No, I haven't done this (been considering it though for a project). But
if I wanted to not use NM for IPv6 PD, I just wouldn't use NM for IPv6
PD at all (not use it for part and then try to pass the info out). So
do it like the ifcfg scripts, I guess using dhclient and radvd.

But, for that matter, I have no idea how ifcfg handles it, since I can't
find any documentation about it. The only references to radvd in the
ifcfg doc are for 6to4/PPP. Which is part of the problem with the ifcfg
scripts anyway - there's a pile of undocumented functionality with
hard-coded assumptions (like, what if I want to use some other software
for IPv6 PD). At least with NM, the docs are better (IMHO), the UI is
better, and the dispatcher is flexible for many more situations.

It might be a good feature request for NM to export PD info, since it's
not listed in the NM-dispatcher man page.

Self Introduction: XingHong Chen

2022-01-06 Thread Chen, Xinghong
Hello all:

I'm Xinghong from the Intel NPG-QAT team. I'm very interested in becoming a
Fedora package Co-maintainer. My responsibility is to upgrade and maintain the
"QATzip" package.

Here is the brief summary about QATzip:

"QATzip is a user space library which builds on top of the Intel(r) QuickAssist
Technology user space library, to provide extended accelerated compression and
decompression services by offloading the actual compression and decompression
request(s) to the Intel(r) Chipset Series. QATzip produces data using the
standard gzip* format (RFC1952) with extended headers. The data can be
decompressed with a compliant gzip* implementation. QATzip is designed to take
full advantage of the performance provided by Intel(r) QuickAssist Technology."

It's very glad to join Fedora community. Also a little bit information about
myself:

I have been a Software Engineer in Intel for 2 years since my graduation.
During these years, I have built up a range of technical skills and domain
knowledge in the Deep learning compiler, Intel GPU architecture validation, and
Video codec. I enjoy exploring the new technologies and learning cutting-edge
compute science knowledge. Also, I'm very easygoing and kindly man.

Re: Self Introduction: Malcolm Inglis (mcinglis)

2022-01-06 Thread Inglis, Malcolm via devel
Well, turns out https://pagure.io/packager-sponsors isn't allowing PRs.

I've pushed to a branch here with updates and dead-link-fixes for the README:
https://pagure.io/fork/mcinglis/packager-sponsors/tree/pr-readme-update

@Kevin Fenzi , you're welcome to pull that (or use it) into the repo if you
think it looks good. Aside link fixes, it conditionalizes the blurb about
"don't apply for sponsorship unless you have packages that have gone through
package review process", which I think is what deterred me here.

Cheers,
Malcolm

PyPy3.8 now available

2022-01-06 Thread Miro Hrončok

Hello Pythonistas.

PyPy3.8 is now available in Fedora.

On rawhide, when you dnf install pypy3, or when you run the pypy3 command, you
will get PyPy3.8. PyPy3.7 is still available for the time being (pypy3.7
package and command).

On Fedora 35, when you dnf install pypy3, or when you run the pypy3 command,
you will still get PyPy3.7. pypy3.8 package will be available from updates
testing when the build finishes and I'll create the bodhi update.

On Fedora 34, when you dnf install pypy3, or when you run the pypy3 command,
you will still get PyPy3.6. pypy3.8 package will be available in updates
testing soon: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2022-8e29bfb393

What would you need in order to be able to migrate to systemctl? Could
the dbus daemon or systemd generate the necessary audit records? Or could
auditctl handle everything itself, perhaps by talking to auditd over a
socket instead of sending a signal?

auditd(8) lists 5 signals… This should be doable in two dozen lines.
This would cover the requirement to have those direct invocations logged.

There are two ways to look at this: one way is that people interact with
auditd from the commandline and the script that was discussed above is a good
replacement that provides ~same functionality as what we have now.

Another way is to say that people interact with auditd through systemd,
and since the dbus api is open, there is an infinite number of ways to
call it, including systemctl, systemctl -M (injection into a container),
systemctl -H (ssh into another machine), the KDE systemd graphical wrapper
that I forgot how is called, busctl call, pydbus scripting.

While at least theoretically we could implement direct sending of signals
in systemctl, this would do nothing for the other approaches. And we certainly
are not going to implement direct sending of signals in those other places,
it wouldn't even be possible for the non-local transports.

Since auditd is started by systemd, you just _have_ to trust systemd.
If control over the manager is lost, the manager can just do anything
it wants, masquerading as any user. So the logging provided by recording
of the direct signal is only a "good will" effort, fairly easy to spoof
if you've actually gained some inappropriate privileges. The logging
that systemd does is effectively just as trustworthy as the audit log
as long as the system integrity is maintained.

So I think the approach with the script is good because it satisfies the
requirements, as far as they made sense when they were formulated. It could
never cover the more modern dbus-based approaches anyway.

Fwd: Python SIG at Fedora Council Video Meeting

2022-01-06 Thread Miro Hrončok

Hello, does anybody want to take this? If not, I will.

 Forwarded Message
Subject:Python SIG at Fedora Council Video Meeting
Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2022 16:06:17 -0500
From: Tom Callaway
To: Miro Hrončok

Miro, I know you're in the Python SIG, please forward this on as needed.

The Fedora Council would like to invite your SIG to present at an upcoming
Fedora Council video meeting. If you're interested, what we'd be looking for
from you is:

  * Someone to present (on camera in a virtual meeting room) a 10-15 minute
presentation (with slides) on the state of your SIG (past, present, future)
along with any calls to action that you might have.
  * Stick around for 15+ minutes for Q discussion

These meetings are recorded and then shared on
youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnIfca4LPFVn8-FjpPVc1ow

A small FAQ:

Q. When are these meetings held?
A. The video meetings are held monthly, on a Thursday, between 1800 - 1900 UTC.

Q. Do we have to do this?
A. No. It is an opportunity we're making available to you, but if you don't
want to (or cannot), feel free to decline (or ignore this email).

Q. Would the meeting be all about our SIG?
A. We also use some time to discuss council business, but you'd be the guest(s)
of honor.

Q. Okay, we're in. How do I sign-up?
A. You reply to this email and say "Our SIG would love to do this!" and I'll
get you scheduled.

Q. I have other questions, who can I ask?
A. You can ask me! You now have my email, or you can find me any of the other
obvious places I have presence on the internet and ask me there.

Thanks,
Tom "spot" Callaway, on behalf of the Fedora Council

Re: Self Introduction: Malcolm Inglis (mcinglis)

2022-01-06 Thread Inglis, Malcolm via devel
Thanks, Fabio!

I'm sorry I missed the process to cut a ticket in packager-sponsors. I've done
that now: https://pagure.io/packager-sponsors/issue/511

That doc page was one of the few I was bouncing around until I opted to email
this list. That page linked to the repo's README, which then linked "Procedure
for new packagers" to
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join_the_package_collection_maintainers , which
linked back to the original doc page. That page had a section on "How to find a
sponsor", which seemed to imply I'd need to find a sponsor to volunteer
*before* moving ahead. Meanwhile, I noticed that several 'Self Introduction'
emails on this list had sought and received sponsorship, so I figured this was
a way that would work.

It may help if said doc page elaborated the process, perhaps by describing an
example request, and if the README on `packager-sponsors` was also elaborated
and updated to not link to dead wikis. I can try to send some PRs to help out
there.

I understood why `packager` membership is required for various infrastructure
access; it makes perfect sense to avoid managing
effectively-free-world-writable storage :) I don't believe I raised any
contention there. The PR that Maxwell linked seems very appealing, though. It
would be great if PRs with new sources from non-packager-members could pass CI
without any action from maintainers.

The problem that Maxwell raised about sources updates is not one that I've
experienced. I've had a PR with new sources be accepted as-is just fine (
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-prompt-toolkit/pull-request/1 ). It's
just that the CI run was failing (as per state of my other outstanding PRs)
until the maintainer stepped in.

Cheers,
Malcolm

P.S. my apologies for letting my corporate mailserver rules mess up the thread
subject by adding '[EXTERNAL]'. I'll try to catch that in future.

In essense, yeah. But there are a lot more signals than just SIGTERM and as I
said before, the systemd crowd has done such a good job taking over this
space that everyone will start asking that this be migrated to systemctl so
there is one and only one way to do things.

Yep, that is the crux of the problem.

This is the two generals problem. (How do you know the message really came
from the other general when it traveled through hostile territory?)

> This is the problem that need to be solved to get rid of audit's use of

There have been several proposals. One is that systemctl could check a config
file and see that it needs to send a signal and which one. Another is systemd
could look it up in the unit files and answer back that systemctl should send
a signal instead.

That's a new one. :-)

I'm afraid that would require knowing which sockets are part of the dbus comm
system and its protocol. Parsing dbus messages in the kernel is not something
the upstream kernel maintainers will take lightly. I'd expect pushback on
that.

Cheers,
-Steve

Re: F36 Change: DIGLIM (System-Wide Change proposal)

2022-01-06 Thread Chris Murphy
Could this feature work with 3rd party kernel modules, in a UEFI
Secure Boot (and thus kernel lockdown) context?

Workstation working group is tracking this problem as
https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/155

If DIGLIM could be used for this use case, I further wonder whether
it's possible to have multiple signatures for different portions of a
kernel module? The purpose, is so NVIDIA can sign their proprietary
binary blob (because it's theirs, no one else's, and therefore they
should sign it). Next, either (a) Fedora (b) RPM Fusion (c) the user,
can sign the remainder of the kernel module (the parts that are open
source anyway). It's an open question who could or should sign
NVIDIA's key, to narrowly indicate trust. And also a mechanism for
revoking that trust without breaking everything else.

I do not believe this is currently usable for audit because the
information on who requested to kill the process is lost this way.

In terms of audit you can audit that user XYZ ran /usr/bin/stop-audit,
however the process that actually then kills the audit daemon will not
have the magic markers in the kernel side and will instead be the
systemd process.

This breaks the audit log chain, as there is no way to audit that
systemd is operating on behalf of that user. The audit trail chain is
broken by the systemcl -> systemd jump.

This is the problem that need to be solved to get rid of audit's use of
shell scripts that directly perform operations wrt the kernel.

I wonder if another option is to have the audit code in the kernel
intercept systemcl messages sent to systemd and interpret the commands
and log what they are asking ...

I believe the problem is that it is not just a fire and forget signal,
any kernel syscall can be traced back to that user by this method, so
anything the "scripts" do can be audited.

I am afraid the hurdle, so far, is that there is a belief that the only
way to get valid audit logs when systemd-init is involved is to trust
the whole of it, which would require the development of a whole trusted
audit subsystem/hand-off within systemd.

I think that potentially one option would be to provide a kernel audit
API that systemd could be trusted to use to set the user ids so that
the audit subsystem is given those when there is the systemctl ->
systemd hand-off.

But that requires the audit and systemd teams to agree on what that
trust and those controls means, and figure out how to comply to all
regulations in the process of adding this stuff. This is probably no
small feat.

Right, so is /usr/bin/stop-audit with the following contents the solution:
---
#!/bin/sh
set -e
exec kill $(systemctl show -P MainPID auditd)
---
?

Yes, obviously the user is outside of the machine and "user" always
means some program running under the UID assigned to the user.
All I'm trying to say is that if you can make one implementation of this
program (e.g. a set of bash scripts) send some bit of information, you can
make another implementation send the same signal.

Yes, systemctl doesn't save this information. So audit uses some
alternative command to send this information somewhere. This
alternative command should just send this bit of information where appropriate
and then call systemctl. More-or-less as things are now, but without
the initscripts baggage.

If there's a need to add something to systemctl or systemd, we can do
it. But it's never been clearly articulated afaik.
