Re: Update weex descriptions on Apache site

2019-02-21 Thread 申远
Sadly, the website [1] is still outdated. For example the mentors
information in weex.xml[2] are up to date, which should only include Willem
Jiang and Myrle Krantz, but the web site still lists the original mentors.

BTW, is https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/public/trunk/build.sh
the file you mentioned above? If so, I can't checkout that, as the
directory of trunk took me 10GB hard disk space, and was still growing. I
have just checkout
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/public/trunk/content/projects ,
which is a much smaller directory.

Re: Update weex descriptions on Apache site

2019-02-21 Thread Willem Jiang
Hi,

I just checked the website, the changes are updated. I'm not sure if the
build is triggered by hand.
BTW, you can run the build.sh from the project to verify if the xml
document changes are OK.

Re: Update weex descriptions on Apache site

2019-02-21 Thread 申远
Wired things happened.

The source file[1] is already updated, but the website[2] isn't. Do I need
trigger a build for the website?

BTW: How do we start vote for changes on SVN? There is no such thing called
push or PR on SVN. After I had entered "svn commit", it just pushed to the
server automatically, which give me a big surprise.

Re: [DISCUSS] Language used in Mail/Github/etc..

2019-02-21 Thread Myrle Krantz
This is just my personal opinion, but:

I'd talk about development in English, but answer users in Chinese if they
ask their question in Chinese. I know that makes for some awkward
transitions since the shift between explaining something to a user, and
recognizing an area where improvement is needed is sometimes gradual. But
some users won't speak English, and you want to be able to help them, or
capture their needs. Google translate is something anyone can do after the
fact too, and translations are constantly improving, so why freeze the
translation in time?

If you'd like more opinions (and can accept that they are likely to be
contradictory : o), consider asking the incubator community at large.

Best Regards,
Myrle

Ha, good that you got some practice in then - you will probably also need
SVN to publish the releases to be voted on ;)

(Using TortoiseSVN for me was a really nostalgic moment. So many years
working with that software - all forgotten now)

2019-02-21 Thread Jan Piotrowski
Difficult situation.

Apache projects definitely use English as the default language, but
with an existing userbase that is used to create issue in Chinese,
this would be negative to enforce.

I saw some people using Google Translate to translate the question,
then repost the question in English before answering. That makes it
clear(er), that English is the preferred language and also allows
people like me to participate.

Then you can answer in English and optionally also include an
automated translation again.
If you know both languages, then you can quickly check of the
translations make sense.

I on the other hand, would probably just answer in English and leave
the translation up to the user as I have no grasp at all of Chinese.

It might help to make more people create English issues by mentioning
that English issues are preferred in
https://github.com/apache/incubator-weex/blob/master/.github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/bug-report.md

What do you think how many of the users actually have no understanding
of English?
