I'll also toss in a -1 for quickstart and +1 for kickstart. The reason why I seconded Bertrand's point is that AEM and Sling are quite closely tied. Hence the potential for confusion. > > If we think that quickstart is confusing, than I think kickstart or > cloudstart are confusing as well. Re: [VOTE] Promote sling-org-apache-sling-quickstart / sling-quickstart-maven-plugin to their own Sling Modules
Many things are named quickstart, for example bnd uses the term as well. I personally don't think that this is a problem, as the term "quickstart" is always used in a context, being it Sling, Adobe, bnd etc. If we think that quickstart is confusing, than I think kickstart or cloudstart are confusing as well. This vote thread proposes quickstart - so we should not change the name while voting. So we have two options: - either we continue with the proposed name and go with it unless someone votes -1 - we stop the vote thread, discuss for another two weeks which name we should pick and then restart the vote thread with that name Carsten On 05.02.2020 08:15, Andreas Schaefer wrote: Hi As an motorbike driver I would suggest “kickstart” as the name making it: - sling-kickstart - sling-kickstart-maven-plugin Let me know if that works and I’ll adjust the Whiteboard - Andy On Feb 5, 2020, at 7:39 AM, Bertrand Delacretaz wrote: On Wed, Feb 5, 2020 at 4:32 PM Ruben Reusser wrote: how about crankstart, cloudstart or jumpstart?... First all all - thanks Andy for your persistence. This is taking quite a long time, but I am sure that in the end we'll get to the best solution. > > I'm sorry if I missed a discussion about this name change (can't see > it in this list's archives) but I'm not sure if "quickstart" is a > good > component name. > > The Adobe product based on Sling has been using "quickstart" as the > name of its startup jar for ages (*). Quickstart is indeed perfectly suited for my (admittedly biased) mind. Launchpad was nice as well, but that's what we get for burning through implementations :-) I see some confusion potential where people would be applying AEM quickstart knowledge to the Sling quickstart and vice-versa. I think your list is a good start, adding some potential options as well: quicklaunch, trebuchet, runway, blastoff, takeoff, liftoff, kickoff, spawn, fling. I'm sorry if I missed a discussion about this name change (can't see it in this list's archives) but I'm not sure if "quickstart" is a good component name. The Adobe product based on Sling has been using "quickstart" as the name of its startup jar for ages (*). I agree it's a somewhat common name but there's potential for confusion. If others agree that this is a problem I'd prefer a different name, here's my (9AM before coffee) brainstorm for names that we have IIRC not used in the past for this: launcher, launch, ballista, catapult, crossbow, bootstrap -Bertrand (*) since my younger self wrote the first version of that actually ;-)

[VOTE] Promote sling-org-apache-sling-quickstart / sling-quickstart-maven-plugin to their own Sling Modules
Hi This is a vote to promote the sling-org-apache-sling-quickstart and sling-quickstart-maven-plugin to their own Sling Module. This first module is the Feature Model counterpart of the sling-org-apache-sling-starter and will create an executable JAR file. The second is the counterpart of the sling-slingstart-maven-plugin which will start and stop a Sling Instance from a Maven run and is mostly used to run Integration Tests. Sling Quickstart: 1. Code Location: both are in the ‘sling-whiteboard’ under 'sling-org-apache-sling-quickstart` folder 2. Proposed Github Repo name (I just added feature into the name): - sling-org-apache-sling-quickstart 3. Proposed artifact ids (group id: org.apache.sling) - org.apache.sling.quickstart Sling Start Feature Maven Plugin: 1. Code Location: both are in the ‘sling-whiteboard’ under ‘sling-quickstart-maven-plugin` folder 2. Proposed Github Repo names (I just added feature into the name): - sling-quickstart-maven-plugin 3. Proposed artifact ids (group id: org.apache.sling) - sling-quickstart-maven-plugin I created a sample project to showcase how the quickstart and quickstart maven plugin will be used: https://github.com/schaefa/sling-fm-sample - Andy
