Hi Charles, you ask for jar so i assume that you want to use Java. If you want use the simple bootstrap mechanism you need the SDK to build your application. Later on you will always need an office installation to do the real conversion. Juergen charles chandran wrote: Hi May I know how can I use Openoffice.org api to convert a word document to pdf. [dev] Thank you for voting Beijing
Dear OpenOffice.org community, on the behalf of the proposing team, I would to like to thank you all for putting your trust in Beijing to host the 2008 OpenOffice.org Annual Conference. Having the OOoCon for the first time in Beijing means, that there will be a lot of attendees, who couldn't make it to Europe in the years before. We have big neighbor communities in Korea and Japan, that will be able to reach the OOoCon easily this. We also heard some great success stories over the last couple of weeks, especially from Vietnam and Cambodia, and I deeply hope, they will be told in-depth by the people who did it, in Beijing. Of course, this all means too, that now the original European community will now face the same issue of traveling to a remote location. Please be assured, that we will do everything we can to enable a very large number of people to come to Beijing. I hope to see you all of you at the OOoCon 2008 to celebrate both the community and the product. We will enter China trough the front door and make a lot of noise, so everybody can hear OpenOffice.org has arrived at a new shore. My point of view: Most people agree that OOo mustn't loose (meta) data when Java is not available, but plug ins for working with meta data can rely on Java. Changing OOo's Java base line from 1.4 to 1.5 is fine for most people then. Malte. Charles-H. [dev] New License and Contributor Agreement
All, Some interesting news. Summary * The license for code is changing from the early LGPL v 2.1 to 3.0 effective the Beta of OpenOffice.org 3.0. (The actual date of this beta has not been finalized.) * The Joint Copyright Assignment form (JCA) is being replaced by the Sun Microsystems Inc. Contributor Agreement (SCA). This change is effective immediately with this announcement. Background == Late last year, there was a discussion about the implications of the ratification of GPLv3 or LGPLv3 for OpenOffice.org among the OpenOffice.org project leads. The leads were generally in favour of adopting the updated licenses. The outcome of this and other discussions is that Sun is changing the license for the OpenOffice.org codebase to the more flexible and protective LGPL v3 [0], effective with the beta of OpenOffice.org 3.0 which is due later this year. This change is supported by the OpenOffice.org Community Council. This move forward is the natural evolutionary step to take for a codebase using a license from the FSF license family. The drafting process for the license involved substantial FOSS community input and we will benefit from this work. In particular, the new license includes additional protections for the community against software patents. OpenOffice.org will continue using the LGPL so as to minimize the disruption to our community and expanding ecosystem, which evolved around the LGPL codebase. The LGPL grants flexibility to a broad range of users and developers, while still ensuring that modifications to the code are contributed back to the community. The new license is a major reason to exchange the Joint Copyright Assignment(JCA) with the Sun Contributor Agreement(SCA) [1]. For OpenOffice.org there will be an addendum, which accommodates developers of the core OOo codebase and of non-core extensions through different contribution models. It does not change the fact that contributions to the product packaged as OpenOffice.org require an SCA. The addendum enables OpenOffice.org to more easily host the source code of extensions, and thus promotes collaboration with other interested parties on the respective extension in a familiar environment. There is similar flexibility for documentation. The creation of the related contribution guidelines is in progress. A large number of GPL/LGPL projects have already moved to v3 [2]. For OpenOffice.org the next major release is the right time to change. Preparations will start immediately, so that we can publish OpenOffice.org 3.0 Beta under LGPLv3. The SCA, including the OpenOffice.org addendum, will be published on the OpenOffice.org site together with a FAQ and a pointer to the Sun SCA FAQ [3]. It comes into effect with this announcement. See also our FAQ on licensing. [4]. A copy of this announcement can be found at http://www.openoffice.org/licenses/newlicense2008.html . [dev] GoOOoCon2008 / Prague ...
Hi guys, The Novell team thought that, what with the next OOoCon being in Beijing and the cost of travel there (etc.) and of course the broad focus of that conference; that it would be good to have a very hacker-focused event in Europe. So, we're inviting all hyper-technical people (with or without long hair) to join the Novell go-oo team for part of their annual team face-to-face in Prague. To re-iterate, this is not an attempt to undermine OOoCon - if you can only afford to go to one conference (money, time, spousal -patience / whatever); go to OOoCon. Having said that, it should be a fun time to sit and chew over the latest developments, problems, and opportunities - while getting to know other people. Re: [dev] GoOOoCon2008 / Prague ...
Michael, I am sorry but given the way you describe this event, it seems that: - it will be 'hackers' only - nobody will be able to speak politics (ah, those darned politics and politicians, always pointing out awkward things about your employer! Why do they even exist?) which in essence means, that discussions will be managed - you seem to be ignoring the existence of "RegiCons", or regional conferences that work very well. In short, you advertise for a Novell event. Notice that I think a Novell event could be an interesting idea, but, as I wrote above, the way it is being pictured looks problematic to me. [dev] how to use ClassLoader.getSystemResource(file) inside an extension ?
Hi, i try to load some *.xsd files for schema validation out of a jar file. As long as i start the jar file outside the office an connect via remote everything works fine. The *.xsd files are located inside the jar, for example: "my/package/resources/schema.xsd" But if i create an extension, the following code fails, cause the *.xsd files are not found :-( ... public InputStream getInputStreamFromFile(final String file) { final URL url = ClassLoader.getSystemResource(file); if (url != null) try { return url.openStream(); } catch (final IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return null; } any hint's ? Hi Robert, .xsd is in the same .jar file as your extension? If yes, yes it's inside the extension ... getClass().getResource( "/path/in/my/jar/something.xsd" ) should work. i just found: InputStream is = this.getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(file); anyway, i still do not understand why ClassLoader.getSystemResource(file); does not work inside an extension ... thanks Oliver -- GnuPG key 0xCFD04A45: 8822 057F 4956 46D3 352C 1A06 4E2C AB40 CFD0 4A45 signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

[dev] soffice.bin crash when start up and return value is 78
Hi all, I am new to OpenOffice development. I grabed the "vanilla" source codes from development build (build OOH680_m8) today. And I happily compiled them with the help of ccache and distcc. Some, compiling is not a great pain. However, when I want to launch the application, I do the following operations, and it crashes, $ . LinuxX86Env.Set.sh $ cd solver/680/unxlngi6.pro/bin/ $ ./soffice.bin -impress (.. a quick splash screen, then crash, can't even see what it is...) $ echo $? 78 However, when I install the packages, the installed program runs perfectly. $ cd instsetoo_native/unxlngi6.pro/OpenOffice/deb/install/en-US/DEBS/ $ sudo dpkg -i *.deb $ /opt/openoffice.org2.4/program/soffice.bin -impress ( runs normally ) So, could anyone give me some hints for this weird situation? Why can't I just launch applications in solver/680/unxlngi6.pro/bin/ directdory? I have googled the problem, some article suggest setting OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=none, but it is of no use. So, if I have to install those packages after each modifications, it is very inconvenient for testing and debugging. Some system information, Debian GNU/Linux lenny/testing 2.6.22-3-686 gcc (GCC) 4.2.3 (Debian 4.2.3-1) g++ (GCC) 4.2.3 (Debian 4.2.3-1) Sorry for the long post, any help will be appreciated.
