Frank,
Can you describe the reason?

Because a product can't be distributed in France if its documentation
is not translated in French. I don't have the law article at hand, but
without this translation, OOo can be rejected during a bid invitation
for example. However, I don't know if it's France specific.

Sophie? So you think this is the reason why Frank effectively told "no
need to translate README files AT ALL, only for French"?

No that was the explanation for French, not for not translating the
readme files.

I think this is not the reason and if it is, it is very stupid ;-)

May be Franck said that there is no legal obligation other than in
France, but yes [even if nobody read README file and it should be
renamed READMENOT imho ;-)] it contains very important information and
must be translated, of course.

Kind regards
Sophie

This may be the reason why readlicense_oo should be translated, but not the
reason why it shouldn't be translated, IMHO.

readlicense_oo module name is misleading a bit, at moment it contains
only README, which is an important document for enduser (contains system
requirements and many other useful things to know).
Bad thingie is that license itself is not translatable in oo.o (at least
in common way) and this really violates laws not only in France. (Here
too by the way, but no software seller cares...)
Anyways there is no reason not to translate README-file (even never
heard of that, we translated it since it became available).

It makes sense iff Frank was referring to the group of Sun languages...

Afair, README as well as testtool have been translated. SO, I'd rather
leave it to the translation teams to pick those files or not.

It makes sense to let each team decide.
Before uploading the modules to Pootle, let me confirm once again with
Frank Mau. And we may need to ask him to extract the existing
translations of the modules from DB as they were not provided with
initial content uploaded to Pootle.

Hi Frank,
Can you please confirm if below modules need to be translated?
basic/source/app
readlicense_oo

Thanks,
Aijin

That's a good example what will happen after separating pootle list.
Looks like I have to take my vote back. ;)

Why should Pootle users ignore them?
