Welcome to the OpenOffice.org Documentation Project! We are always
looking for new contributors, and we have quite a variety of writing
tasks that need work.

The process varies a bit depending on whether you want to work on the
user guides (maintained in ODT format and exported to PDF and wiki
format) or other materials (including how-to's, tutorials, FAQs, and
documents for system admins, programmers and developers), many of which
are Wiki-based.

This (unfinished) doc is a good place to start for an overview of the
work on user guides.
Producing OpenOffice.org User Guides,
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Dashboard/Producing_User_Guides

You've already discovered this list, which is for discussions related to
project infrastructure and policy. We also have another list,
auth...@documentation.openoffice.org, where writers, editors, reviewers,
and others discuss documents they are working on. We also keep some of
our team information (like who is working on what) on the Wiki.
Therefore we recommend that you set up an account on the Wiki as well,
if you haven't already.

I am Greek so my primary focus is to help the documentation in Greek
language.
That doesn't mean that I can not help with English documentation. My English
writing skills are very good.

You might also be interested in the Greek OOo Authors effort.

Wow, you have been using OOo for a long time :-) That kind of
experience is very valuable.

Feel free to discuss your ideas and thoughts here on the mailing list.

If you have a Wiki ID, then getting started is pretty easy. The simple
things you may not think help actually are a huge help... like a fresh
pair of eyes looking over the docs and spotting those ever present
typos. Since it's all Wiki based, you can step in and make a quick edit.

If you need any guidance with using the Wiki, then just ask - we will
try our best to help.

If you have ideas on how to improve the docs on the Wiki, then also
speak up. You can set up test pages (sandbox pages) on the Wiki and try
out a few ideas too - we all do that from time to time. Test pages can
be deleted if necessary (that reminds me I need to look over some of TJs
comments again).

Right now, the key areas for review are the general user guides for
OOo3.x... a good place to get started.

So, welcome to the team!

What would be a big help would be to dive in and grab Chapter 3 from
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=52695 and work on that.
If you could update the screenshots this would be a bonus. We are
keeping the old style icons until the new ones are localized for all
languages.
