I switched the default device to alsa with gstreamer-properties. With this workaround the SIP telphony with empathy is possible. This issue is reproducable on my machine, i didn't tested it on another machine, but because of to bug #903799 i think it will be reproducable on other hardware also. I use a DELL Precision M4400 Laptop with an HDA Intel STAC92xx Soundcard. The specific steps should be: 1) Install Ubuntu 11.10. 2) Install Sofiasip Extensions to enable SIP telephony in empathy 3) Configure a SIP Account in empathy (i used 11, a german SIP Provider) 4) Start a call from empathy to another phone 5) After approximatly 10 seconds, pulseaudio will use 100% CPU. This will just happen with empathy and pulseaudio. Mmh, i accepted the Updates that are released for ubuntu the last 2 weeks and the error seems to fixed or has changed a little bit. I configured the gestreamer to use pulseadio and the pulseaudio just used 8-12% CPU. But know the empathy client is using 100% CPU.
