According to development those Style families are not yet
localizeable ... we

need an RFE for this
who do you speak to within Development ? For me this simply sounds
like an bug without the need for a RFE.

MIB , CD , AS they said RFE!
From the l10n perspective, I do agree with Martin H. that this is a bug
not a (nice-to-have) feature. I commented the issue and set target to 3.0.

2008-04-24 Thread Rafaella Braconi

Hi Thorsten,

We talked very often about this to get in more buffer for QA and for the
processes after Feature/Code freeze. In general the teams handle their
handover dates in person and it works well. The problem comes up, when
a high prioritized feature came in _too_ late.
And I am taking exactly about this case. When a high prioritized feature
comes in _too_ late, IMHO there anre only 2 possibilities: block it or
accept only under the condition that the whole release schedule gets
postponed. If the experience proves that in kost of cases the
integration takes longer than estimated, then the high prioritized
feature can only be accepted under the above condition.

Just my 2 cents

Re: [l10n-dev] Request for more space in dialogs

2008-04-24 Thread Rafaella Braconi

Hi Sophie,

So better put a question mark in it and a 'Guess what?' in the tip ;)
I'm kidding too, but as said Andre, it doesn't help to have a button
you can't understand.

I know it's difficult, but may be the solution for us would be to work
with the English linguistic team to find a formulation suitable for
the more language as possible? or is it another utopia?

I am glad you brought up this very well known and old issue :-) .

Every time the correct translated string has not enough space in a
dialog this is CLEARLY a BUG. This is in fact bad user interface design.

Asking the localizers to make the translated strings shorter is - in
most cases - not an option. Working with the user designer team? IMHO, I
think that filing issues, for every dialog in which we do not have
enough space, would remind them that the user interface in most case is
not only English ;-) and that in case they want to see how much space
for the translation is needed they should ask at least the Brazilian or
French team to check if they have enough space for their translation :-) .

Kind Regards,
Rafaella

Maybe I misunderstood something but I've heard that automatically
resizing dialogs are work in progress?

Re: [l10n-dev] Request for more space in dialogs

2008-04-24 Thread Andras Timar
Meanwhile we are waiting for automatically resizing dialogs... Why are
dialog coordinates not localizable? There is an unused 'width' field in
SDF file format. Currently truncations can be fixed only by editing the
binary .res files without disturbing the other languages.

Best regards,
Andras
