Per Vapp / Ciccio, thank you for your comment. So your hardware and problem may
be tracked, could you please file a new report by executing the following in a
terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

For more on this, please see the official Ubuntu documentation:
Ubuntu X.Org Team, Ubuntu Bug Control, and Ubuntu Bug Squad:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue
Ubuntu Community:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette

Title:
When using KVM switch, display reverts to low resolution

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
When I have my screen resolution set to 1920 x 1080 (16:9), and I use
my KVM switch to change to my laptop, if I am 'away' for more than
about 10 minutes, when I click back to my Ubuntu workstation, the
display is set to some very low, barely recognizable, resolution. As
a work-around, I can click on System Settings and then click on
Displays, and the screen immediate flickers and then resets back to
1920 x 1080, without the need for me to do anything else. This is
most annoying, and it was not seen in previous versions of Ubuntu.

All I would like is the ability to lock the screen resolution so it
doesn't change on me automatically when I am using my KVM and am
  'away' for extended periods.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1095419] Re: When using KVM switch, display reverts to low resolution

2014-01-09 Thread Per Vapp
I tested it. I used the same KVM, but different computer and with 14.04
daily build (without upgrades) there was not problem although the
problem has been arounf for last few Ubuntu releases.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1095419] Re: When using KVM switch, display reverts to low resolution

2014-01-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Bill Mattocks, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

Title:
When using KVM switch, display reverts to low resolution

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

2013-04-17 Thread aewhite
This is a workaround I found on a Google Groups thread by Raj Kiran
Grandhi [1]...

You can get around this by saving the edid data from the monitor to a
file and load the file at X startup instead of querying the monitor
every time. Run nvidia-settings, select your monitor and "Acquire EDID".
Save the edid to some file. Then under the "Device" section of your
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file, add the line:

Option "CustomEDID""CRT-0:/root/edid.bin"

assuming your monitor is called CRT-0 and you have saved the edid file
at /root/edid.bin.

I can confirm that this works for me and I have a very similar setup to
the bug poster.

Title:
When using KVM switch, display reverts to low resolution

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  New
