Re: AAO writer RC-2 Solved

2017-09-06 Thread Greg Madden
per bugzilla, bug has been closed as not an Writer problem.

I installed RC-2 on my workstation and it performs perfectly in my work
environment.

The problems is with Vbox and my OS, specifically the mouse, that is
where all the crashes occurred.

Apologize for the extra work caused, thanks for the help.

AAO writer RC-2

2017-08-27 Thread Greg Madden
Debian stable, the following.

Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.4_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz RC-2

Long time user, have all my forms for my work created with Writer as
templates using "Tables" and the current stable AOO.

RC-2 has introduced some unstable behavior. Create a 10x34 row/column
table. I use 4 different styles on my table, modify the styles first.

Select some cells, use "merge cells" apply style to new cell(s)

Writer crashes..disappears with no error message. Restart the recovery
process is working. Sometimes it crashes during the cell selection
process, other times with the "merge cell" button. sometimes quickly
some slowly, but a crash occurs.

Hope this is helpful, the current version works perfectly..thank you,
would like to help make the next release as reliable.

Re: Installing AOO on Ubuntu/Mint/Debian

2014-08-31 Thread Greg Madden
It is sometimes useful to have both, they are different enough to be
desirable. It seems to be a Linux distro issue, I am a Linux user.
Libreoffice v4.3 uses 'libreoffice4.3 as it executable instead of
'soffice', Apache is now the only user of 'soffice'
Until Linux distros catch up ?, installing packages from Openoffice.org
and Libreoffice.org is what I do here.

 Hi All,

As Juergen announced, the first milestone build (m1) for AOO 4.1.1 is
currently uploading. Then here comes the call for volunteers on AOO 4.1.1
 testing.

If you have interest and can help over the next few weeks, on Linux Redhat
 64bit, Linux Ubuntu 64bit, Mac 10.9, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Window 2012,
please send a note to the QA mailing list (q...@openoffice.apache.org). If
you have a Testlink account[1] send your ID as well as what platform you
can help test(if you haven't a Testlink account, you can register one).
You should also get installation sets from [2] and report issues in
Bugzilla [3]. You may want to refer Test Plan in [4].

Subject: [RELEASE][MILESTONE]: preparation of AOO 4.1.1 milestone 1
 To: dev dev@openoffice.apache.org

 Hi,

well we have not finally defined the release schedule for AOO 4.1.1 but
the train has started already and I have prepared a first milestone
 build that is currently uploading.

The milestone (m1) build is based on the AOO410 branch on revision
1603804. The fixed issue compared to AOO 4.1 can be found under [1] and
the binaries can be found under [2] (when the upload is finished).

The upload is ongoing and I expect it will be finished tonight or
tomorrow, yes we still have a bottleneck here. But anyway no pressure at
the moment but I invite all volunteers to give it a try as early as
possible and provide feedback. Next week we will define in more detail
the release schedule and I hope that we can address the most important
and serious problems we have currently.

Yes. My Br-Pt is adequate enough that I could read it and understand. My
concern is just that when regular users of Ubuntu (not Debian Geeks), try
downloading AOO, they likely will be frustrated, as the latest versions of
the OS make it quite difficult indeed to bypass Canonical's very narrow

Before any further discussion of this, we should have real examples where
running the equivalent of yum install openoffice[.org] or apt-get
 install openoffice[.org] downloads something else.

Some distributions used transitional packages, but they have likely been
removed in recent releases in most cases. Let's get concrete examples from
 recent distribution releases before continuing.

(and yes, I also think that if such cases still exist it will be possible
to solve them in a friendly way; and the soffice alias is a separate
 problem)
