Can you give me a link (send it directly to me if you prefer) and I'll check it out... Usually the answer is "Yes, it is OK", but occasionally we find one who is NOT OK. When that happens, we can use eBay's system to stop them unless and until they do the right thing... > > > > peteD -- Alex Fisher Co-Lead, CD-ROM Project OpenOffice.org Marketing Community Contact Australia/New Zealand http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/ - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Marketing] Distribution
I was perusing eBay and noticed a seller auctioning Open Office 1.1 for $ 4.95 (minimum opening bid) + Shipping & Handling of $ 6.85 (anywhere in US) ! That means he gets $ 11.80 for each CD copy he produces and his profit must be about $9.00+ I asked (emailed) him about this since I know Open Office 1.1 is available as a free download and he indicated he was a "Community Distributor". How can I become a "Community Distributor" and make $ 9.00+ on each copy I distribute. Buy the way - He is using the Open Office Box picture and trademark . . . Is all this OK ?? peteD

I don’t have the know-how to do this, but I think it would be really cool if someone made a theme for Thunderbird that would imitate at least the look, if not the feel, of OpenOffice.org 2.0. This way people could identify the OpenOffice.org and Thunderbird applications as tools that can/should be used to compliment one another, as an alternative to Microsoft Outlook and the rest of the MS Office applications. Thunderbird extensions could be written in order to interact and integrate with OpenOffice.org’s Writer and other apps, if necessary. Additionally, plug-ins or new features for OpenOffice.org applications could be written, if necessary, to interact and integrate with Thunderbird. (An OpenOffice.org theme for Mozilla Firefox would be nice, too.) I think if both OpenOffice.org and Mozilla "teamed up" to promote/market the use of each other’s products together, they would convince more people to leave MS Office/Internet Explorer. I would be interested to know what you think about this. Thanks, I think this is already going on, isn't it? [Marketing] Questions OO
Paris, the 6 March 2005 Dear Sir or Madame, I am a journalist currently working as freelance on a story devoted to free software, Open Office in particular. Would you please be kind to devote a few minutes of your time to fill the table below in order to deliver the truthful and complete information to our readers: *Licence* *Free (Libre)* *Open Source* *Copy left* *GPL* *LGPL* *SISSL* Obligation to render free all source code modifications The program may be mixed with a software that is not free The modifications may be kept secret and not communicated to the author Anyone can place the program under a new license The license encloses particular privileges for the copyright owner, which can be applied to your modifications. The owner is obliged to render available the modified source codes' totality *I have one more questions*: As I understand, Open Office is under two licenses (*GPL and SISSL*). If the source code has been modified, is it possible for those who executed some modifications and wish to distribute this modified product, to use just one license afterward (*SISSL*)*. * Many thanks in advance for your help. Yours faithfully, Nathalie Terekhova.

[Marketing] PC World preview: base module
Hi Here's an excerpt of a PC World preview of the OOo 2.0 beta with a critique of the new base component: "OpenOffice.org's developers seem to have tried to make Base look and act as much like Access as possible. That's been the group's MO from the beginning, and it makes sense--the easiest way to convert millions of Office users to the open-source alternative is to make the transition as simple as possible. The problem with making an app that's just like Access, though, is that Access completely mystifies many who attempt to use it. And many of those users who do master it don't like it much. It might have been a better plan to create a database app more like FileMaker Pro; that is, one that's not at all like Access but much easier to use."
