[Desktop-packages] [Bug 730311] Re: firefox takes enormous amounts of RAM and swap space, growing until system crashes
Alright, let's come to an end here. FF60 ESR will finally drop market share below 10% / IE levels, and nobody cares about performance problems and memory leaks on marginal browsers when they were ignored at 30% market share already. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 730311] Re: firefox takes enormous amounts of RAM and swap space, growing until system crashes
Presumably you installed and update from https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/ubuntu/ppa and apport can't collect info from PPA installed applications. Looking at the PPA page it seems that 52.9 ESR is due to be replaced by 60.2 ESR on 27th August. I think you have two options to ensure that your problems are documented: 1) Update the bug report as best as you can with an updated summary, description and tags. 2) Let this bug report go and start afresh if you see the same problems with 60.2 ESR in 3 weeks time. I've changed the status back to "New" for now. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730311 Title: firefox takes enormous amounts of RAM and swap space, growing until system crashes Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox On my T400 with 2GB of RAM / 7GB of swap, the current beta12 of firefox takes easily up to 1 GB of RAM and swap combined; I have also observed amounts of up to 1GB RAM _AND_ 4GB of Swap yesterday. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 730311] Re: firefox takes enormous amounts of RAM and swap space, growing until system crashes
Still an issue with FF ESR 52.9.0 and 8GB of RAM on Ubuntu 18.04. Grows like cancer from a few hundred MB at startup to 2GB+, gets laggy above 1.5GB, gets unusable at 2GB. Not killing the entire system anymore, but I can tell memory usage from zippyness of loading pages and reaction time of especially JS-heavy sites. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730311 Title: firefox takes enormous amounts of RAM and swap space, growing until system crashes Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox On my T400 with 2GB of RAM / 7GB of swap, the current beta12 of firefox takes easily up to 1 GB of RAM and swap combined; I have also observed amounts of up to 1GB RAM _AND_ 4GB of Swap yesterday.
