problems with office

Good morning.  In just the past couple of days, problems have developed when I 
open office.  A  notification comes up on screen which says:

The last time you opened Openoffice, it unexpectedly quit while opening 
windows.  Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?  If you choose not to 
reopen windows, you may have to open and position the window yourself.

It then gives the choice of Don’t reopen  or Reopen.

Regardless of which choice I make, the notification does not disappear from 
screen.  I also can no longer give commands to edit, save, print etc. on any 
page I am working on, and have to physically drag the item into printer to get 
it printed.  Also I can no longer quite Openoffice, and have to Force Quit it 
every time.  I cannot shut down the computer until I have forced quit as it 
cancels shutdown each time.

Any ideas please?!  I have already reinstalled Openoffice, replacing it with 
what was already on my computer, but this has made no difference.

You need to delete the folder org.openoffice.script.savedState. It is in the Saved 
Application State folder in your User/Library.

It
is a common error that when positioning lines and shapes that the
Snap Line or Snap Point is accidentally moved slightly.
This
is often not noticed immediately.
Please
provide an option to lock these Snaps into their set position.


Doy you talk about
- objects that get placed or
- objects which help positioning (HelpLines, Grid, edges of existing
objects, ...)
here? If you have cases where there is a misplacement in snapping,
please provide a reproducable example, this would be an error. Please
note that snapping can be influenced while in action by pressing
qualifiers (shift, ctrl, tab) and by changing snap features (see
view/toolbars/options in draw).
Note that you can create helplines with start to drag on the rulers,
they even have an UI for setting them to precise positions.

It
would also be nice when dragging such Snaps that the X-Y co-ordinates
are displayed during the dragging,


This is in the last line of the app at the left; a text and measurements
dependent of the type of action is displayed.
The idea to keep this after MouseUp for a defined time is nice,
especially since the reason is very good.

In the drawing toolbar, use the rightmost dropdown from the toolbar
itself, choose customize. Use add, Seelct drawing left, add what you
need. Best is to add Ellipse, there are two, use the general one which
adds another drop-down toolbox to the menu.

provide a line arc tool that lets you click on a line and convert it
to a circular arc – the point would appear at the centre of the
line and be dragged at a normal to the line
So
instead of Modify – To Curve you would also have Modify – To
Circular Curve


You should be able to do that using the Points mode (see icon or press
F8 in draw/impress) and using the bezier stuff.


5.
Please
provide an option to allow a line to be specified in two ways, shown
on the one dialog box
a. Origin, length and
angle
b. Begin point and end
point


This is missing, only pos/size is available for the object, so if it's a
line you can define the start/end point exactly.



6.
It
is a real major pain that intersecting lines cannot be selected and
fragmented at their intersecting point(s).
Please
fix this.


Not possible with lines; would need to constuct filled objects including
the lines, using substract and extract the results.
Good suggestion to offer that with lines directly.


7.
Please
make it easy to add onto a line by clicking onto a line, selecting an
end point, then selecting a line tool (line, arc, polygon) and then
just use that line tool to extend the original line.


You can add/remove/edit points using the edit points toolbar

Lastly,
I know this is not intended to be a 3D Cad program.
But
a few features would help.
a. Have the ability to
group several shapes before rotation.


This is possible, group or just multi-select what you need

I've test it and seems that is working correctly. Would have been
better to provide at testcase since most of the enhancements can be

As you describe it (the problem does not appear if you are on the same 
machine, but appears when you copy the PDF file to another machine) the 
issue seems related to fonts and not to OpenOffice.

English Dictionaries 2014-01-01

I pressed the "PUBLISH" button in the "English Dictionaries" but the
new version, 2014-01-01, doesn't appear in replacement of the old
one.

I saw written somewhere in the site:

MacOSX: How to get rid of the dialog The last time you opened ... ?

Hi there,

experimenting different versions of AOO on MacOSX (10.9.1) I ended up getting 
an AOO popup reading:
The last time you opened OpenOffice, it unexpectedly quit while reopening 
windows. Do you want to
try to reopen its windows again?. No matter which button (Don't Reopen, 
Reopen) I press the
dialog remains and in another window AOO starts.

Chosing the menu Tools - Customize... yields no reaction.

Choosing the menu OpenOffice - Preferences is grayed out (maybe the Java 
settings need
adjustment as I have installed Apple's Java after receiving the new Mac).

When closing all instances of AOO the dialog window remains on screen. I need 
to forcefully kill the
soffice process, either interactively or using kill -9 on the command line.

The next time I remove, install any version of AOO (in my case 4.0.0 and 4.0.1) 
the above repeats.

Is there anything I could do to stop AOO from thinking to reopen the windows 
again? If it is stored
with the user's profile, where is that user profile located on the Mac such 
that I can delete it
(assuming that the Customize... and Preferences... menu items will become 
active again)?

Good! I'm happy that we have a new maintainer for it. As for the 
Unpublished status, I think it's unrelated. Probably you edited the 
extension description (not the release; the main extension description) 
and this triggered an anti-spam filter.

If you already did what you were instructed to do, it's OK and you just 
need to wait. Then, when the extension is republished, you will still 
have to wait a few days (so it's normal that you see no updates 
available), then OpenOffice users will get notified of the new version.



Should I update Apache's dictionary every month or only at a certain pace?


I recommend that you check that everything works this time, and make the 
next update shortly before it can be integrated into OpenOffice 4.1.0 
and publish it a few days after OpenOffice 4.1.0. This is what I did 
with 4.0.1.

Rony, please keep a copy of the wrong state. We were rather sure to have 
fixed this with

The other change -- which probably needs more discussion -- is to
implement some form of skiplinks.  The current problem is a user
needs to tab over the navigation links on every page they load before
they get to the actual page contents.  Best practice is to have some
short cut to go directly to navigation, to content, to footer.  The
tricky thing is to do this in a way that works well with the page
design as well.

This page implements it in a clever way:

Nice way to present the user a shortcut to some common link groups.


Hit tab a couple times in your browser and you'll see the links show
up in the upper right.  This is done with CSS tricks to position the
ul  off screen except when it has the focus.


So they have this meta-navigation:

But I wonder what happens if you try to print a page like that.
Hopefully the browsers are smart enough not to print many blank pages
followed by the off-screen menu...


My Firefox want to print 6 pages with only the expected content.


The complication with our website is that we have side menu navigation
on some (but not all pages).  But we have top nav, and footer, on all
pages.

Yes, that's my understanding.  When we view the page this is clear
from the visual context:  a text input next to a button labeled
search is for the search query.  But the context is not always clear
with a screen reader so we need to make it explicit.

page, e.g., I want to download OpenOffice.  But there is noh1.
The doc I read said this inconsistency can confuse navigation via a
screen reader.  One option might be to make these all beh1and then
adjust the CSS accordingly.Or maybe they should be anullist?

However, if there is no need for one, then a hidden h1 could help to solve
the confusion but also keep the current webpage conent and style.

The hidden attribute seems to look like the best option but maybe not as
it seems not to work in MS IE. Could someone test this?

Theh1   would be the parent of all theh2's, including Recent blog
posts.  So not just the left column.  A hiddenh1   might stop the
warning message, but I'm to sure it really fixes the problem.  But
this might be the lesser of the problems.  At least we're not
inconsistent in our headers, e.g., having anh2   under anh3   or
something like that.

I don't think so. Otherwise we would give up the link in the headline or the
text. And the headline and text should have different text formatting,
right?

That might silence the warning message, but the problem is still
there.  The issue is someone navigating by keyboard will see every
link twice in a row.  So it is a matter of excess noise on the page.

I wonder if it would be better to have the image and theh2   be the
live links, and not link the smaller long description?  Then we might
be able to put the image and the text all in onea?


This seems to help and also produces no HTML error (verified via W3C HTML 
validator):

However, the text is now displayed in light-grey and doesn't change anymore

CSS hacks are necessary. Up to now I haven't found the root cause.


css needs to follow order so h2.a and p.a styles need to be copied into a.h2 
and a.p styles - this may be tedious. That depends on the cascade.

Little improvements from the first Web Satisfaction Survey (sent to @dev)

I've read through the results of the Web Satisfaction Survey that Rob 
has started (the first one went only to the subscribers of dev@, as kind 
of beta test, right?).


From this I made some improvements:

- www.openoffice.org:
  - Added the current version into the download link.

- www.openoffice.org/download:
  - Added the release date into the green download box (link and title
text).

  - Made some links bold to increase their visibility.

- www.openoffice.org/download/other.html:
  - Changed Mac OS X into OS X. It seems Apple has renamed its
product already ~2 years ago (see [1]).

  - Added a link in TOC to porting for, e.g., Solaris builds.


BTW:
One comment was to add links for Beta and RC versions to the download 
webpage. This will indeed happen when we release AOO 4.1.0 Beta.
