Re: [RELEASE]: propose new snapshot build based on rev. 1496831.

Hello Ariel,
hello @

when can I expect DEBS 64 bit so I can install it under Wheezy (Debian
7.0), looking for the UI and finishing the transaltion for the
Germanophone Help. Most of it is the presenter minimizer.

Kind regards

looks like uploading finished while I was sleeping (11 GB take a lot of
time). You can find them here:
http://people.apache.org/~arielch/developer-snapshots/snapshot/

Recall to remove all previous installations:

* debian based:

sudo apt-get purge openoffice.org-ure openoffice.org*-debian-menus

tar xvf
cd /DEBS
sudo dpkg -i ./*.deb ./desktop-integration/*.deb

* yum:

su -c 'yum erase openoffice.org-ure openoffice.org*-redhat-menus'

tar xvf
cd /RPMS
su -c 'yum --nogpgcheck localinstall ./*.rpm'
su -c 'yum --nogpgcheck localinstall ./desktop-integration/'

do we have showstopper issue for this?

We should not check in any files without a related show stopper issue.

In a recent note you said the plan was to check in the logo-related
changes before July 1st:

http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-dev/201306.mbox/%3C51C16876.402%40gmail.com%3E

There was no objection to that proposal so I assumed that we were
agreed that it was OK to check in logo changes before July 1st,
without any additional approval needed.

Sorry for any confusion.

I personal prefer to have a task id for any change but this is of course
handled differently

A task/issue provides normally a little bit more information about the
motivation behind the change. This can help later. But probably you will
get 3 different answers when you ask 3 different people.

just go in the module and call "build" or in a sub dir and call "dmake". That's
valid for modules that still use dmake.
Modules that use gnu make, call "make -sr"

You can copy the related dll directly in your office ad long as you haven't
made incompatible changes that require the rebuild of other modules that

Hope this helps

Is there up-to-date documentation somewhere of which versions open
which formats, or at least a definitive list of what 3.4/4.0 open and
write? I've found these, which are old (and both say the program can
open WordPerfect):

Pre-requisite for Tamil Version of AOO 4.0

2013-06-28 Thread Kadal Amutham
Today I downloaded AOO-TA and installed under Windows XP. Tamil text were
not displayed properly and I could not type in Tamil word. Then I reported
this in Bugzilla and I got back immediate reply, there is some thing wrong
in the OS. Check it. Then, I downloaded, a small package from Google,
installed as per the instruction and now I am able to type.

Google offers phonetic typing. For example I want to type my name in Tamil,
I have to press the following keys
 kadal

If I want to type as per the Tamil keyboard, then I have to type the
following keys

fly

With out these pre-requisites, AOO-TA can not be used.

My suggestion is , while installing AOO, there should be a screen telling
about this prerequisite and providing required links, so that they can
install the same and use AOO-TA

Hello Mike,

Typically for applications like this the screen sharing logic is in a
separate program. That way it can support sharing content from
multiple applications. I'm not sure it would make sense to bake this
kind of functionality into a presentation editor.

Another approach is to simply share the underlying ODF presentation
files and then have a protocol for broadcasting the page turns. That
has some nice qualities since it allows the viewing user to see the
slides at full resolution, or even to use a screen reader if they are
blind.

Hello Alex,

Thanks for writing and welcome to the Apache OpenOffice project!

I must admit I know very little about lace. But I saw someone making
lace in the Netherlands once, by hand, and it looked extremely
complicated. I'll stick with macramé ;-)

On the volunteer side, and since you do have good writing skills, we
do have a documentation team that can use some more help:

http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-doc.html

Another idea is to simply use Apache OpenOffice for your ordinary
computer tasks and keep notes on any tips and tricks that you think
would be useful for users like you. That could form the nucleus of an
article (or something longer).

Hello Igor,

There is an extensibility mechanism defined in ODF 1.2 to add RDF/XML
or RDFa elements and attributes into specified locations in a
document. But it is not a generic mechanism where you can add
arbitrary XML nodes.

You can read more about this support here:

Hello Andreas,

Thanks for writing and welcome to the Apache OpenOffice project!

You probably want to join our marketing mailing list. Volunteers on
that mailing list work on logos and other art work as well.

More information on the marketing team and how to join the mailing
list are here:

http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-marketing.html

If you can join that mailing list and introduce yourself there, I (and
the other volunteers) can fill you in on what we're working on.

And one particular thing that is on our list, waiting for attention,
is to design a CD cover for Apache OpenOffice 4.0, for those who want
to distribute OpenOffice on a physical CD. We can discuss this some
more once you are on the marketing mailing list.

-Rob

Roberto, is it possible to get a separate area on a SourceForge

/

You can use the files from my Apache people account to fill the

mirror:

http://people.apache.org/~marcus/aoo/4.0.0/binaries/...

You can do that in few ways:

- you can create a new project and do any testing you want in it, that
would be fine;

- you can create a new folder and mark it as "staged" in which it is
all set up and downloads work, but the folder won't be visible during
normal file browsing;

- you can point to not existing AOO 4.0 files and get 404 error
messages.

great, I can do it myself. I'll give it a try until or at the coming
weekend.

Maybe I missed to clarify something, though. The nice things about the
staged directory method are that:

(1) the files are in their right place for when they go live (get
marked as unstaged), so no new waiting for mirror-updates is needed,
and (2) there's no need for fiddling with extra projects (setup,
admin, deletion, etc.).

For those reasons I'd encourage you to consider the second option. If
you want some help just let me know, I can ask our Support to help
you.

OK, sounds really better. However, I seem to fail to create a new

directory.

I got an account on SourceForge now but I don't see any new options. Or

am I

on a wrong way?

I guess you've not been put among projects' admin. Please send me your
SourceForge account and I'll do rightaway.

OK, done by PM.

BTW:
Have you already noticed that we will change the directory structure with
AOO 4?

So, the old ones, e.g.:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/localized/de/3.4.1/

and

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/stable/3.4.1/

will be cancelled and the following structure will become valid to keep

it

simple and reduced complexity:

.../aoo/4.0.0/source/
.../aoo/4.0.0/binaries//
.../aoo/4.0.0/binaries/SDK/

Yea, and I guess the staged approach would be good especially for this
reason.

OK

I assume the old 3.4.1/3.4.0 files will remain unchanged? Or is the
plan to adapt them to the new directory scheme?

At least up now, old installation files were simply moved into the archive.

My suggestion is to leave them as they are, here's why.

The stats are tied to the path and filename, so if you move them, the
per-file/per-folder stats won't be available anymore. Note that the stats
from the old locations are still counted in aggregate totals though. So,
their total download count shouldn't change.

Marcus

PS:
Is it right that the URL still needs a "/download" at its end to

start

the
download?

The /download should be there at the end of the URL. If it's not, it
still should work, but we'll do an extra redirect on our side to add
it to the URL.

OK, then I will make sure that this is still added to the download URL.

Thanks

Marcus

We had volunteers do some tranlsations of release notes for 3.4.1 . But
this was not universal for all the languages for which 3.4.1 was released.
It would be wonderful if we could provide translations and other useful
information for all them in native language release notes.

Just thinking aloud: Is it possible to put the release notes on pootle?
Build a third project, "Apache OpenOffice 4.x release notes"? And the
release announcement?

Re: Launching OpenOffice on windows 8 after a silent installation

2013-06-28 Thread nikita sharma
Hi Alexandro,

I just installed OpenOffice.Org 3.4.1 on my Win8 and I am successfully able
to see the icon for Openoffice.org 3.4.1 in "Programs and Features" item
under "Control Panel ".

Also, I can see 6 to 7 icons of OpenOffice Application in "All Apps" in
Metro UI.

PS: I downloaded the installer from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/?source=dlp

Regards,
Nikita

I think it is better to have separate page as instruction for installation
of Tamil version. If you have any template, kindly send me and I will add
it.

"Open" from file menu

2013-06-28 Thread Rajath Shashidhara
Hello,
since i have installed my .oxt,
i tried to open a document stored on my local server using file->open menu.
but when i give the filename ad press enter. the document doesnt open.

Is it normal? Is there more work to be done to open the document on

Then the Release Notes are that dedicated page. The 3.4.1 version, just
to give you an idea, is at

http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html
and as you can see it was translated to multiple languages.

When the 4.0 page is ready in English, shortly before release, you'll be
able to copy it, translate it into Tamil and add relevant information.

Regards,
  Andrea.
