You will need to create a locale for OpenOffice.org to have some basic
 information about the language.

That is not necessary to have only a functional dictionary. See
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Adding_a_new_language_or_locale
Of course having locale data available is nice.

There is currently a project under way
to do this for some African languages here:

 http://www.it46.se/afrigen/

The general generator is available at http://www.it46.se/localegen/

[l10n-dev] Re: Relief at the Galician Team (OpenOffice.org)

2010-03-01 Thread Localiza
Thanx Suso for introduce me

Hi at all,

I'm Antón Méixome, member of the Galician community of openOffice and
translator of free software since 10 years, in a very distinct kind of
projects (lately Gnome, Ubuntu, CMS, TTK, etc). My skills are fundamentally
iberian (hispanic) linguistic, without informatic academic formation but in
the last 2 years I was contributing, translating, proofreading, lingüístic
stylism in the openoffice's localization (so with Javier Rial - CESGA - and
also with Suso Baleato - Mancomun.org - leaders of coordination). I am
registered in the main community's lists and have username (meixome).

I assume the coordination of the project with the intend for does it as
stable as possible the team sustaining the performed work and trying extend
the translator's and users community. I have, in addition to mine own
experience, the support of the main community of galician free software
translators who have encouraged me to assume this job: Proxecto Trasno (
http://www.trasno.net with more of 10 years of work on location and that has
been constituted as legal association recently). At least, from 2004 the
Galician community comes sustaining without interruption and with successive
reliefs to location of openoffice it (from the version 1.1.1). Certainly we
are a small but persistent community.

I will need, of course, the highest understanding and support in the aspects
of engineering, especially regarding the processes of TCM and QA, patches,
etc.

In fact, I need indications about achieve accounts and necessary permissions
to realize the work of coordination (project owner, TCM, QAtrack, ...) So as
to be prepared the next version 3.3 that is in way.
I will made it the best I can.

Antón Méixome

 Hi all,

Antón will relieve me at the Galician l10n team as coordinator:

 http://gl.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=devmsgNo=58

I'm very proud for having had the opportunity to contribute to the
OpenOffice.org project, coordinating the Galician language l10n team.

The best of my experience here was feeling the personal engagement between
both Sun and volunteerism individuals. That's a very advisable example for
all the Open Source world, including the FSF subset. So I'd like to express
my personal gratitude to all d...@l10n people, with a special remark to:

 - Sophie Gautier
 - Rafaella Braconi
 - the German Team. Impressive!!

If I'll need to make a suggestion: updating and normalizing the l10n doc
could be a good idea in order to improve the productivity of newcomers,
specially at the QA side of the life (o:

@Antón: just don't forget the QA mantra ;)

 Best regards,
