As an update - we are now SNAPSHOT-free in the launchpad/builder
project. 

We still have a release under vote so I'm going to get that in and plan
to start the release vote for the Launchpad 9 release on Wednesday.

If anything speaks for delaying the release, please let me know.

I updated the launchpad to use base-5.6.4-2.6.17-SNAPSHOT for now to get the 
latest Felix framework 5.6.4.

I pinged Chetan on the issue, let's see what his comments are. 

As they are nice-to-haves, I would wait for some days and see if we get
a proper resolution. If not, I would not delay the Launchpad 9 release,
as they don't seem critical.

It would be nice to include https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SLING-6482 
and https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SLING-6577 because currently it is 
way too easy to undeliberately destroy the logging configuration.
Maybe someone could have a look? I am not feeling familiar enough with the code 
base to apply a patch here but my first analysis is available at

Release Sling 9?

Hi,

I have a feeling that with all the release work going on it's a good
time to kick off the release process.

We have - by my count 

- 3 bundles under vote
- 5 bundles with SNAPSHOT versions in the launchpad
- 1 bundle which should be released and included in the Launchpad

Piece of cake :-)

My suggestion is that we:

- conclude all running votes
- start release votes for all SNAPSHOT dependencies
- no longer include any new SNAPSHOT dependencies in the launchpad
unless we consider it a release blocker

More details:

1. Bundles under vote:

- Apache Sling Commons Scheduler 2.6.2
- Apache Sling Installer Core 3.8.10
- Apache Sling Authentication Service 1.3.26

Since the votes are started I guess there's no harm in waiting a couple
more days.

2. Unreleased bundles in launchpad:

- org.apache.sling/org.apache.sling.commons.log/5.0.1-SNAPSHOT [1]
- org.apache.sling/org.apache.sling.engine/2.6.7-SNAPSHOT [2]
- org.apache.sling/org.apache.sling.launchpad.content/2.0.9-SNAPSHOT

anyone think any of these bundles should need more work or can I just
start the release votes?

- see my email at [6], I think we should release the installer content
package support bundle and include it in the launchpad.
- should we wait for a resolution of the 'Address Launchpad homepage
information architecture' issue? [7] . I think it would be a great
addition, but depends on how much we need/want to wait.

FWIW I updated org.apache.sling.engine to 2.6.7-SNAPSHOT yesterday to make sure 
we detect SLING-6675 but if we need to downgrade to 2.6.6 that should be fine.

we are far behind our plan for the sling 9 release (obviously everyone was busy 
elsewhere).

i've updated the ticket SLING-6194 with a list of whats really open of the 
current launchpad. it looks to me that a lot of issues are no real blocker and 
could be moved to the next sling release. perhaps we can then focus on whats 
really left and get the release out.

can everyone have look at the list of open issues (total: 9) and if he thinks 
this is not a blocker move it the the next release of the bundle, or downgrade 
the bundle to the latest release?

I think most of the bundles with snapshot reference in our launchpad can
be released. Not sure about the repository bundles.
And we definitely need to wait a little bit with jcr.resource until the
missing pieces are implemented in Oak. But hopefully this will be done soon.

What about adding the Slingshot sample app? It would need a little bit
of work to move it to the repoinit, but I could probably work on this.
The app itself is atm not really best practice and I have a lot of ideas
on how to get it right, but still I think it's one of our better examples.

Time to release Sling 9

Hi,

2016 is almost done and Sling 9 is not yet out. Given that we're now
aiming for quarterly Sling releases, it's time to start practicing :-)

I've outlined a list of tasks which should be done for the release, see

It's just a beginning, and if you think that there are more things
which need to be included for the release just include a sub-task.

Call to action
--

- if you think that there are changes to be done for the release, go
ahead and create a sub-task and "just do it"
- if you see any task that might be interesting for you to pick up,
"just do it" :-)
- if you've worked on something cool for the next release of the
Launchpad and think we should let the world know about it, add it to
[1] or just tag the Jira issue with 'Sling-9-ReleaseNotes'

We may or may not switch to the 'stable' Launchpad model for this
release, but in the meantime it's good to keep the releases rolling. We
currently have 15 -SNAPSHOT bundles in the main launchpad, so that's
quite some work in progress.

My aim is to have the launchpad out in November, as I have a feeling
December is not a very productive time of the year. Also, not very
fruitful for making noise about a new release.
