Just to clarify for anyone following this thread who isn't from Chicago:

Piece Pizza has amazing live band kareoke and somewhat-good-at-best pizza
and beer.

Pequod's is the spot for grade A Chicago Pizza.

I wouldn't say a non-commmitter can't do a release, it's perfectly doable
but he will need to have some help from a committer on things like
creating tags and/or publishing the release. In the past I have done a
release without being a comitter, it was much harder process, but was
doable and probably one of the steps towards becoming a committer.

add that key to my apache account. I am not a committer yet and don't have
Apache account, can I still sign it without an apache ID?

Looks like there is a bit more to it.

asf-auth template needs to be updated to give projects_role access to
the new directory.
This can be done by adding the new directory name and later dropping
the old one.

I don't yet know how to update projects-vm safely.

Re: PROPOSAL: Apache Roadshow - Chicago 2019

2018-04-25 Thread Kevin A. McGrail
I really love to see all these events and the interest in running them. We
have some ideas about "events in a box" just so people like you Trevor can
talk this ball and run with it.

If you are stepping up and saying "I want to make this happen" then you can
expect that I will support your JFDI initiative.

PROPOSAL: Apache Roadshow - Chicago 2019

2018-04-25 Thread Trevor Grant
Hey all,

Hanging out at the booth at GOTO Chicago, talking to Kanchana- we got to
kicking around an idea for doing an Apache Roadshow in Chicago for 2019.

There's a number of good reasons to do this- but the main ones are:
- There's an industrial balanced between FinTech, established large corps,
marketing, and startups. However, often these devs are unable to travel to
West Coast/East Coast for financial / time constraints. (Supports multiple
tracks).
- Chicago is an airline hub (direct flights on almost any airline from
almost anywhere).
- Venues are accessible.
- There's a lot of interest in ASF by evidence of strong meetup communities
around various Apache projects.
- Chicago has never had an Apache event! / :'(

Chicago is most beautiful in end of spring and mid fall. I know there's a
lot of talk around several other conferences, PLUS GOTO Chicago next year,
but we wanted to gauge how supportive everyone one might be of this idea.

If no one objects we'll put together a formal proposal.

Thanks!

Re: Talks Needed for Apache Track at OW2Con in Paris

2018-04-25 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Bertrand / Martin

No worries. I think we have a lot of conferences running quite closely
together, plus it’s around holiday times to so adding work commitments makes it
difficult. We found about getting a track at this event, a bit later than usual
so didn’t really have too much time to get people informed and things
organised.

Let's see if we can try to get a better view of these events we get invited to
provide tracks for, so that we have enough time to actively communicate and
plan our involvement.

Thanks
Sharan

Hello Sharan

I would have liked to participate especially since going to Paris would
have been easy for me, but unfortunately the timing is difficult for me,
because of rush at work. Hopefully we can try again next year?

Re: Talks Needed for Apache Track at OW2Con in Paris

2018-04-25 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

Another update. We’ve still only had one submission which unfortunately is
going to be withdrawn by the speaker because of the time needed to apply for a
visa in time to attend.

At this stage I think it's best if I tell the organsers to cancel our Apache
track because we don’t have any content for it, so that they can allocate it to
someone else.

Thanks
Sharan
