Re: [Marketing] PlexNex: Microsoft's File Format Lock Slackens

Hello Konrad,
your experience is interesting indeed. I know of some unversity in
Poland who advertises FOSS, but I didn't know that the market itself
was so reluctant to the idea. The idea of security and caution is an
interesting one however...
Happy New Year,
Charles.

the guests of my meeting that OpenOffice.org is very safe, because it
asks for every document's script to run or not, and if somebody is
suspicious about the script, he can always check the document in any
text editor, because it's an Open Document compressed in a zip format :)
They enjoyed the idea. Really.

For situations like that it, I think that some official printed CDs with
nice 4-color sleeves would help. That gives them tangible, if irrelevant,
evidence of the authenticity of the software.

In a similar context, I've used the Ubunto CDs which are nicely packaged
to promote Linux specifically.

There's a big hurdle to overcome. BSA, MS, FAST, RIAA/MPAA are all out
there with advertisements, shills, and coverage of raids/legal assaults to
spread the message that non-MS software is illegal. Sometimes the message
is direct, sometimes it is implied, but it targets even non-MS closed
source.

[Marketing] 2.0.1 ISO now available.

2006-01-05 Thread Alex Fisher
This is now on the mirrors, and thanks to Mike is available through
BitTorrent.

There are two images, the first contains the 2.0.1 packages for Windows, Linux
ans Solaris (both SPARC and x86), plus an outdated Mac installer (the 2.0.1
Mac installer still has a few important issues, which will be fixed for
2.0.2, at which stage it will be placed on the ISO), plus some selected
documentation.

The second contains extras, such as Open Clip Art, templates and additional
documentation.Although there is an autorun.inf file, there is so far no
installer for this. Anyone with the necesary skills who might care to create
a suitable graphical installer for these extras is most welcome to do so. The
only proviso is that the installer needs to function with all versions of
Windows from Win 98 on.

It is only necessary to download the first image, the second (extras) image is
optional. The images can easily be identified, as the names used reflect the
contents.

To find them on the servers for FTP/HTTP download, go to your preferred
mirror, navigate to the /contrib/iso/en/ directory.

Thanks to Alex, Mike! and everyone else! I think getting an installer
for the extras would be terrific, and would be happy to post it to a
to-dos page on the distribution project.

Cheers

Thanks.
Where can I find the agenda for the next meeting? And the date? Reading
list archives is difficult. Especially if you must do it regularly.

Question: Will Louis and Jacqueline participate in the discussion
evaluating their behaviour? Will they vote?

Thanks again.

Daniel.

The council meeting (or at any rate the item here) is not about Louis
and Jacqueline's actions as much as the ensemble of issues regarding
the situation in MP and relate to the two items put before the council
by Ian Lynch and Adam Moore, via the [EMAIL PROTECTED] list, the preferred
vehicle for agenda items. Put another way, afaik, neither Jacqueline nor
I are being judged, at least, not as far as I know. Rather, the
submissions by Ian and Adam related to clarifying the situation in MP,
esp. regarding the sequelae to the DLS messages. Other issues will
surely be raised. The time is probably (not yet fully set) Wednesday or
Thursday 12-1400 UTC.

The agenda can be found on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] archives.

Thanks. It may be good to have the agenda posted somewhere that's easy

When you log into OOo, the box on the right has a link that points to
council list archives. Quite a few actually look at it. But yes, we can
post the link more than one place, and the council homepage is not a bad
one.

The archives can be dreadfully slow so it would be nice to have it elsewhere.
