Re: Getting started with contribution

2016-07-23 Thread Kenneth Knowles
Hi Minudika,

Happy to hear from you!

We have labels in JIRA that you can look at to find starter tasks that
interest you. The tags are "starter" and "newbie" and "easyfix". They all
mean the same thing.

Take a look and if you find something that sounds interesting, comment on
the ticket and we can give it to you.

Kenn

This thread made me realize we probably need an FAQ on the website with
this question in it. I've created a JIRA for taking that on.

Re: getting started?

2016-03-28 Thread Frances Perry
Here's the Beam jira:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/BEAM

If you want to dig into examples to learn the Beam model, I'd suggest
starting with these walkthroughs:

https://cloud.google.com/dataflow/examples/wordcount-example

https://cloud.google.com/dataflow/examples/gaming-example

(Currently they are hosted elsewhere and only describe executing with the
Cloud Dataflow runner, but we will be generalizing them and moving to the
Beam site soon! The corresponding source code is already available in the
Beam repo.)

Re: getting started?

2016-03-28 Thread Srikumar Chari
JB,

Thanks will review the samples - I am assuming they are under the git repo.

Regarding experience, have been working with Spark mostly, some Flink
experience and even less Akka streams. Applications are real time/low latency
evals/transformations and reporting.

Do you have a link to the Jira project?

Hi,

I am new to Apache beam and would like to get familiar with it.
I am going to try for the implementation of the feature for Apache Zeppelin
mentioned  in the Jirra ZEPPELIN-682
 .
For that I want to get familiar with Apache beam. Please give me some tips
to get started and familiar with beam.

Thanks and regards
