Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

2014-05-13 Thread Joan Learmonth
Hi,
I am having a problem with Open Office 4.01.
I am busy creating a 2015 calendar using the spread sheet, when I go to the
Header and type in the month say January this goes across the whole twelve
months, go to February and repeat the process it changes everything to
February. I have spent hours looking on line how to resolve this and nothing
has worked.
Last year before the upgrade it workedso this is very frustrating, can
you email a solution to this problem?

I look forward to your reply,

Some examples, to show that a dropdown, or auto redirection ARE common

* Adobe.com stays in English, but opens a popup with an offer to be
redirected to a regional website.

ahm, I'm not here. ;-)

Honestly, I would like to get the download feature finished first,
before I start another website change as my time for AOO is very limited.

However, if you have some HTML/JS/CSS skills you could try yourself:

http://www.openoffice.org/test/

Update its content with a current copy of the
http://www.openoffice.org/index.html page(s) and just start. If
something gets broken, then only in the "test/" area which nobody bothers.

An account for Mpferrel was created earlier today on the m-wiki. You
should receive an e-mail shortly (if you haven't already) with a
temporary password. If you do not receive one please get back to us
either here or on the documentation list at

documentation list as it is where most decisions around documentation
are made and where they can be discussed and questions answered. To
subscribe send a blank e-mail to
mailto:doc-subscr...@openoffice.apache.org, then follow the instructions
contained in the reply you will receive.

Also please read the Documentation Orientation page at

recommended are the level 1 and 2 Orientation pages at

an overview of how projects work at Apache and also an overview of the
technical infrastructure that is used.

Welcome and I look forward to working with you.

The MSFT example can be perhaps interpreted as an instance of what not to do,
despite so many doing it. (I age visibly after working my way through MSFT
sites.) :-)

The JS for this, if this behaviour is what is wanted, is not that hard. What I
did before, is a) go into the source or developer version of the page, as
represented by any major browser; b) then copy the JavaScript or whatever; c)
Search for "redirect by IP code for webpage" and copy and plug in to the page.
Then d), test. But this is hacking in its crudest form. :-)

louis

PS the Why page also had a much neater redirect; not sure it's still there.

Re: Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

Hi Dave,
Thank you for your reply, sorry I haven't explained myself properly.
I have a new spread sheet for each month and between each month I insert a
sheet to paste a picture to, in total I use about 25 new sheets for this
project so when I go to Edit - Header/footer and type in the month of January
this copies to every sheet, but what I want is January for January, February
for February and so on.
I hope this is clearer.

Hi Joan,

What you describe sounds like you are modifying an existing sheet and
you may have moved/removed one or more rows, which in turn has moved the
month cells (what you call "The Header") into a row that is a merge of a
number of cells in that row. Try this:

  * Click inside the (header) month cell (eg. January).
  * From Calc's main menu select the "/Format -> Merge Cells -> Merge
and Center Cells/" option.

If my guess is correct, you will then have removed the "merge" and
reinstated the 12 individual cells.

Hope this helps.

I haven't checked the latest iteration of Google Docs. At one point—and I write
this prior to checking—one of the options to save was "OpenOffice Format"
(maybe they didn't include capitals). I was able to open and save as ODT (or
other ODF files, but I didn't try them all).

This was early in Google Docs' life. I'll check out the latest iteration, but I
have no reason to doubt you; I just am curious as to what a Mac OS X user can
expect to experience, even using Chrome but not only.

Indeed it is not GNU/Linux. It is generally regard, however, as "… an operating
system based on the Linux kernel with a user interface".* But then I never said
it was based on GNU/Linux. (I have issues with Wikipedia all the time but we
can provisionally accept their language here as acceptable, yes? This does not
mean that Android is "free" as accepted by FSF, which of course also has had
issues with Linux itself. I mean GNU/Linux. ;-)

[MWiki] Account creation

2014-05-13 Thread Matthew Farrell

Hi,

I am requesting that a user account be created. My team mate and I are
doing a University project where we have to contribute to an Open Source
Project. My team mate contacted a user named Andrea Pescetti 6 days ago
who recommended we have an attempt at the Writer and Calc user guides.

Preferred Username: Mpfarrell

Thanks,
Matthew Farrell & Benjamin Hunt

Re: is it offical? OenOffice Online

2014-05-13 Thread Alexandro Colorado
Seems that you need windows to run this. That's disapointing.
And is definetly not official otherwise you would see some
announcement on our part. But thanks for the heads up.

Btw this is the site.

[www] [SUGGEST] Change "Native Language" to Dropdown/select box

2014-05-13 Thread Tal Daniel
I'd like to suggest to replace the "Native Language" link, on
www.openoffice.org menu to a more visible dropbox.

E.g. Product | Download | ... | "Lanauge: [English ]"

I believe users are more accustomed to select their language from a select
box, rather than clicking "native language" (I remember I had a hard time,
as a beginner OpenOffice site visitor to understand what does this link
mean).

This would also allow faster move to a translated version of the site, for
people who prefer to read it in their language.

+ Another suggestion is to move the suggested dropdown box above the menu
bar, somewhere near the search box.

The backlog queue is still being emptied, there was 9 million mails in it,
so that takes days before all mails are sent (e.g. google throttles our
mail sending).

I thought this issue was solved.

It is a packaging issue. So it varies from distribution to distribution.
The official packages, last time I checked, did not conflict.

  Andrea.

FrOSCon is in St. Augustin (near Bonn, Rhine Area), in Brussels the
event is called FOSDEM - we visit both

There are some more events. We can ask friends to place our flyers there
(if we have some).
