That's not the issue. Here's the process string from windows using the command:
{code:xml}

> Solr on windows does not currently have a script to kill the process on OOM

> The idea is to write a batch script that works like the OOM kill script for
> Linux and kills the solr process on OOM errors while creating an OOM log file
> like the one on Linux systems.

[jira] [Updated] (SOLR-8208) DocTransformer executes sub-queries

2016-04-02 Thread Mikhail Khludnev (JIRA)

 [
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-8208?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:all-tabpanel
 ]

Mikhail Khludnev updated SOLR-8208:
---
Attachment: SOLR-8208.patch

attaching an implementation with multivalue fix and tests.

Reveal a potential usability usage: Implicit subquery params (doc values) are
not logged:
{noformat}

params={q=name_s:dave=6=true=*,depts:[subquery+prefix%3Dsubq1+separator%3D"+"]=3=true=xml=text_t={!lucene+df%3Ddept_id_s+v%3D$subq1.row.dept_ss_dv}}
 hits=3 status=0 QTime=2

params={rows=6=true=text_t={!lucene+df%3Ddept_id_s+v%3D$subq1.row.dept_ss_dv}}
 hits=6 status=0 QTime=4

params={rows=6=true=text_t={!lucene+df%3Ddept_id_s+v%3D$subq1.row.dept_ss_dv}}
 hits=6 status=0 QTime=7

params={rows=6=true=text_t={!lucene+df%3Ddept_id_s+v%3D$subq1.row.dept_ss_dv}}
 hits=6 status=0 QTime=10
{noformat}
the first line is a main query, and the latter are subqueries. here you see
that and actual value of {{subq1.row.dept_ss_dv}} are not logged, but it might
by deadly needful.

What's you prefer tweak params somehow for logging, or {{allow
debugQuery=true}} for subqueries, and inject it into main query debug?

> The initial idea was to return "from" side of query time join via
> doctransformer. I suppose it isn't query-time join specific, thus let to
> specify any query and parameters for them, let's call them sub-query. But it
> might be problematic to escape subquery parameters, including local ones,
> e.g. what if subquery needs to specify own doctransformer in =\[..\] ?
> I suppose we can allow to specify subquery parameter prefix:
> {code}
> ..=id,[subquery paramPrefix=subq1.
> fromIndex=othercore],score,..={!term f=child_id
> v=$subq1.row.id}=3=price&..
> {code}
> * {{paramPrefix=subq1.}} shifts parameters for subquery: {{subq1.q}} turns to
> {{q}} for subquery, {{subq1.rows}} to {{rows}}
> * {{fromIndex=othercore}} optional param allows to run subquery on other
> core, like it works on query time join
> * the itchiest one is to reference to document field from subquery
> parameters, here I propose to use local param {{v}} and param deference
> {{v=$param}} thus every document field implicitly introduces parameter for
> subquery $\{paramPrefix\}row.$\{fieldName\}, thus above subquery is
> q=child_id:, presumably we can drop "row." in the middle
> (reducing to v=$subq1.id), until someone deal with {{rows}}, {{sort}} fields.
> * \[subquery\], or \[query\], or ?
> Caveat: it should be a way slow; it handles only search result page, not
> entire result set.

bq. Dawid Weiss, Uwe Schindler - any idea what i did to causes this weird
AccessControlException in TestSimpleExplanations?

The problem is caused by the static leak detector (same issue like the fix I
posted to Solr). The leak detetctor measures static fields and their heap
usage. Unfortunately this fails for non-public classes (e.g. implementations of
Path). So be sure to null all static fields on afterClass().

In Java 9 this fails more often, so be sure to always null out static non-final
fields that point to "more complex" and internal Java objects.

Attachment: LUCENE-7132.patch

W/o really having firm idea what's going on here i spent some time reviewing
the tests that Ahmet posted, and then started poking at things with a stick --
mainly to see if I could figure out the missing piece of the puzzle that caused
things to fail in "testRajeshData()" but not in any of our existing randomized
tests.

I feel down the rabit hole a bit looking into this, and I still have no
concrete idea what the underlying problem is, but i have a few uneducated
guesses...

* the problem seems to only affect BooleanQueries where a "coord" factor is
involved
** adding {{setDisableCoord(true)}} on the queries in testRajeshData seems to
make all seeds pass
** so obviously reproducing this bug requires a Similarity that has a
non-trivila coord function (like ClassicSimilaity in Ahmet's TestExplain)
* the _score_ values are inconsistent between randomized runs of
testRajeshData, while the _explain_ values stay the same
** even though the test data & similarity are fixed, testRajeshData pass fine
with some seeds, while others fail
** when testRajeshData does fail, it's because the scores have changed compared
to the values produced in previous passing runs
** {color:red}best guess: something about the MergePolicy and the way docs are
co-located in diff segments is triggering a pathological code path in some
BooleanWeight/Scorer optimization code?{color}
*** perhaps because a segment may not even contain one of the optional terms,
so it's Scorer is null?
** if it's not the MergePolicy, then perhaps something about the codec used and
the term stats?

Things i've added/revised in this new version of the patch...

* added some more asserts to TestExplain.testRajeshData to help demonstrate
that it's the score that has changed between successful vs failing runs
* fixed a bug in TestExplain.testExplainScoreEquality that was causing false
failures
** {{randomSimpleString(random())}} can produce the empty string, which was
causing the test to not match the numDocs it was expecting since a whitespace
based analyzer is being used
** NOTE: these false failures where the only case i've ever seen
TestExplain.testExplainScoreEquality fail
* added a TestBaseExplanationTestCase to the test-framework
** I had some initial concerns that maybe some old changes/refactorings to
BaseExplanationTestCase had completely eliminated the checks that were suppose
to be done in that test, so i added this class to ensure it would fail as
expected when an Explanation didn't match scores
* added more coord randomization in TestSimpleExplanations
** even w/these changes, i've never seen these tests fail
* added a new TestSimpleExplanationsWithHeavyIDF
** this was one of the first things i tried, based on Ahmet's concerns about
{{IDFStats.normalize}}
** since TestExplain.testRajeshData was failing so consistently, but we've
never seen failures like this from any of of the existing
BaseExplanationTestCase, i speculated that maybe IDF stats or index size were a
big factor, and tried to bang out a subclass of TestSimpleExplanations that
added a lot of (ignored) docs with the same terms to make the doc freq stats
more interesting for the terms being searched on
** i've never seen this test fail
** some refactoring in BaseExplanationTestCase was needed to write this test

As things stand now with the current patch, here are some test seeds for
TestExplain that pass for me...

I committed a fix for 3 tests that now leaked SolrClients in static fields,
which made the test leak detector angry on Java 9's module system (it tried to
measure private, internal classes). If this is backported, please also backport

Shawn Heisey commented on SOLR-8803:

[~binoydala...@gmail.com], can you show us your entire Solr commandline? Any
chance it might be similar to SOLR-8145? I did take a look at your patch for
the solr.cmd script, which looked like it put the argument in the right place.

I also wonder if I broke it when I suggested that you change .bat to .cmd on
the script.

> The idea is to write a batch script that works like the OOM kill script for
> Linux and kills the solr process on OOM errors while creating an OOM log file
> like the one on Linux systems.

[jira] [Updated] (LUCENE-7157) Geo3DPoint implementation should pay attention to the ordering of lat/lon points

2016-04-02 Thread Karl Wright (JIRA)

 [

 ]

Karl Wright updated LUCENE-7157:

Attachment: LUCENE-7157.diff

The attached patch has a significant reworking of polygon construction. It
passes basic tests. However, it failed beasting once, which I need to look
into, plus there's a disabled test that exercises detection of
clockwise/counterclockwise.

Attaching mostly so I don't inadvertantly lose stuff, since my git abilities
are still limited...

> The LatLonPoint API implementation pays attention to the order of the points;
> "clockwise" means one side of the polygon boundary, and "counterclockwise"
> means the complement. We need to use that in Geo3DPoint and convert into
> whatever the underlying GeoPolygonFactory method requires.

Re: [VOTE] Release Lucene/Solr 6.0.0 RC1

2016-04-02 Thread Erick Erickson
Nick:

Sure. Here's my current take. When it's done, I'll put it on the
trunk, 6x and 6.0. Then it'll be picked up on whatever the next
release, be it 6.0, 6.0.1 or even 6.1. It doesn't merit a respin on
its own IMO...

Thanks!
Erick

You know what version that was?
According to 8539 this issue started showing after the jetty upgrade to 9.2.3 I
think.
I'm going to try this with the last version on 4.x and with the trunk branch to
see if I face the same issue

I meant that I got the flago working with Solr on a OOM. At least at some point

> Currently a few remaining tests (around newRectQuery) are lenient and
> quantize the query rectangles. This is masking several bugs:
> 1. Both LatLonPoint and GeoPointField's bbox queries quantize their endpoints
> incorrectly at query-time, which can e.g. cause it to bring in false positive
> results
> 2. Tests have always been lenient about this (either by using epsilons or
> incorrectly quantizing the query rectangles in tests), hiding the above.
> 3. Both LatLonPoint and GeoPointField still have rounding issues at
> quantization. For very special values they do not always consistently round
> in one direction.
> 4. Random encoding tests will never find the above issue, hiding it. This is

I think this has something to do with this:
[SOLR-8539|https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-8539]
I haven't gone through the whole log but Solr does seem to be swallowing up
OOMs because of some sort of a Jetty issue. Will take a better look at this in
some time.

That is true. The flag does work. I've already tested it using a program
(separate from Solr) that throws an OOM and calls the script to kill solr using
the flag, where it works fine. I just can't seem to get Solr itself to OOM
properly to test if it works on Solr itself.

For the record, while looking into SOLR-8145 (when I did not know that jira
existed), I saw -XX:OnOutOfMemoryError flag does work on Windows, I saw it
working at least once.

[jira] [Commented] (LUCENE-7166) fix quantization bugs in LatLonPoint and GeoPointField, remove test leniency

This is
> because you need very special double values that the current stuff (e.g.
> {{-180 + 360.0 * random().nextDouble()}} will never find!).

Tried it. Script wasn't called at all.
Any ideas?

> Solr on windows does not currently have a script to kill the process on OOM
> errors.
> The idea is to write a batch script that works like the OOM kill script for
> Linux and kills the solr process on OOM errors while creating an OOM log file
> like the one on Linux systems.

[jira] [Commented] (LUCENE-7157) Geo3DPoint implementation should pay attention to the ordering of lat/lon points

Karl: i also would like to know if we solve your problem by refining docs to
say: outer rings should be clockwise, holes counter-clockwise. It would be
great to enforce this as well, if we had a simple static method that could
check a Polygon[] and ensure everything is well-formed. We would have to fix
some tests.

Keep in mind i didn't introduce the docs that say either order is acceptable. I
merely moved methods around, and either works at the moment because of that.

> The LatLonPoint API implementation pays attention to the order of the points;
> "clockwise" means one side of the polygon boundary, and "counterclockwise"
> means the complement. We need to use that in Geo3DPoint and convert into
> whatever the underlying GeoPolygonFactory method requires.
