[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1876716] Re: Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" when copying tracks to library
I get the same error. I am using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Rhythmbox 3.4.2. I insert a CD, it has all catalog entries, neither the CD's title nor any entries have the same name as any on disk. The ~/Music directory is fully writable and has only three subdirectories. Highlighting and dragging all the songs to the Music collection worked for the first three CDs that had catalog entries. This would have been the fourth. When I try the Import button and change to 'Audio Disk' as the Source, the button to copy is greyed out. I stopped Rhythmbox. I removed ~/Music, ~/.cache/rhythmbox, and ~/.local/share/rhythmbox. I restarted Rhythmobox, which now has an empty library, and the same CD (without removing it), imports using the same procedure as above. Running from the terminal and sending debug output to the log, as suggested above, yields this as the only seemingly relevant text ``` unable to find device path for mount point /run/user/28050/gvfs/cdda:host=sr0 unable to find device /run/user/28050/gvfs/cdda:host=sr0 in udev finding mount point for /run/user/28050/gvfs/cdda:host=sr0 unable to find mount point for device path /run/user/28050/gvfs/cdda:host=sr0 ``` which seems to be the path to the CD. I rebooted the machine with no CD and reinserted prior to running this test. I cal list the contents of the path ``` $ ls /run/user/28050/gvfs/cdda:host=sr0 'Track 10.wav' 'Track 14.wav' 'Track 18.wav' 'Track 4.wav' 'Track 8.wav' 'Track 11.wav' 'Track 15.wav' 'Track 1.wav' 'Track 5.wav' 'Track 9.wav' 'Track 12.wav' 'Track 16.wav' 'Track 2.wav' 'Track 6.wav' 'Track 13.wav' 'Track 17.wav' 'Track 3.wav' 'Track 7.wav' ``` It seems clear to me that there isn't a problem with accessing the CD since this scenario works if I move a few directories to different names and start from scratch, which works. Then, after successfully importing songs from the very same CD, I put the original directories back, the previous music collection appears intact and plays, and the same error occurs importing the very same CD. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876716 Title: Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" when copying tracks to library Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I tried adding my old iTunes music folder into my (empty) Rhythmbox library having the option 'Copy files that are outside the music library' checked. Hello, I am using Rhythmbox 3.4.3-2 on debian 10 and this bug is a real problem when it comes to import tracks from a cd where the names of said tracks can not be found one the internet. All tracks are named the same ("Inconnu" in french, probably "unknown" in english) and it triggers the bug while reachinf the second track. I think this is a real issue and would suggest raising the importance of it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1876716] Re: Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" when copying tracks to library
1. Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" This error is displayed if the imported ( copy mode ) song is already available in Rhythmbox Music Library. So, if you import ( copy mode ) the same song more than once, this message will be displayed. The import is aborted as a safety measure to avoid unintentionally overwriting your files in the Music Library ( which might have better metadata tag / album art than the copy source ). The error message displayed in the dialog could be better and the UI dialog could offer a choice to "skip / skip all / overwrite / overwrite all / cancel" to the user. You can open a new issue on this at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/rhythmbox/-/issues/new providing all necessary info. 2. The "error" mentioned in the initial bug description ( Import 4974 listed tracks ) is what I think is a hidden issue. I would guess that there are duplicate songs / tracks in your iTunes library, which Rhythmbox import code detects and fails. Try repeating the steps in the initial bug description ( start from empty Rhythmbox Library ). Capture the "rhythmbox.log" and attach it here. Hint: Look for "Could not open resource for writing" string in the rhythmbox.log. The song listed in the line above this error message is the duplicate file which causes the import to fail. 3. The "crash" mentioned in the initial bug description is a different bug tracked in: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/rhythmbox/-/issues/1768 You can update it with your findings. ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/rhythmbox/-/issues #1768 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/rhythmbox/-/issues/1768 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876716 Title: Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" when copying tracks to library Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I tried adding my old iTunes music folder into my (empty) Rhythmbox library having the option 'Copy files that are outside the music library' checked.
