[389-devel] Thoughts on swapping to rfc2307bis.ldif by default

2020-03-01 Thread William Brown
Hi all,

As you may know, I'm currently working on a migration utility to help move from
other ldap servers to 389-ds. Something that I have noticed in this process is
that other servers default to rfc2307bis.ldif [0] by default. As part of the
migration I would like to handle this situation a bit better. It's likely not
viable for me to simply plaster rfc2307bis into 99user.ldif as part of the
migration process, so I want to approach this better.

rfc2307 and rfc2307bis are incompatible schemas that redefine the same OIDs
with new/different meanings. Some key examples:

* posixGroup in rfc2307 only requires gidNumber, rfc2307bis requires cn and
gidNumber.
* ipServiceProtocol, ipHostNumber, ipNetworkNumber and nisMapName change from
"sup name" to "syntax 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.15". sup name is also syntax
1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.15 so this channge is minimal.
* posixGroup and posixAccount change from structural to auxillary in rfc2307bis
(allowing them to be combined with person or nsAccount).

Objectively, rfc2307bis is the better schema - but as with all proposals like
this, there is always a risk of breaking customers or compatibility.

I'm wondering what would be a reasonable course of action for us to move to
rfc2307bis by default. My current thoughts:

* have rfc2307bis vs rfc2307 as an option to dssetup so we use the correct
schema in the setup.
* default the setup option to rfc2307bis
* Tests for handling both setup options
* Upgrades of the server should not affect the rfc2307 vs rfc2307bis status
* A dsctl tool to allow changing between the rfc2307/rfc2307bis.

Thoughts? Concern? Ideas? Comments?

[Test-Announce] 2020-03-02 @ 17:00 UTC - Fedora 32 Blocker Review Meeting

# F32 Blocker Review meeting
# Date: 2020-03-02
# Time: 17:00 UTC
# Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.freenode.net

Hi folks! We have 1 proposed Beta blocker, 5 proposed Beta freeze
exceptions, and 1 proposed Final blocker to review, so let's have a
Fedora 32 blocker review meeting tomorrow!

If you have time today, you can take a look at the proposed or
accepted blockers before the meeting - the full lists can be found
here: https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/ .

We'll be evaluating these bugs to see if they violate any of the
Release Criteria and warrant the blocking of a release if they're not
fixed. Information on the release criteria for F32 can be found on the
wiki [0].

For more information about the Blocker and Freeze exception process,
check out these links:
 - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:SOP_freeze_exception_bug_process

And for those of you who are curious how a Blocker Review Meeting
works - or how it's supposed to go and you want to run one - check out
the SOP on the wiki:

Have a good day and see you tomorrow!

I want both "medical-sig" and "biology" group.

"medical-sig" group is to manage and list all packages managed at
medical sig with FAS group "medical-packagers-sig".
It's like "go-sig".
https://koschei.fedoraproject.org/groups/go-sig

"biology" group is just to manage and list the sub category biology of
the medical packages.
It's like "ruby-rails". I do not need the FAS group.
https://koschei.fedoraproject.org/groups/ruby-rails

It might be used as the group install.

For some reason, stime works in all arches except in arm. Any hint?

I'm not sure why as stime as been deprecated in glibc so shouldn't
be available to use on any architecture.

The code needs to be updated to use clock_settime instead.

Adding Medical SIG package group and including bio-tech, biology

2020-03-01 Thread Jun Aruga
Hi,

There are 3 topics for the Fedora Medical SIG in this email.

## Creating RPM group: medical-sig

I would like to add "medical-sig" to the RPM groups that is listed on
the page below.
https://koschei.fedoraproject.org/groups
Someone do you know how to create the group?

## Including bio-tech to Medical SIG

Seeing the SIG's wiki page, right now Medical SIG is for
Doctor/Dentist's healthcare system specific.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/FedoraMedical

I want to update the Medical SIG's wiki page including bio-tech,
biology content.
In my opinion, a challenge for the medical, biology communities is the
sustainability.
Each medical and bio package maintainer in Fedora tends to manage
their RPM packages in individual level.
I want to make the Medical SIG the inclusive place the place to
communicate and work collaboratively for the RPM packages.

A good role model for the concept of Medical SIG is Debian Med team.
https://wiki.debian.org/DebianMed
> The Debian Med project prepares packages that are associated with medicine,
> pre-clinical research, and life sciences. Its developments are mostly focused
> on three areas for the moment: medical practice, imaging and bioinformatics.

I want to adapt the concept to Fedora Medical SIG.

https://blends.debian.org/med/tasks/
Biology is the sub category of the Medical in the Debian Med project.

Well, for example working for creating a yogurt that has a strength
for the disease sequencing the yogurt bacteria genome is not medical.
But aligning with Debian Medical project is still meaningful for me.

Any thoughts?

## Promotion!

If you are interested in Medical/Biology, please join us to Medical SIG!
It's a very moderate traffic group right now.

Succinct, but true.

To give a concrete example: foo-99-1 is in current rawhide and F32
branches. In rawhide, the mass rebuild happens, but so we get foo-99-2.
But this is a noarch package and foo-99-1.fc32 and foo-99-2.fc33 are
effectively identical, despite having different NVr
(where "r" is just the number part without the dist tag).
Now a bug reported that only affects F32 or the maintainer rebuilds in
F32 only. A rebuild with the fix is labelled foo-99-2.fc32. Now the
packages are functionally different, despite having same NVr.

(And this is all correct packaging, according to update guidelines.
The upgrade path is preserved at all times, and that is the only thing
that is required.)

So yeah, I stand by my original statement that
> The numbers in different branches cannot
> be meaningfully compared. Those numbers only make sense in the context
> of a specific branch, so they should be ordered after .
