Re: [VOTE] Apache Accumulo 1.5.2 RC1
Release notes and downloads page have been updated on staging. Please give them a read and modify them as you see fit. I tried to go through the entire CHANGES list and pick out the "big" stuff. http://accumulo.staging.apache.org/release_notes/1.5.2.html http://accumulo.staging.apache.org/downloads/ The dist updates to the mirrors should be done late tonight, so I anticipate sending out the announcement email tomorrow sometime. Right, I was mainly thinking of new users, who may not be aware of 1.6.x. Re: [VOTE] Apache Accumulo 1.5.2 RC1
I agree w/ Bill and Corey. I don't think there is anything confusing about 1.5 < 1.6. Also if someone thinks of something that is confusing, we can document that on the website in release notes and/or on download page. I think its ok to make the 1.5.2 announcement independently from 1.6.1. If we are concerned with confusion about adoption of new versions, we should make a point to articulate the purpose very clearly in each of the announcements. Not to be a total jerk, but what's unclear about 1.5 < 1.6? Lots of projects have multiple release lines and it's not an issue. On Fri, Sep 19, 2014 at 12:18 AM, Mike Drob wrote: > +1 to combining. +1 to combining. I've already had questions about upgrading to "this latest release" from somebody currently on the 1.6 line. Our release narrative is not clear and we should not muddle the waters. Re: [VOTE] Apache Accumulo 1.5.2 RC1
Doesn't matter much to me how we do a formal announcement. I think adequate description in 1.5.2 (that it is really a bug-fix release for 1.5) should assuage most fears of confusion between 1.5 and 1.6. My biggest concern would be trivializing the 1.5.2 release. Yes, it's not what we necessarily want people to use, but it is still important for those on 1.5 who still want/need to stay on the 1.5 line. Lots of people have made contributions to 1.5.2 (myself included) -- an announcement is also a bit of recognition for them. Re: [VOTE] Apache Accumulo 1.5.2 RC1
Should we wait to do a release announcement until 1.6.1, so we can batch the two? My main concern here is that I don't want to encourage new 1.5.x adoption when we have 1.6.x, and having two announcements could be confusing to new users who aren't sure which version to start using. We could issue an announcement that primarily mentions 1.6.1, and also mentions 1.5.2 second. I'm in agreement with Josh's statement about proceeding and just making 1.5.3 later (though I'd prefer focus switch to 1.6.x after 1.6.1 is released and only do critical fixes for 1.5.x). Yeah, that's fine. I don't really see anything new going into 1.5 (obvious, given how we do versioning), but I don't mind continuing to get things together if we have bug fixes for the 1.5 line.

Re: [VOTE] Apache Accumulo 1.5.2 RC1
Oh my, my apologies. I didn't even copy-paste that snippet, I just had an extreme brain fart. If there was any confusion about the ending date/time, let me know and I can re-roll. As far as the issues found, I'd prefer to get out 1.5.2 and consider 1.5.3, say, before the end of the year. We have a number of fixes that are already good for 1.5.2. I think we should get those out and we can improve the rest at our leisure. - Josh On 9/18/14, 6:41 PM, Christopher wrote: I think we agreed previously on the list that we aren't going to allow vote extensions. Re: [VOTE] Apache Accumulo 1.5.2 RC1
+1 Verified GPG signatures (those embedded in the RPMs included) and all hashes. Verified each jar is accompanied by a javadoc and source jar. Verified contents of jars don't contain classes from non-org/apache/accumulo dependencies. Verified all jars are sealed. Verified tag matches source tarball and the specified sha1. (don't forget to use --sign when creating final tag). Verified all build tests pass with -Dhadoop.profile=1 and -Dhadoop.profile=2 Note: built with OpenJDK 7, Maven 3.2.3, and CentOS 6.5 -- Christopher L Tubbs II http://gravatar.com/ctubbsii On Mon, Sep 15, 2014 at 1:15 PM, Eric Newton wrote: > +1 > I pulled the source, verified hashes and signature.
