Edition release needed
There has been another update release. This one addresses some build script bug that would have required a new workaround on Ubuntu 15.10 based Distros. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1525987 Title: [needs-update] Update to new AMD Crimson Edition release needed Status in fglrx-installer package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The latest major update has been been added to the AMD fglrx drivers, and packages need to be built for Ubuntu. Unlike 15.5-15.9 this is a major improvement, almost as big as last year's "Omega" update, not just a minor bugfix release. While a few of the biggest updates (such as the AMDCPU driver) were postponed due to not being ready for release, this update contains several major code-base updates, which provide major performance improvements, as well as a handful of bug fixes. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1505274] [NEW] Please provide upgrade to Catalyst 15.9
Public bug reported: AMD released the Catlyist 15.9 update to the AMD driver several months ago, but the driver has yet to be added to the repositories. Some of the patches are no longer necessary, such as the OpenCL provides patch to prevent dependency issues with some OpenCL dependent programs, but I suspect those patches will not be an issue if left in. The driver is tested and thus supported with kernel versions through 3.19.x and Xorg 1.17.x. This means it should work with current V-Series releases and upgrade stacks without version compatibility patches. Like the OpenCL dependency patch, it should do no harm to leave those patches in, and unlike the OpenCL dependency patch, it's probably a good idea to do so. This patch provides several performance fixes and one known corruption fix. Links to release notes: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDCatalyst15-9LINReleaseNotes.aspx Other users should feel free add appropriate links to any bugs they know this upgrade would fix. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: upgrade-software-version -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1505274 Title: Please provide upgrade to Catalyst 15.9 Status in fglrx-installer package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: AMD released the Catlyist 15.9 update to the AMD driver several months ago, but the driver has yet to be added to the repositories. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1462027] Re: [Needs updating] Update fglrx to include AMD 15.5
The open Source drivers don't work perfectly for everything. For desktop use, I would certainly recommend the Open Source drivers over the proprietary ones. They actually run WebGL and JavaScript canvas functions faster. However, for gaming, the Open Source drivers currently lack full OpenGL 4.x support, and thus run into certain issues with some shaders not rendering properly on the latest games. Even if this were not the case, it is not a reason to refuse to update the drivers. As of the latest XOrg, it seems to be running fine with the X-Edgers version of XOrg and the current Ubuntu package. I suspect if the XOrg support patches are pushed forward to the latest driver release they should still work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1462027 Title: [Needs updating] Update fglrx to include AMD 15.5 Status in fglrx-installer package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: AMD Catalyst 15.05 is released in 2/6/2015. I remember also running into another package or two that won't install without xorg-video-abi-15. The best method would be adding the proper provides to the appropriate package. I agree with the sentiment that maybe the wine developers just need to make the wine alsa output play nicer with pulseaudio, and probably modernize it a bit. Another option is to use a multimedia abstraction library for this and some other items (raster/vector rendering, OpenGL instance creation, input etc) to help better handle all OS-specific issues. SDL would work nicely for this. If an abstraction layer was wanted solely for use in audio, OpenAL would probably work nicely. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371897 Title: Occasional sound drops in Wine via PulseAudio Status in Wine: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in wine package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: wine I'm running the Spotify Windows application on two laptops under Wine with both internal and external USB sound card. I agree about putting up a status page somewhere. The wiki would work nicely. This way we can have a link to the code for the driver and direct indicators of what needs to be improved. Also, I don't want to start another flame war, but I'm thinking the driver MIGHT be ready to have a tag in the bug database. This might be a good policy for all unofficial branches. Specifically, they should change the request that any bug that is verified to be caused by the PulseAudio driver (i.e. it goes away when mapping through ALSA). That way we know EXACTLY how much work needs to be done. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371897 Title: Occasional sound drops in Wine via PulseAudio Status in Wine: Confirmed Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “wine” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: wine I'm running the Spotify Windows application on two laptops under Wine with both internal and external USB sound card. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1070966] Re: Mono 3.0 Release is Not In the Repository
