Re: Seeking primary maintainer for LLVM

2013-02-25 Thread Jens Petersen
Thank Michel,

I will be reducing my involvement in packaging LLVM -- I am no longer
regularly using it, the work required to keep it up-to-date is
relatively straightforward, but there are several deficiencies that I
feel others are better positioned to address:

I am happy to help maintain package for now as a comaintainer at least.
I am not really a llvm/clang user either - my main motivation for
using/fixing it so far is that ghc uses llvm as a backend on ARM.

Let me know if you're interested, and I'll release the package then.

I think it would be best if someone who is actively using
llvm and clang directly and familiar with it and upstream
maintained the package but if noone wants to maintain it right now
I can help to maintain it for the time being at least.

Thanks for Michel for maintaining it for a long time.

Looking over guake, I believe it just requires *a* notification daemon;
Pierre-Yves can say for sure. gnome-session looks obsolete, and the
nodoka theme could obviously be removed with it.

Christoph may be able to speak to what LXDE could do with an alternate
notification daemon, but he's travelling at least today.

SCM request not quite complete?

2013-02-25 Thread Jamie Nguyen
Hi Jon (and list),

I opened an SCM request here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=910142

The master branch seems fine. I've cloned, imported and built
nodejs-send for rawhide. However, I can't switch to f18 branch:

  $ fedpkg switch-branch f18
Could not execute switch_branch: Unknown remote branch f18

The message on the bug report says:

 Complete, clearing flag.

It turns out the SCM request may have been cancelled half-way or something:

 jamieli...@fedoraproject.org's request for fedora-cvs:

I didn't get any [pkgdb] emails about nodejs-send, but it is on pkgdb:

Not sure what happened here?

 Hi,
since we opened the question of the most buggy applications I would

reports. It actually doesn't show the most buggy applications, but
 the
number of crashes per application encountered by users in some period
 of

 https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/problems/hot/

The goal of this project is to help developers to prioritize their
 work,
so the most popular bugs gets the proper attention.

 --Jirka

As an example, this has 3000 counted crashes (just 1500 on the overview page,
maybe a bug):
https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/problems/20295/
but the bugzilla itself has just 22 people CC'd.

Even worse for this one:
https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/problems/57483/
3000 counted crashes, but 11 people CC'd.

Are you going to let bugzilla maintainers know somehow? I would assume that
once the crash count surpasses a certain threshold, you could add a comment to
the bugzilla report:

This has crashed for 100 users, see [FAF URL] for details.
This has crashed for 1000 users, see [FAF URL] for details.

Yeah, I can take this on. I will caution that most bugs in any of the

for arch-specific bugs. (And that I am absolutely _not_ owning it in

system freezes after loading gdm/gnome

2013-02-25 Thread Jan Dvořák
Hi,

I am running rawhide for fun and since a few days ago a few seconds
after starting gdm the whole system freezes. I am sorry that I can't
really pinpoint the exact update as I suspend and this only manifested
after a reboot.

The problem is that I don't get any logs and running startx with
exec gnome-session in .xinitrc leads to the exactly same problem.

Interestingly, if I run just gnome-terminal from my .xinitrc,
close it and then re-run with full gnome-session, I get the shell
and everything seems to work. Well, except it is somewhat sluggish,
suggesting some hidden breakage.

2013-02-25 Thread Ozan Çağlayan
I am running rawhide for fun and since a few days ago a few seconds
after starting gdm the whole system freezes. I am sorry that I can't
really pinpoint the exact update as I suspend and this only manifested
 after a reboot.

As usual, I have completely forgotten any relevant system/software info, so:

This is a Thinkpad T420 with:

The Xorg.0.log is attached as well as `rpm -qa` output.

The system was originally F18, but I decided to upgrade to rawhide.
I am going to try clean rawhide install on another LV.

No, not really. Just a black screen, possibly with the frozen cursor
if it manages to show up at all.

Intel driver? I've seen those as well. Trying rolling back to the last
update that included a new cogl and let us know whether that fixes it.

The problem is that I don't get any logs and running startx with
exec gnome-session in .xinitrc leads to the exactly same problem.

Xorg -configure
and move the generated xorg.conf file to /etc/X11 and change the intel
driver to modesetting and it should be enough to at least get a
graphical interface.

Interestingly, if I run just gnome-terminal from my .xinitrc,
close it and then re-run with full gnome-session, I get the shell
and everything seems to work. Well, except it is somewhat sluggish,
 suggesting some hidden breakage.

Re: SWAT will be removed from the Samba package

 Hello,

Suite. SWAT is unmaintained and has the most security bugs.

Andrew, I'm in that thread on the Samba mailing list at
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2013-February/171643.html. I
don't see an actual decision there, just a call for discussion. Also,
if you decide to remove the samba-swat package from the samba suite,
should it be obsoleted or merely reported as conflicting with new
samba-common releases, to make sure people delete it before doing
upgrades and getting in dependency trouble? It might even be better
pulled as part of the next Samba 4.0.4 package.

And while you're in that package: I've got rewrite of the .spec file
and the other dependencies for RHEL compatibility of 4.0.3. It's up at
https://github.com/nkadel/samba-4.0.3-srpm/, along with RPM building
tools for all the other dependencies below:

iniparser # not in RHEL
krb5 # Version 1.10 in RHEL 6.4 is good enough

libtalloc
libtdb
libldb
libtevent

I plan to remove the samba-swat subpackage in Fedora 18, 19 and rawhide as
soon as it gets removed from the current Samba development tree.

 Cheers,

Seeing this also. Rawhide up-to-date with stock ati driver on RV 630.
X seems to be eating up cpu cycles during sluggishness.

don't see an actual decision there, just a call for discussion. Also,
if you decide to remove the samba-swat package from the samba suite,
should it be obsoleted or merely reported as conflicting with new
samba-common releases, to make sure people delete it before doing
upgrades and getting in dependency trouble? It might even be better
pulled as part of the next Samba 4.0.4 package.

That's why I stated below that I will remove it when it gets removed in the
Samba development tree upstream.

I will handle the correct deinstallation of samba-swat when it gets removed
but thanks for the idea with handling it in samba-common.

I'm sure it will take some time till it gets removed.

And while you're in that package: I've got rewrite of the .spec file
and the other dependencies for RHEL compatibility of 4.0.3. It's up at
 https://github.com/nkadel/samba-4.0.3-srpm/, along with RPM building
tools for all the other dependencies below:

 iniparser # not in RHEL
krb5 # Version 1.10 in RHEL 6.4 is good enough

 libtalloc
 libtdb
 libldb
 libtevent

I've removed everything for older version on purpose to have a clean spec
file. We decided not to support RHEL6 with this.

eliminate biosdevname, be able to disable systemd/udevd naming, and
have the default be possible on a per-system-vendor basis, and solve
the NPAR/SR-IOV/Mellanox naming problems, then I can support this
proposal. Without fixing these shortcomings though, my customers will
have a fit at me.

If you're agreeing that biosdevname should be limited to type9/type41
(if I'm reading you right), and if the systemd/udev names still use those
fields, what parts of biosdevname are you still requiring? The actual
   namespace used, or something else?

I'd prefer if we didn't force users through another namespace change.
I took a lot of flack for changing the namespace once. From their
perspective, it's still udev doing the renaming, only now the code
moved from a udev helper into udev itself.

True; the users likely don't care other than how they enable/disable it.

I'd like to see the SR-IOV NPAR devices handled. Those aren't
represented in type9/type41, and their commonplace on Dell systems.

I'd like to see the Dell-specific PCI VPD-R code from biosdevname
included in udev, as that's used to map multi-port devices to port
numbers. Those aren't represented in type9/type41, and they're
  commonplace on Dell systems.

 OK.

I'd like to see kernel driver work to be sure every multi-port driver
with the same PCI b/d/b/f sets dev_id. That isn't necessarily true
today, which makes it hard to trust. biosdevname needs this too,
until such a time as it's dead.

Do we have a list of these, or is it a matter of doing a driver audit?
 CC'ing gospo.

(Thanks, Bill, though I've been following this thread as I am on the
list).

Right now almost no drivers actually set dev_id. In fact mlx4_en,
cxgb4, and sfc seem to be the only ones right now. If we feel like this
a requirement there will be work on the kernel side to add this.

So, aside from the naming convention change (which, hey, if someone
else takes the pain for making that change again, not me or my company
  - go nuts!), the rest is straightforward technical and code can be
cribbed if desired from biosdevname or just rewritten.

OK, thanks. Let's see what we can do here. My concern is the conflict
between trying to cover all of the cases, and trying to avoid writing
documentation that is a lot of if your device is hereh, then your
name is Y or Z depending on which commandline you booted with when you
 installed.'

There are still reports of it, so I don't think it is.

IMHO, we should remove the web login entirely. There's only one thing
it can do that the cli cannot (watch a packages builds if you are not
a maintainer of that package), and that can be done several other ways:

subscribe to the rss feed of builds and filter out packages you are
interested, or just watch the fedmsg bus for any packages you are
interested in, or just add yourself to watchcommits and when you see a
commit you can be somewhat sure there's a build around the corner.

In any case, please just use the cli for now and when Dennis is back he
can look at fixing it up or removing it.
