Re: ASF events: inquiry on requirements for speakers

2020-09-02 Thread Elena Sporrer
Hi Kevin,

Thanks a lot for your detailed answers on the public mailing list from 08/23,
really appreciate it!

We've been extensively using Apache Camel in different combinations (Talend,
HashiCorp, Red Hat) for over 10 years now. Since our company, Datagrate, is
focusing on application integration, API solution, and real-time integrations,
Apache Camel has always been a valuable framework that we leverage. We would
love to get more involved with the Apache Camel community, contribute our
knowledge and expertise. We though a potential knowledge-sharing session at one
your future events could be a good start.

Since we are also co-organizers of two User Groups (Florida Talend User Group
and HashiCorp User Group in Tampa), I do understand that the main focus for
speakers is on best practice sharing,
pros and cons of different solutions, etc. So the requirements are pretty clear
in this case.

As soon as we have some concrete ideas shaped up, I would like to reach out to
you to briefly consult prior to submitting a CFP. Hopefully the events will be
resumed very soon and we could discuss our potential collaboration for the
upcoming ASF events.

Thanks and have a great week!

Hi Elena,

You wrote your two emails to a public mailing list. You did get a response to
your first email. You can see that response in our public archives here:

Dear Apache Development Community Team,

I’ve checked your online resources and helpful tips with regards to upcoming
ASF events.

However, there are still a few questions which would be really helpful in order
for us to prepare for listing us as potential speakers:

  * What are you looking for when deciding on the speakers?
  * Where can I find a full list of requirements for topics submission,
format, etc.?
  * What is the timeline cycle for a speaker from the moment of applying to
getting approved, presenting, etc.?
  * Who do we submit our proposal to?

Is there anyone who I could perhaps call to get a bit more details?

Thanks and I would highly appreciate your response!

Thanks and best regards,

Elena

Re: ASF events: inquiry on requirements for speakers

2020-08-23 Thread Kevin A. McGrail
Hi Elena

   - What are you looking for when deciding on the speakers?

This will differ based on the event but in general what I look for is 3
things: information not advertisement, connection to the Apache Software
Foundation community, experience at speaking.

   - Where can I find a full list of requirements for topics submission,
   format, etc.?

At this time, there are no calls for presenters (CFPs) open to review.
Apachecon.com would be where you would find announcements for events and
their respective CFPs.

   - What is the timeline cycle for a speaker from the moment of applying
   to getting approved, presenting, etc.?

Depends on the CFP and the event. As an all volunteer led organization,
sometimes it can take a while but we appreciate all the speakers who do
apply! Right now, the pandemic is disrupting any concepts of planning so I
would also warn that who the heck knows for the next year?

   - Who do we submit our proposal to?

Usually there is a CFP for each event. The most recent one for
ApacheCon @HOME was done on jamhosted (https://acna2020.jamhosted.net/).
For the DC Roadshow, I used PaperCall.io (https://www.papercall.io/asf-dc20
).

Hope this helps. Is there a specific topic you are interested in
presenting about?

Regards,
KAM
