Re: [VPC RVR] - Refactor for Redundant Virtual Router Implementation
Thanks for sharing this Wilder. About the related PRs, we’re still in code freeze wrt 4.5.0 but we’ve still not cut the branch for it yet. Does it make sense to include pending PRs to master which are passing tests and have been reviewed? If not, should we cut the 4.5 branch soon so these PRs and other work can be contributed to master branch? Too bad they did not want to provide help/support for this one incident, which which they have come across already. To reply, visit: https://reviews.apache.org/r/26263/ --- (Updated Oct. 3, 2014, 8:54 a.m.) Review request for cloudstack, edison su and Min Chen. Bugs: CLOUDSTACK-7539 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-7539 Repository: cloudstack-git Description --- Root causes of CLOUDSTACK-7539 are below. a. createCacheObject() method lacks mutual exclusion. After calling this method, threads check cache existence but the procedure is not atomic. So, other threads may call this method and decide to create a cache in spite of cache copy being in progress. b. createCacheObject() method ignores states except READY when it checks cache existence. Then, it is considered cache doesn't exist in spite of cache copy being in progress. c. When multiple cache entries about a same image are in a database, threads may get a wrong cache entry because of incorrect search condition that randomly chooses one entry from entries that have same template id. As a result of this retrieval, reference counter of the cache probably go negative. (I'm not sure about this behavior but I suspect CloudStack behaves like this.) These behaviors make cache state incorrect and inconsistent. For fixing this bug, I modified cache creation behavior when no cache is on NFS Secondary Staging Store(SSS). As sequential deployment functions so far, I think parallel deployment works well when it is managed like sequential deployment. Fixed points are below. These are for cause a. and b., not including fix for cause c. 1. Protect critical section between cache search and allocation by lock. When management server threads reach createCacheObject() method, threads get lock at first and check cache existence. In case that no cache is on NFS SSS, one thread sends a request for creating cache. In other case, threads wait for completion of creating cache not to duplicate same image. 2. Add several condition check for cache state. If a thread is creating a cache of an image, other threads mustn't send no additional request for the same image. Therefore, threads have to consider whether a copy request should be issued by those state check. Results are below. - Succeed in deployment of two instances. - No database cache entries are duplicated. - No duplicated images are on NFS SSS. - Reference counter never goes to -1. Thanks Mike, I added the table successfully. And also thanks for the suggestion. I spent some time looking into what we need - we need to store some topology/tenant mapping info specific to our plugin for syncing purpose. Logically it really needs to be maintained in a separate table. Similar practice has been adopted by some other network-element plugins as well. Importing certificate to CS 4.3.1 using GUI There is a bug in ACS 4.3.1 GUI. The before mentioned process did not work with Firefox 32.0.2, while it worked on latest Chrome. Because the problem is on the browser side, it did not reach management server logs at all. I have done everything correct. Even a couple of times. ;-) Hopefully this mail will help someone in the future. I would also advise to update the documentation on the issue. Do you want me to open a bug report for this? I am a little reluctant to do so, because some of the bug reports i made previously just sit there for years to come. FYI also got contacted off the mailing list by Steve Roles from ShapeBlue who kindly offered to sell annual 24/7 support to help me sort this issue. Too bad they did not want to provide help/support for this one incident, which which they have come across already. They could get payed well for telling me to use another browser. :-) While i appreciate what ShapeBlue does for ACS, they could easily just have told us publicly on the mailing list to use a different browser. Many thanks to anyone else who actually tried to help on the issue. Realhostip.com migration is now officially complete. Regards, F. Re: how to add new data table to DB
I kind of agree with Mike. We shouldn¹t really be adding tables with plugins. If there is a need to do so then its a limitation with our plugin framework and should be enhanced accordingly. It would good if you could specify your use case and why it can't be fitted with existing schema. I spent some time looking into what we need - we need to store some topology/tenant mapping info specific to our plugin for syncing purpose. Logically it really needs to be maintained in a separate table. Similar practice has been adopted by some other network-element plugins as well. Hey Ian, So, I upgraded my devcloud4 to latest and rebuilt all the things. After a bunch of head-scratching and debugging, it turned out I had to run [vagrant@localhost ~]$ sudo /etc/init.d/iptables stop on the xenserver to allow the secondary storage VM to go out and reach the management server. Hi Leo, Just checking this from master with the same version of marvin. For whatever reason marvin doesn't seem to be setting the tags on the network interfaces. The following and deployDataCenter should be setting them: traffictypes: [ { xen: GUEST, typ: Guest }, { xen: MGMT, typ: Management }, { xen: PUBLIC, typ: Public } ], Assuming possible marvin issue or a change on the API side of things since i'm seeing the following in the logs: INFO [o.a.c.f.j.i.AsyncJobMonitor] (API-Job-Executor-2:ctx-7d1f3c4f job-2) Remove job-2 from job monitoring WARN [c.c.a.d.ParamGenericValidationWorker] (66988863@qtp-580960970-0:ctx-2907b805 ctx-4ac83e7b ctx-a48b5480) Received unknown parameters for command addTrafficType. Re: Cloudstack 4.5+ roadmap?
A good place would be to search the design documents for 4.5.0 and beyond; https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/4.5+Design+Documents Many of the design docs in above, such as docker as hypervisor and ovm3 support haven’t made into master/4.5 (since we’re in code freeze now), so those will come under 4.5+ roadmap. Other than that there is a general effort to refactor code, fix tests, coverity issues, introduciton of commit validation mechanisms (CI, Travis, Jenkins, Github PR and possibly other reviewing tools in future) and make the codebase more stable.
