[dev] OOo 3 new features and performance speedup

2008-08-27 Thread Hung Nguyen Vu
Hi all,

Where I can find the list of new features of OOo 3?
And if possible, a benchmark versus 2.4?

An on par comparison with The Other Office Suites will be nice
but I don't think it is the right time to do so.

# FYI, OOo 3 release notes has no information I am looking for
# http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/OOoRelease30

# OOo Ninja has listed some new features of OOo 3 *BETA*
# but it is quite out of date and not official.

At this point, I've run "build" and everything was fine.

So far so good, it may take a while until I get OOo binary compiled or next
error :)

> 4. mv unxlngi6.pro unxlngi6.pro-failed

Is it equivalent to "dmake clean"
unxlngi6 folder is 6GB big and it takes a long time.

5. cd $SRC_ROOT and then build OOo entirely.

I will add "date" in my vh-config.sh.2 script.
How long does it take to compile OOo?( pen IV 3.2GB, 2GB Memory, SCSI 320
HDD)

Never mind,

#libXp is a part of x.org
Just get rid of it with:
yum install -y libXp libXp-devel

It didn't work. I got the same error ( could not find jar file ).

Only in my first try, I did something wrong and dmake could not be found.
Now, it is fine.

I will remove CXXFLAGS and CFLAGS in the next build.
I thought with -Werror, the standard output in my terminal will be cleaner,
which is worng.

I don't use cups. But I will build OOo with cups support next time.

Do we really need this?
Mozilla is too big!

>>>--with-use-shell=bash \
>>>--with-use-shell=bash \

this is specified twice...

I weird thing I've noticed:

Though --with-use-shell=bash was set in ./configure,

./configure reports:

"The variable SHELL is set to: /bin/tcsh"

after its run.
# I always use bash!

No. apparently it is not. and "jar" sounds like it is java, isn't it?

java, python, uno are not my goals at the moment.
I need a binary first.

The reason why I add some --disable-something is that I want to save
compiling time.

I will remove as much as --disable-something in ./configure in the next
build.

There is a dependency bug. It is obvious because as I in another email with
Christian Lohmaier,
he also says that for --without-java, dmake should not check .jar files.

I am want submit this bug to:
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/enter_bug.cgi [1]
But a question is: What component in [1] shoulld use?

But I will use java in the next build.

Some old versions of Ant does not work with the latest version of Java, 1.6.
> For instance, /usr/bin/ant "Apache Ant version 1.6.2" embedded in Fedora

> It, however, works fine with both /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_03 from java.com

j2sdk 1.4.1 has come it its End Of Line.
http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se-eol.html
I use j2sdk1.4.2_18 in the next build.
( j2sdk1.4.2_18 is the only 1.4.2 javac I can find in 1.4.x series on
java.com )

Therefore, using the latest tools might brings you some difficulties.

Whilst openoffice is big and complex, compiling process itself is fragile,
I believe that there must be a combination of tools so for a success build
:D.
I just need one of them...

What is the recommended version of gcc as well as other prerequisite
libraries?
And I will try to build with latest gcc 4.3.1.

Btw, the problem I am facing now has nothing to do with gcc version.

I am on another thread with Caolan and he says that (older) OOo can be built
with gcc 4.1.2 ,
but the binary will crash.

It is recommended by OOo team :). For faster build time.

In my first try, cd DEV300_m29; dmake cannot be found, so I specify its
full path.
Ignore it.

I just tried to disable anything I don't need.
--with-jdk-home=/usr/local/jdk1.6.0_07 and --without-java seems to be
abnormal but I hope it is fine(?).

Question: Why with --without-java, dmake still looks for a .jar file?

 See above,
I've checked and "which dmake" *IS* ./solenv/unxlngi6/bin/dmake.
Sorry for the confusion.

If your command shell answers another dmake, something goes wrongly.

I didn't find that string. However "Building module scripting" is found and
it is nothing unusual.

As you recomended,I am compiling gcc 4.3.1 on my machine which
will keep me busy for a while until I get back.

In this way, I will have someone to bug when 4.3.1 does not work well :P.

Should I upgrade my gcc?
What version of gcc is recommended for building OOo 3?

Thanks for you answer!!!

Hi all,

When I compile DEV300_m29 with dmake, I get the following *warning*:

/home/vuhung/public_html/foss/src/DEV300_m29/solver/300/

[dev] Some jar files are missing[ was: Re: [dev] Re: Error on building DEV300_m29: startup/config.mk, not found

2008-08-18 Thread Hung Nguyen Vu
I am still struggling with it.

In the build below, I've set --disable-java but when dmake has stopped
when It tried to build the RPM.

Questions:

1. Which RPM?
2. Where is the spec file for that RPM?
3. cd DEV300_m29; find -name ScriptFramework.jar returns nothing.
Is that this file is missing from CVS?
4. I assume that if I set --disable-java, not *jar files will be checked,
and the RPM file to be built must/should not check for those jar files.

I am sorry for making a lot of noise here :D

Is the the tarball you've mentioned?
md5sum OOo-Dev_DEV300_m29_src_system.tar.bz2

In the first build attempt, there was no OOo-Dev_DEV300_m29_src_system.tar.bz2

And I still got compiling error.

I've unpacked all the tarballs:

*sdk*tar.bz2 is 42 bytes big which seems weird.

Here is the list[1][2] of the tar.bz2 files that I have and unpacked.

I also checkout the missing libraries that m29 reports as instructed[3]

Now I build:

./configure --prefix=$HOME --disable-cups --disable-pam
--with-jdk-home=/usr/local/jdk1.6.0_07/ --disable-mozilla
--disable-qadevooo --without-system-stdlibs

cd ..
./bootstrap
source LinuxX86Env.Set.sh
export SOLENV=`pwd`/solenv/
./solenv/unxlngi6/bin/dmake

And got error likes:

ERROR: "../../unxlngi6.pro/bin/odkcommon/docs/common/ref/index-files" is missing

Full error is here[4]

[dev] Error on building DEV300_m29: startup/config.mk, not found

2008-08-15 Thread Hung Nguyen Vu
Hi all,

I've tried to compile DEV300_m29 from source.
The OS is CentOS, up to date default RPM installed, gcc 4.1.2

tar xjvf OOo-Dev_DEV300_m29_src_core.tar.bz2
cd DEV300_m29/config_office/
./configure --prefix=$HOME --disable-cups --disable-pam
--with-jdk-home=/usr/local/jdk1.6.0_07/ --disable-mozilla --disable-qadevooo
--without-system-stdlibs
cat warn # it is empty.
cd ../; ./bootstrap

[EMAIL PROTECTED] DEV300_m29]$ LANG=en_US ./solenv/unxlngi6/bin/dmake
dmake: Error: -- Configuration file `/usr/local/share/startup/startup.mk'
not found

where I can get startup.mk?

I've bravely( stupidly?) tried but still got an error:

scp -R ./solenv/inc/startup /usr/local/share/
LANG=en_US ./solenv/unxlngi6/bin/dmake
[EMAIL PROTECTED] DEV300_m29]$ LANG=en_US ./solenv/unxlngi6/bin/dmake
Checking module list
Can't open perl script "/bin/build.pl": No such file or directory
dmake: Error code 2, while making 'check_modules'
