Try hitting this link: 
http://flex.apache.org/installer/sdk-installer-config-4.0.xml
Search for mac.29.0 or win.29.0 and see if the URLs are set to https.  If not, 
refresh the browser, clear the cache and try again.  I see https there.

Then try again and provide the entire console output if there is an error.

Installed JAVA + ANT (first time).

Tried ANT (first time) with AIR 30.0 but failed.
Next tried with AIR 29.0 (for later overlap to AIR 30.0).

First I got a warning about: Unable to locate tools.jar. Expected to find it
in c:\Program Files\java\jre1.8.0_171\lib\tools.jar but the build continued.

I got the questions step by step and at the very end I got:

I just pushed changes that replace the as3crypto TLSSocket with one that uses 
AIR 30 SecureSocket.  This seems to fix the installer and should allow the 
installer to fetch over HTTPS from other servers as earlier TLS versions go 
away.

I asked my colleagues on the AIR team and they say that SecureSocket is not 
dependent on IE settings so it shouldn't return us to having those problems 
again.

Can another committer build from sources and see if it works for them?  You 
will need to use AIR30.  You can use AIR29 if you update the -app.xml, but 
TLS1.2 is not supported before AIR29.

Let us know if it works.

If some of you have time to verify that Go ahead, but if not my proposition
is to hardcode that url, for SDK which is greater than 4.16.1 and we should
be good yes ? I don't see changes in that file for each release.

As for your question Alex. Installer is simply have timeout if we use https
on distribution site and our website, so that could help if someone could
build an example to infra. (I won't spent on that time for sure). Probably
it is an issue on apacher.org website as you assuming.

The second solution is use native code to load that file, because it's also
working. I meant to use super.load instead the custom implementation [1] in
case of that one file. If I remember correctly it was also working. -
That's a hack, but we could back on track with installer.

It's just taking too long, installer is broken for couple of weeks already.

But what code knew to start looking at the website instead of dist?  Didn't

Well if someone changed the paths in those files, our users could unwitting be 
made to download walware or other stuff. Risk is probably low but I have no 
details on the server this file is going on, for instance it it a dedicated 
server or one that contains shared hosts for instance. What other services are 
running on this server? How is the file uloaded/updated on that server? What 
security is in place to stop others modifying that file? If it located in 
Poland is that going to cause performance issues for people outside of Europe? 
What happens if the server falls overs can someone on the PMC restart it? Will 
the rest of the PMC have access to this server? Might be best to answer on the 
private list if you don’t want details about your server made public. 

Perhaps a better solution would be to host them on the Apache Flex website as 
currently we do for [1] which the installer gets. Is it too hard to have a 
http://flex.apache.org/installer/XXX/sdk-installer-config-4.0.xml, were XXX if

Hit this URL:  http://flex.apache.org/installer/sdk-installer-config-4.0.xml

Search for:  air.sdk.version.windows.29.0 and air.sdk.version.mac.29.0
The URLs should be HTTPS and not HTTP
If they are still HTTP, try refreshing the browser or clearing its cache.

Then try again with "ant -f installer.xml" and if it still fails, post a link 
to the entire log.

I'm getting one request to url -> "
http://flex.apache.org/single-mirror-url--xml.cgi; when installer is
started and it uses  MirrorURLUtil - fetchMirrorFromCGIResult. In the
result I'm getting there url -> "http://ftp.ps.pl/pub/apache/;

Next I'm clicking "Next" and ApacheURLLoader is being called - method load
with url -> "
https://www.apache.org/dist/flex/4.16.1/binaries/apache-flex-sdk-installer-config.xml;
- Then I'm getting timeout, no involvement of method  MirrorURLUtil -
fetchMirrorFromCGIResult.

I'm not sure what I have seen in the first try, now I'm having exactly
above scenario all the time. No scenario which you have pointed Justin
anymore.

Ok that's something else. I'm getting timeout as it was before on https
connection with ->
https://www.apache.org/dist/flex/4.16.1/binaries/apache-flex-sdk-installer-config.xml.

It looks like it is still https issue. 

What's interesting is that when we call method load in ApacheURLLoader the
first think which we get here [1] is connection close. Later timeout is
coming.


 

And Again if I use native URLLoader method for that url it's working. 

Justin is suggested to contact infra, but what do I tell them actually ?

Yes you’re seeing what I saw, that’s the full HTML rather than XML result 
returned. I’m guessing It may be inconsistent depending on where you are. I’ve 
not looked at the code in detail but I'm wondering does it make two requests to 
that URL? 

If it makes two requests A and B and A returns HTML and B returns XML it may be 
that we may have a timing issue.

For fast connections A gets results right away and then B get results straight 
away, but for slower requests A result could occur after B results return.

In one case:
Call A is made
Call A returns a lot of HTML
Call B is made
Call B returns short XML

In the other case:
Cal A is made
Call B is made
Call B returns short XML
Call A returns a lot of HTML

No idea if this is the case but just suggesting it as a possible explanation 
that seems to fit what is going on.

plain text instead of html.  Do a "View Source" on the page and you should see 
it is plain text which should be what we want.

How does this help: Info from different sides of the world might be
useful in debugging services :)
What to do: Not sure what would be the best option here :( Since
flex.a.o is accessible for users who are using Flex, maybe it worth to
host installer config at flex.a.o? (just an idea)

PS Reports from Russia might not be very useful due to we have lots of

If I run the installer in the debugger it also returns the whole page and the 
mirror URL ends up as that html content as well with a few letters off the

Hi Justin,

I think you've proposed multiple causes.  One is that the cgi isn't returning 
the right thing, the other was that fetching apache-flex-installer-config.xml 
over https was failing.  Which one or both are you claiming to be the issue?

If I just use my browser to hit: 
http://flex.apache.org/single-mirror-url--xml.cgi
I am getting the expected single line back.  Can some other folks hit this link 
above?  You should get a single line of text, not even an HTML page.   Same 
with using CURL.  I only get one line of text back.

tested by briefly putting up a hard coded response in replace of that cgi 
script to see if the current installer works with that.

And it could be failing for one of two reasons,  Which I don't think has been 
100% determined,
1. The page structure has changed and it failing to correctly parse the mirror 
URL out of the page so the URL it manufactures times out
2. It's a https issues

The first option seem more likely to me. Has anyone looked at that?

The http call to the  single mirror CGI script to get the mirror information 
works. It’s the https call to the mirror to get the XML installer config file 
that is failing.

I don’t believe this is only an AIR HTTPS issue.

Try:

program is required to use a mirror to download the latest release (4.16.1) per 
Apache policy.  The installer is failing to fetch the mirror information over 
HTTPS.  We have asked for help from the original developer of our HTTPS 
handling code.

So, as an alternative until that is fixed, I have suggested folks use Apache 
Ant.  One user wrote in to say that the Adobe AIR SDK would not download 
because Ant would not allow a redirection from HTTP to HTTPS, so I just updated 
the AIR 29 URL we download from to HTTPS so there won't be a switch.  So folks 
who have tried Apache Ant to install Apache Flex should try again.

But the installer program will not work for Flex 4.16.1 until we find a way to 
host the release some place without requiring a mirror lookup.  I think 
Justin's original reply on this thread was not quite right and led to confusion.

So, folks wanting to install Apache Flex 4.16.1 should use Ant for now.  But I 
think I've made other changes today so that you can use the installer program 
to Install 4.16.0 and earlier, but you may not be successful using the 
installer program with these older releases and Adobe AIR 28 and 29.  You may 
need to use older releases and older Adobe AIR SDKs.

Hopefully we will get this straightened out soon.

The old XML config file is probably cached and you’re probably not seeing the 
new version.

will still having the same problem. Currently I am using 4.16.1 AIR28 for
my application, I can still remain using this version of SDK for awhile, no
hurry to upgrade, you guys can take your time to resolve the issue.

I tried the older version 3.3 and it das the same issue times out. I can't
see what it is trying to access.

Hi Joel,

I thought there was a way to run the old version even though you were prompted 
to upgrade.

4.16.0 was also using the mirrors.  I just fixed that but if it still doesn't 
work for you the config file might be cached.  4.15.0 installed for me.
