This seems to have been started (the current wiki content is under
http://struts.apache.org/2.x/docs/ ) but links (such as 'Tag
Reference' on the menu) still point to http://struts.apache.org/WW and
an old version of the wiki from Nov 17th is still there.

.htaccess needs
Redirect permanent /WWhttp://struts.apache.org/2.x/docs
then the old copy can be deleted and the menu links no longer need to
be absolute.

Rainer, you're the man!

Though, that's somethign that would not be affected by what I'm doing
now. If you want to go ahead and attach that to the Confluence page,
please do. (If you need karma, let me know.)

I think it belongs under 2.x.

We've said we will host the archived website for GA versions. How is
that going to work if the exported docs aren't underneath 2.x?

The main problem I'm having is searching all of the Struts 2
documentation. Google's site search only allows one URL, for example
"action site:struts.apache.org/2.x". (I tried using site: twice and
using delimiters with no luck.) [1] [2]

[1] Actually it doesn't look like the exported site is getting indexed at all:
http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Astruts.apache.org%2FWW

[2] The Google site search on the s2 documentation wiki uses
'site:struts.apache.org' which brings back too much unrelated
information about 1.x

[S2] Where's the site?

2006-11-13 Thread Ted Husted

The Struts 2 documentation is being maintained under Confluence, on
the ASF machine known as Brutus (aka cwiki.apache.org, among others).
There's an "autoexport" plugin there that creates and updates a static
HTML site each time we make an edit with Confluence. We had been
linking from our main website to the autoexport site on Brutus.

Our main website is staged on another machine (Minotaur, aka
people.apache.org), and then synched hourly with the public website,
struts.apache.org.

We're now synching a folder in our staging area with the autoexport
folder on Brutus. As a result, we can create relative links to
autoexport content, rather than embed links to another server.

The downside is that there is some latency while the pages make their
way from Brutus to Minotaur, and ultimately to the main web site.
However, the autoexport site on Brutus remains up to date, so if you
are doing some editing, you can still browse Brutus to see the live
changes (or the changes that will be live).

The editing version on Brutus is here:

* http://cwiki.apache.org/WW/home.html

The corollary on the main site is here:

* http://struts.apache.org/WW/home.html

I was tempted to put the WW folder under 2.x, but this way, it's
easier to switch back and forth between Brutus and the live site.

The grisly details are that Jeff Turner is rsyncing the entire
Confluence export site to a folder under his home directory. A cron
job is running under my account that rsync's the jefft copy with our
copy under /www/struts.apache.org/WW.

For extra credit, another cron job is zipping up the WW site every
night, so that it can be downloaded and extracted into a distribution.
The script is under /www/struts.apache.org, and committers can run it
any time to get the latest bundle.

There are also setup notes on the main cwiki home page.
