That's fine. I will set this bug to invalid as the bug is not related to
directory generator.

Rufio,
The bug is at a higher level than I first thought. You will see that the
directory generator always caches correctly when you use it in a pipeline with
aggregation-depth <= 1. Try applying the patch in bug 25887 and rebuild.

first transformed directory gen. is aggregated with a static file then with
another cocoon:/ . Both use cocoon:/

Joerg, the bug is purely related to the aggregation. The directory generator
works perfect as it is. I provided a fix in
http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=25887 , I ran some tests and
now at least below testcase works.

I only had the two mails of Jan Wielgus and 'hed' in mind, I didn't came across
the problem myself. In your thread I already wrote that this bug is really
strange and that the directory generator *should* work.

The dependency on aggregation makes it even stranger. I can imagine that there
is something wrong with caching and multi-level aggregation in general, but not
only with adding a file to a directory and directory generator's validity.

Rufio, do you use the directory generator in combination with cocoon:/ or simply
straightforward?

Jorg, are you sure that your testcase is still related to directory generator,
i.e. isn't it a general caching problem? This means modifying a file on higher
aggregation levels wouldn't invalidate the check too.

Joerg

Jörg, in <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> you've written that there is problem with
directory generator, nothing about aggregation

As for nested aggregations, I don't know cocoon code to well but how come nested
aggregations are special case?

Testcase :

Adding/removing/changing files is ok for "noaggregation" and
"aggregationlevel1", the cache gets invalidated properly

Nested aggregations however are not caching properly. I remember sinlge
aggregations not caching properly in 2.0.4, maybe the fix did not take into
account nested aggregations?

I'm currently looking at validatePipeline() in
AbstractCachingProcessingPipeline, but it's a bit of a beast so bear with me ;)

Note that the original problem occured when using *aggregated* pipelines. I
can't reproduce this for a non-aggregated directory generator, the bug must be
somewhere higher up IMHO. I'll do some digging and src stepping, i had similar
problems with caching of aggregated sources before (on 2.0.4).

AFAICS it should be the way you describe it: adding a new file changes the
directory's lastmodified timestamp and so invalidates the cache.

>From code POV: for both directories and files startNode() is called and from
there this.validity.addFile(path);.

But it's the second time that this problem is reported:

If you've added a file to the directory, directory's modification time should
change and this should invalidate cache entry. Can you verify that directory
generator's validity includes modification time of the directories?
