Volunteers Wanted for the CloudStack Collaboration Conference 2024

2024-11-11 Thread Ivet Petrova
Hi All,

I am writing to ask for some help for the upcoming CloudStack Collaboration
Conference 2024. The event is next week in Madrid and will be attended by many
community members.
We will need some volunteers on place to help with random tasks:
- event registration
- booths setup
- assisting sponsors on place
- assembling of event branding and banners
- packing at the end of the event.

Whoever wants to help, please reach me out to discuss.

Hi Daan,

So far we have approx. 30 people from the CCC24 attendees who marked they will
participate. Is there anybody who wants to join remotely?
I am able to ensure an option for people who want to join remotely to
participate. Just need to know in advance.

Hello,

As part of the CloudStack Collaboration Conference 2024 in Madrid, we will have
a Hackathon Day on November 20th.
The Hackathon will start at 12 pm and will continue till 6 pm.
Although this will be a self-organisation in terms of agenda, I would like to
get some understanding on the number of people, who plan to participate in the
Hackathon.
Can you reply back if you plan to join the Hackathon?

I also did a shared file, to collect ideas and proposals on the hackathon in
advance:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W9QTQBhkChUNnA8a2O5Uu9SeZdIPoMsoEGVtF_baEIU/edit?usp=sharing

Whoever has ideas, please put them on the file. I plan to print them and put
them in the Hackathon space. Even if you do not plan to participate, I
encourage everyone to share ideas for collaboration.

Having CCC not only allow all of us to meet in person, attend talks, learn and

Organising such event is a costly thing - we need to pay for venue, for video

a lot of questions for free tickets and people really excited to join the
event. On the other hand, we have just a few inquiries for sponsorship.
Finding more sponsors is something really vital, so that we can have the event.
For this reason, I would ask for some community help - could you all evangelise
for the event internally in your companies and help me find more sponsors?

I am attaching here the event sponsorship prospectus.
I do not want to sound too harsh, but we need funding in order to have an
event. Otherwise, it will not be possible.

Change of Date: CloudStack EU User Group Day - Frankfurt

2024-06-25 Thread Ivet Petrova
Hello,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to inform you that the CloudStack European User Group event date
has been changed from September 12th to September 19th, 2024, moving it one
week later.

The reason for this change is due to a large fair taking place in Frankfurt,
Germany during the week of September 12th. This event has significantly limited
hotel availability and caused hotel prices to be extremely high.

To ensure a more comfortable and affordable experience for our attendees, we
have decided together with the local host proIO, to reschedule the event to
September 19th, 2024. We hope this advance notice allows for any necessary
adjustments, and we look forward to your continued participation.

Please note that your previously purchased ticket remains valid for the new
date, and no additional actions are required on your part.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to
contact me.

Those interested in submitting talks targeted to ACS do so by submitting them
to the "Runtime and cloud". However, I am speaking with the responsible for the

talks submitted. Currently, there are already 7 talks submitted to "Runtime and

CCC2024 - Exclusive In-Person Experience in 2024
This year's conference is breaking new ground by going exclusively in-person.
After careful consideration, collecting feedback from the community and
planning, this year we will offer to the community the opportunity to meet
face-to-face, fostering deeper connections and more meaningful interactions
than ever before.
We did our best to deliver the CloudStack Community to everybody interested
during the pandemic time for a few years. Now, we are focusing on growing the
community and giving a chance to all contributors, committers and people
interested into the project, to meet in-person and interact in a better way.

Re: New ACS Case Studies Welcome

2024-03-26 Thread Ivet Petrova
Hi all,

Great initiative Jamie! I really like to read more on how companies are using
CloudStack and what difference the open-source technology makes for them.
As Jamie shared, it is really important for our community to keep a constant
heartbeat on social media and show more users.

Hope some of you will help!

Best regards,

Hi everyone,

I wanted to reach out to share that the ACS project is always looking for new
case studies detailing different companies’ implementation of Apache
CloudStack. If you feel like your company would be interested in sharing their
implementation of ACS, then feel free to reach out to me directly on email.

It is important that our community shares these case studies, as it helps
promote and grow the project.

Once a case study is finished, it is published on the CloudStack blog and
shared on the projects social media channels. For reference, you can see
previous case studies here -

Hi all,

As part of the CloudStack Collaboration Conference 2024 we plan to organise a
hackathon. Can I get some community feedback how many people will be interested
to participate in a live hackathon, one-day on Nov 20th in Madrid?
I need to consider some event space for it, so will appreciate if people
interested can raise hands as soon as possible.

CloudStack Collaboration Conference 2024

2024-03-05 Thread Ivet Petrova
Hi all,

The CloudStack Collaboration Conference 2024 will happen in Nov - 20-22 in
Madrid, Spain.
With some community members we are now researching for the best venue for the
event.
Although we have a lot of time, we have started slowly the organisation.
There are a few things we need to decide as a community:

- the event platform - last 3 years we were using Hubilo, which was great.
However, the price they give me for this year for a single event is 8000 USD.
Last year we pay 3000, which was also crazy expensive.
As this is crazy amount of money, I would suggest we have this years event just
as a physical event and no live-streaming.
We will record the sessions and post them on our YouTube channel.
IMO the best would be to have physical event only, but I would like to get your
feedback and preferences also.

- event fee - last year some of the event participants shared that in their
opinion we shall charge for the event - sell tickets.
Of course we will have early bird discounts, free tickets for students,
committers, PMC members, option for the sponsors to provide free tickets to
people they would like to invite, etc.
But what would be a reasonable amount as a ticket fee according to you all?

I wanted to share these two important things with the community and start early
discussions on it.
Best regards,

Final Call for Speakers: Ceph and CloudStack Day

2024-01-12 Thread Ivet Petrova
Hi All,

I am writing with a final call for speakers for the Ceph and ACS Day in
Netherlands: https://forms.gle/AktkevWpFn2nvSMS9

The CFP closes at January 15th, so hurry up. We still have some slots.

I want to remind once again the broader community that the events are a vital
tool for us to:
- keep the community alive and engaged
- present success stories and inspire potential ACS users
- engage with other communities and spread the word for ACS
- help the project being adopted by new users

A talk will take some efforts from your side, but the whole project will
benefit! As an open-source project, ACS is free to use and everyone can get it
and benefit from it. But we all need to bring back to the project also.

Hi all,

Thanks for the good feedback and positive words.
I would suggest that if no-one has something against the new design, we start a
development of the new home page.
For the internal pages, which are mainly text, we can add simple headers and
footers and something lightweight.

I will wait till next Wednesday to see if someone wants to add something more.

Thank you Ivet and Rohit, this is looking great! Much better then we had.

I have no real comments not objections to do. It's a great improvement

Subject: [DISCUSS] New Design for the Apache CloudStack Website

Hello,

I would like to start a discussion on the design of the Apache CloudStack
Website and to propose a new design for it.

As we all know, the website has not been changed for years in terms of design
and information. The biggest issue we know we have is that the website is not
showing the full potential of CloudStack. In addition to it during discussions
with many community members, I have noted the following issues:
- the existing website design is old-school
- the current homepage does not collect enough information to show CloudStack's
strengths
- current website design is missing images from the ACS UI and cannot create a
feel for the product in the users
- the website has issues on a mobile device
- we lack any graphic and diagrams
- some important information like how to download is not very visible

I collected a lot of feedback during last months and want to propose a new up
to date design for the website, which is attached below. The new design will
bring:
- improved UX
- look and feel corresponding to the CloudStack's capabilities and strengths
- more graphical elements, diagrams
- better branding
- more important information, easily accessible for the potential users

I hope you will like the new design – all feedback welcome. Once we have the
design finalised, we will use Rohit’s proposal previously of a CMS, which is
easy to edit.

Hi Wido,

The link on the site is fixed.
As for the project website - it links on purpose to the Hubilo platform, so
that people can see a direct registration page and make it easier for them to
register.
As you mentioned there is not enough info there - can you let me know what
would you like to see there to make the experience better?

I see! The link now seems to be fine.

However, on CloudStackcollab.org<http://CloudStackcollab.org> the link is

"CCC 2023 will be taking place in the Holiday Inn/VOCO Paris, Porte de Clichy. "

This link points to:

Double the URL concatted.

- I have sent an email last week to the hotel to ask for some pricing/special
offer for our conference members. Will keep you posted as soon as I have
details.
- Good remark for the project website. I thought we posted there, will add the
info today.

I see it now! Shouldn't this link to https://www.cloudstackcollab.org/ ?

Because right now it goes to Hubilo directly and there isn't much information
there.

- We will add the train info also to the website official info for travelling
we plan to post. Megali from DIMSI’s team is helping us on these details.

Great! And indeed, from London you can very easily reach Paris via Eurostar. I
just booked my Thalys train tickets :-)

Hi Ivet,
Thanks for organizing this! I was just sharing this internally with our
colleagues throughout Europe and I noticed that the link to the hotel is
broken. The correct URL is:
https://www.ihg.com/voco/hotels/gb/en/clichy/parpc/hoteldetail
A few things in addition:
- Is there a deal with the hotel for a fixed price for rooms?
- I don't see this event mentioned at the CloudStack main website
- Do we have anybody local who can help with finding bars for drinks?
I'd also like to make a recommendation to everybody from Europe to consider
coming by train instead of flying. Paris is very well connected from Brussels
(BE), Aachen (DE), Cologne (DE) and Amsterdam (NL) and ofcourse other cities in
Paris.
'Gare du Nord' and 'Gare de Lyon' are two major train stations where high speed
trains terminate.
Check out Google Maps or Thalys/TGV to see if coming by train makes sense. I'll
be doing that for sure and will make sure all my other colleagues come by train
as well.

Hello all,

As Rohit already wrote, our community is working on refreshing the Apache
CloudStack website with a new design.
As part of the new home page, we want to position a few logos of companies
using Apache CloudStack.

So, can our community members help me by stating you give the permission of
using the logo and sending me some company logos?
If you think your company shall be showcased there, I am also keen to have a
discussion with your marketing teams for the logos. You can just introduce me
to the person responsible.

Will really appreciate your help on this. Presenting the logos of users on home
page is making the website much better in terms of the visitor’s perception for
the technology.

As part of the new home page, we want to position a few logos of companies
using Apache CloudStack.

Hi all,

Just a reminder here. Please, support the ACS project by allowing us to
showcase your logo on the new website.
This is working both ways:
- you support the project by showing that your company is using the technology
- would be a great chance to get more visibility for your company also

Kind regards,

Re: [DISCUSS] CloudStack Website build and modernisation

2023-05-02 Thread Ivet Petrova
Hi Rohit,

Thanks for doing the heavy lifting. Great that we have the most important
things migrated. Now it is time for some polishing on top according to me.
I would object migrating and launching the website and blog as it is now. The
thing which worries me is that it really looks like a PoC and not completed
work, which will be bad for our reputations. Plus it is obvious it is a new
website/CMS (it definitely does not look the same as the old one). So from
outside it looks like “CloudStack has a new website and it’s worse than their
old now, which has not been changed in the last 10 years”.

As an action plan I suggest we do the following:
- implement a new design on the home page - I can prepare few background images
+ icons + some additional info for 2-3 more sections
- consider the fonts of the whole website
- change the footer - it is huge now and on some pages t is 1/3 of the page.
- rearrange a bit some internal pages - the ones for features, so that it can
represent better the project capabilities.
- considering the new look, we would need to match the use cases pages to it.
Shall we do this together to discuss how to arrange them?
- can we align the logo of ACS in the menu on top and the content like shown in
the image below. We need to have all of the content on all pages aligned in the
same way?
[cid:88EA3183-D483-4305-AD40-6704074893F3]
- https://beautiful-pastelito-4eb422.netlify.app/who - this page has bugs on
top
- on the page:https://beautiful-pastelito-4eb422.netlify.app/features
The column on the right side is not needed, so we can remove it. Again we can
add some header banner, to look more organised. Please, provide the size needed.

[cid:8C53FDAF-36CC-4597-8907-D19D9C2C0FCC]

- We have a huge footer currently. Considering that most of the pages are
short in content, I would suggest we keep the existing footer content on the
old website, but just ad a dark background to it as you have done.
- As for the blog - this needs to be a single button in the main menu without
dropdown. When a user clicks it, he needs to be redirected to the main blog
page.
On the place of Recent Blogs, please put the blog categories:
[cid:1D57043F-4A93-4475-A901-B93A76788596]

These are the immediate changes I see now.
IMO we need to be careful what we launch and how it looks as this can affect
the overall perception for the project and its development.

Kind regards,

All,

The ASF infra has advised deprecating and removing Roller support by 31st May
2023, our project blog is based on Roller.

Since my previous mail, I have been reviewing alternatives and options that are
compliant with ASF policies and have looked at several other top-level Apache
projects on how they manage, maintain, and publish their websites and blogs.
For reference, some of that progress and options have been discussed at
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-24170

In order to have an ASF-compliant website and blog setup that would be more
inclusive for our non-technical contributors, I've set up a proof-of-concept
blog+website [1] using Docusauras (and configs from one of the ASF project
websites, treat all the content outside of the blog as placeholder pages or
lorem-ipsum) which is a static-site generator used by a dozen other Apache TLP
websites [0] such as Apisix, Pulsar etc.

This PoC has all most of our blog migrated (except the most 4-6 new ones), but
pending migration of website content; and is currently integrated with a
Netlify CMS which isn't as rich as WP but allows a committer/PMC to login via
Github and manage the website+blog using a rich-text markdown editor [1][2]
where editing/saving content created git commits pushed to Github. I'm also
looking at other headless git-based CMSs that we can use.

We may revisit any design/theme changes in the future, if there are no
objections as the first iteration I propose to migrate all our project website
content along with the Roller blog to this PoC and ask interested contributors
to review and collaborate in an on-going basis as we need to migrate the blog
by 31st May '23. I hope to update again regularly.

All,

In the past, we had moved away from JIRA and ReviewBoard to Github as it
provided a single platform for both the user and the dev community to

Off lately, several user-related discussions and questions that we would have

Apache CloudStack Yearly Survey - Please fill in!

2022-12-05 Thread Ivet Petrova
Hi all,

As it is December and the end of the year approaches, I want to remind again
for the CloudStack Yearly Survey: https://forms.gle/RojUoTq2rnsdvyN97
This survey is designed to collect feedback from CloudStack users about its
capabilities, features, use cases and roadmap. It targets to help the community
get better understanding of the CloudStack usage and improve the project even
more.

The results from the survey will be used so that we can prepare an Apache
CloudStack Yearly Report and show to the world how rapidly our community is
growing and why companies prefer CloudStack as a turnkey solution.
I will appreciate the help of you all and do not hesitate also to share the
survey with colleagues and on social media.

Kind regards,

Re: CloudStack Presented at Events

2022-11-21 Thread Ivet Petrova
Hi all,

Firstly I would like to thank to everyone who attended the Cloudstack
Collaboration Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria last week. You made a great event
and cannot wait to see you all again soon.

I am writing just to confirm that:
- I submitted the form for a stand at Fossdem
- our community confirmed the participation at CloudFest 2023

We still look for some funding for the CloudFest, so if there is a company
which would like to help, it will be great.

Kind regards,

- I did not manage to get a lot of feedback for the Fosdem, so I am proceeding
with applying for a table for the CloudStack project there. Again, I am looking
for volunteers to present the project there. + we will have some nice swags
after the CCC to bring. It will be great to get some visibility for CloudStack

Hello all,

I am sharing 2 upcoming events, which are quite big an interesting and I think
it worths for pour community to exhibit and to be presented there:
FOSDEM:
Fosdem 2023 is on 4-5 February in Brussels. It would be great if we can get a
stand for Apache CloudStack and some of the community to attend and hang out at
the stand.
I’m happy to do the application for a stand but first wanted to see who may be
able to come along and help out?
The CFP to propose Developer Rooms is also open – my thinking is that we don’t
try to submit a developer room (as they’re limited in number) but instead wait
to see what others submit – hopefully there will be a devroom on IaaS or
virtualisation where CloudStack talks could sit.
https://fosdem.org/2023/

FOSDEM seems like a good event, but I always have mixed feelings this being on
saturday and sunday. That makes it more difficult for people to join this event.

That said I would be willing to do a talk, I can drive there and back easily in
one day :-)

CloudFest:
Cloudfest is on 21-23 March and will happen in Europa Park, Germany. It is the
biggest get together in EU for cloud, hosting and MSP providers and usually
collects 3000-4000 people. Although in Europe, it is visited from big companies
from USA also.My idea for there is to be presented with a booth for which we
will need people to help to be presented there and talk with attendees + some
financial support from the community. The smallest booth is 12 000 EUR and I
will try to discount it a bit, but we will need some help from companies from
the community.
The main target is to attract new users of CloudStack from the cloud industry +
to engage more developers to contribute to the project.
For companies yes which want to sponsor the booth, this will be a great
visibility of their success stories of using CloudStack or building services on
top of it.

https://www.cloudfest.com/

I think that this would be a good event to be present at. In the past Citrix
was here with their CloudPlatform product.

The EUR 12k is a high fee and we might struggle to get this funding together,
but I do think we fit in here.

Wido

Will be awesome if we raise awareness and engagement around this
events. Please, ping me if you want to join/support/help/sponsor :)
Have a lovely week and Happy OctoberFest :)

Hi all,

As you know we organise the CloudStack Collab oration Conference in
November in Sofia, Bulgaria as a hybrid event.
As you can imagine, this requires enormous efforts - dealing with
speakers, sponsors, facility management, branding, attracting attendees,
online ads, website and much more.
The work on place during the event will also be a significant amount and I
need help.
At this stage I am searching for a volunteer/s to handle the registration
on place.
More details:
The registration will happen only on the first event day and will take
approx. 1 hour. During this period, the task is to find the badge for the
people arriving and to give it to them. We will have printed badges, which
everyone can wear.
I think we will need 2 people for this. And will be very happy if I can
find some volunteers :)

Kind regards,
