[RELEASE]: proposal for AOO 4.1.1 schedule

2014-07-01 Thread Jürgen Schmidt
Hi,

I have reviewed the issues that we have so far for AOO 4.1.1, the
translation deadline and updates we have, the testing activities etc.
and I propose the following schedule for our upcoming AOO 4.1.1 bugfix
release.

July 8th, milestone build m2
July 18th, translation deadline
July 23th, milestone build m3
August 1th, RC1
- depending on feedback etc. further RC candidates on demand
August 26th GA (or earlier, depending on feedback and QA outcome)

One of the biggest problems is the upload speed and I calculate at the
moment with ~3 days. It's still a pain and no fun.

Any opinions or comments?

[REQUEST] help needed on newly submitted issues

2014-07-01 Thread Oliver-Rainer Wittmann

Hi,

in order to assure that we address the serious defects in our planned
4.1.1 release I would like to request help on newly submitted issues.

My issue query for issues which had been submitted since our 4.1.0
release and which are not solved contain more than 200 issues. Most of
them are in status unconfirmed and several of them have subjects which
indicate that they are critical.

In order to support the developers it would be really great, if these
issues could be reviewed:

- check, if the issue can be reproduced -- status confirmed
-- if not reproducible, ask for more information -- keyword needmoreinfo
- check, if the issue is a duplicate -- resolve as duplicate
- check, if the issue is a regression to a recent release - e.g. no
defect in 4.0.0 or/and 4.0.1, but not in 4.1.0 -- adjust version field
- give attention to issues which seem to be serious enough to be
considered for the next release.

Thanks in advance,
Oliver.

Re: Dropping even 10.6 -- WHY?

Hi Doug,

On 30.06.2014 16:34, Douglas Mencken wrote:
I'm here to ask you: why you decided to drop 10.6 support?
Rob already pointed out the discussion thread where this lead to the decision
to support only newer
versions of MacOSX.

Is it not so hard to keep it running, isn't it?
This depends on human resources available for the MacOSX platform.

By the way, I'm LO guy, so see my patches, for example:
 https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/gitweb?p=core.git;a=commitdiff;h=47b520024a236eac8807a33630f493a00fc5f243
 https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/gitweb?p=core.git;a=commitdiff;h=a2ee38ef7afcec27f46530bf9e177939e38cc815
Would it be possible for you to check your patches on the AOO code as well?

If it works on AOO and you also submit a patch for AOO with the AL 2.0 license,
it could be applied
for AOO and if so, would then be used by LO implicitly as long as LO is based
on the AOO code and
refreshes its code base with the AOO code.

Why is it so hard for you to support even 10.6 (no to say 10.5@powerpc)?
 WHY?
Because in AOO land there are not enough people who have the necessary
knowledge and/or
infrastructure (10.6) to keep up the support for 10.6 in a reliable (tested)
manner.

Again, I know corporate guys are unable to read completely (unless it's
claimed by boss from high) — WHY?
I am not a corporate guy at all, but I have been around here for quite some
time (years) by now,
and cannot remember one incidence of read-unability or any boss from 'high'
by corporate guys.
ASF is a great place for any kind of guys and girls, corporate or private!

---

Assuming that you have the skills and infrastructures to keep up MacOSX support
for earlier versions
(in a tested manner), would you be interested/willing to help out in this area
w.r.t. AOO? Possibly
the only difference for you would be to release your patches under two
licenses, the AL 2.0 license
(only then can ASF include code donations) and the LO license.

(Please note, that LO is able to use all of AOO source code due to the AL 2.0
license.
Unfortunately, the LO-license inhibits ASF to apply the LO-patches. Therefore
the authors of LO
patches would need to add the AL license to their patches/code in order for AOO
being able to use it
at all! An author can put his code under any number of licenses in parallel.)

You mean the text in the three columns is too close?
It may depend on the resolution (try squeezing and enlarging the page,
the layout changes accordingly). Your seems to be 1280, right? (From
your previous email.)
Try having a look now (hard refresh to clean the cache).

 PS:
Please note that there is a difference between the page above the news

difference how to update both parts in general.
The part above the carousel (including the carousel) depends on

Okay, is rather different from the current layout but is also a bit
responsive (just to please everybody :P).
I didn't spend much time on the colors and alignment of elements, just
on the general layout of the page.

That's OK. We can see perfectly what you try to express.

And it looks like if you want to do more and volunteer to do this
little refresh. Am I guessing right? ;-)

I had a bit of a hard time trying to checkout ooo-site, it was hanging

It's just me looking at the wrong place or /ooo-site/ doesn't use

no, I meant when re-wording the text it would be a bit smaller and then
fitting better into the design and looking better. But it's just a small
thing.

I've seen the bootstrap addition and it looks good.

But what I meant is that the upper and lower part (header and footer

Whereas the middle part is coming directly from HTML files.

Therefore we have to handle this different.

Regarding download page for simplified Chinese,It's more like two
different dialects where I can understand but I'm not able to express
properly.
However I've seen that both main page and download page translated,
which is good enough already.

yes, thats for the main page and meant in general. Of course the download
 webpage is now served perfectly.

Please help to submit translated main page for traditional Chinese
(zh-tw) and update for download page ( a typo were fixed and some fine
 tune for translation)

I've committed the attached JS file. Please note that this is only for the
 download webpage.

 BTW:
I've no idea how big the language difference is but the other website

We had most languages reviewed and fixed within 24 hours on the l10n
list. This is quite impressive. Having placeholders helped a lot.
 Still,
those where we still have unreviewed Google translations in a few
 days
should maybe be changed back to English, to avoid the scam site
 effect
(machine translation) and avoid the risk to confuse visitors about
 the
fact that this is the official download site.

Especialyl every page with non-latin characters is difficult to manage
if you don't have the skills for understandling at least a bit.

 So, I tend to agree.

hm, it seems the attachment was stripped off by the mailer daemon.
Please send it to me by private mail. I'll then take care tomorrow.

I turned off the call-for-help message and translated the most part of
the page except the recent news and the recent blog post.
The old one ( which is archived now in svn ) still talked about
OpenOffice 3.4, giving me an impression that page ( or the support of
the language ) is not well maintained.
How are the recent news and the recent blog post handled in different
languages?

The news are not translated (or only in very rare cases). So, the short
text can be translated but the link refers to the original text.

Minor dictionary error.

2014-07-01 Thread Howard Morris (aka Col_Boogie)
When someone has time, please add the word 'matchup' (as in matchup between two
teams) to the dictionary.
I live in Cordova, TN and the dictionary doesn't like Cordova. I checked
Google, and we are not the only one.
However, since I can always add it to the local dictionary, that is too minor
to worry about.

Hi All,

As Juergen announced, the first milestone build (m1) for AOO 4.1.1 is
currently uploading. Then here comes the call for volunteers on AOO
  4.1.1
testing.

If you have interest and can help over the next few weeks, on Linux
   Redhat
64bit, Linux Ubuntu 64bit, Mac 10.9, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Window
   2012,
please send a note to the QA mailing list (q...@openoffice.apache.org
 ).
   If
you have a Testlink account[1] send your ID as well as what platform
  you
can help test(if you haven't a Testlink account, you can register
 one).
You should also get installation sets from [2] and report issues in
Bugzilla [3]. You may want to refer Test Plan in [4].

Subject: [RELEASE][MILESTONE]: preparation of AOO 4.1.1 milestone 1
To: dev dev@openoffice.apache.org

Hi,

well we have not finally defined the release schedule for AOO 4.1.1
 but
the train has started already and I have prepared a first milestone
build that is currently uploading.

The milestone (m1) build is based on the AOO410 branch on revision
1603804. The fixed issue compared to AOO 4.1 can be found under [1]
 and
the binaries can be found under [2] (when the upload is finished).

The upload is ongoing and I expect it will be finished tonight or
tomorrow, yes we still have a bottleneck here. But anyway no pressure
  at
the moment but I invite all volunteers to give it a try as early as
possible and provide feedback. Next week we will define in more
 detail
the release schedule and I hope that we can address the most
 important
and serious problems we have currently.

Download-Seite funktioniert nicht richtig ... Hilfe Marcus?

2014-07-01 Thread Jörg Schmidt
Hallo *,

Ich möchte nur kurz informieren das:

1.
Der Link Ich möchte OpenOffice herunterladen auf der de-Startseite derzeitig
nicht richtig funktioniert

2.
Auf:
http://www.openoffice.org/de/downloads/index.html

Kein einsichtiger Weg zu existieren scheint um auf die Übersuchtsseite aller
downloads zu kommen.

Wähle ich in der linken Combo-Box More platforms / operating systems komme
ich aud die Third-party-Seite:
http://www.openoffice.org/porting/index.html

Und das dort unter officially available for the following platforms der
Zugriff auf alle downloads möglich ist habe ich nur durch Zufall gefunden, ein
Normaluser wird das wohl überlesen.

Gruß
Jörg
