[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1262736] Re: Add Pantheon to "OnlyShowIn" entry to /usr/share/applications/vino-preferences.desktop
While I tend to agree with you for applications, those filters are useful for system components, you don't want to have 3 "system settings" identic entries under e.g GNOME because KDE and XFCE happen to be installed on the machine and each has its "system settings" UI (just as an example) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to vino in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1262736 Title: Add Pantheon to "OnlyShowIn" entry to /usr/share/applications/vino- preferences.desktop Status in “vino” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Hi there. I use elementary OS, which is based on Ubuntu 12.04. Elementary OS uses the Pantheon desktop environment, which is based entirely on GTK 3. I installed vino so I could enable remote VNC access, but it did not show up in my applications menu. After some digging I found that the /usr/share/applications/vino- preferences.desktop file contained an OnlyShowIn entry with only Gnome and Unity listed. If Pantheon could be added to the list, this would remove a lot of headache for a lot of users who could benefit from this software. Thank you for your consideration! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1262736] Re: Add Pantheon to "OnlyShowIn" entry to /usr/share/applications/vino-preferences.desktop
Hi there. Thank you for your response. I'll surely list this upstream, as I do indeed consider this to be a really, really annoying bug that is easily fixable. Realistically speaking, having a line like OnlyShowIn does nothing except inhibit users from utilizing this software on other desktop environments. "Official" or not, a desktop environment is a desktop environment and shouldn't be ignored with a silly line like that. Again, thanks for your time. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to vino in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1262736 Title: Add Pantheon to "OnlyShowIn" entry to /usr/share/applications/vino- preferences.desktop Status in “vino” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Hi there. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1262736] Re: Add Pantheon to "OnlyShowIn" entry to /usr/share/applications/vino-preferences.desktop
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance. Note that Pantheon is not listed by the freedesktop specification as an official desktop environment value for that key, see http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xdg/xdg-specs/tree/menu/menu-spec.xml#n2153 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to vino in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1262736 Title: Add Pantheon to "OnlyShowIn" entry to /usr/share/applications/vino- preferences.desktop Status in “vino” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Hi there.
