Title:
[Asus UX580] External HDMI display not working with Intel GPU, only
  works with Nvidia

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have Asus UX580 laptop with intel and nvidia 1050 video cards under Ubuntu
19.10.
For some reason dual monitor setup with external monitor via HDMI only works
if I switch to Nvidia only. If I select Intel GPU or "on-demand" in Nvidia
server settings HDMI out is not working at all - xrandr shows HDMI out
disconnected.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1854877] Re: External HDMI display not working with Intel GPU, only works with Nvidia

2019-12-08 Thread Pavel Deg
attached xorg.log.

Thanks for the explanation.
However I do think that since both Windows 10 and Ubuntu use same Nvidia
driver, and Windows can handle HDMI with Intel GPU only, then Ubuntu should be
able to do the same.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1854877] Re: External HDMI display not working with Intel GPU, only works with Nvidia

2019-12-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm not sure Windows is telling you the full truth there. Even if you
tell it to prefer the Intel GPU it can't get around the fact that on
most hybrid laptops if there's only one HDMI port then it will be
physically wired to the secondary GPU, not Intel. Even if the Intel GPU
was doing the work Nvidia would usually be handling the port itself.
