Can confirm that the badge link now works as expected, thank you!

The badge error, I  have created the claim link and my interface says it's
valid for 11 more days (set to 31st May). I've also sent it to Kevin who's
helping me massively by looking into it on the backend and making sure it's
still valid and it seems in working order. I've also added to every active
ballot box, the same link, so at this point I am going to hope it will continue
to work.

For folks who didn't get a badge, can you retry please? And if no success
still, just email me directly and I will award you one through that way.

Yes, we are aware. What's not clear is how or why that has happened.

Either way, the link will be updated again soon. After that we'll know

[HEADS-UP] Upcoming Rust SIG mini-mass-rebuild

2024-05-20 Thread Fabio Valentini
Hi all,

As discussed in the Fedora Rust channel on Matrix, I am planning to do
a mini-mass-rebuild of all Rust applications (that are co-maintained
by the Rust SIG), likely by the end of this week. I estimate that it
will involve just shy of 200 packages per branch.

The motivation for a mini-mass-rebuild is two-fold:

1. Until very recently, the Rust standard library (shipped as a static
archive by the "rust" package) was accidentally shipped with stripped
debuginfo, which resulted in Rust applications that linked the
standard library to have incomplete debuginfo - and as a result, they
produced incomplete backtraces for any stack traces that involved the
Rust standard library. This has been fixed since rust 1.78, but
applications need to be rebuilt to pick up this improvement.

2. I regularly rebuild applications for "major" / "high priority"
security issues in Rust crates, but there are a few accumulated
"minor" / "low priority" security issues where I didn't yet have the
time to rebuild the affected applications against the library versions
that contain the necessary fixes. A mini-mass-rebuild would take care
of all of these at the same time.

I plan to only rebuild Rust applications that are associated with the
Rust SIG (i.e. packages "rust-*"), but no other packages (for example,
firefox, thunderbird, or librsvg2). If any maintainers of packages
that contain Rust code but that are not co-maintained by the Rust SIG
would like their packages to be included in the mini-mass-rebuild as
well, just let me know and I'll add them to my list.

Fabio

PS: Packages that build with vendored Rust dependencies (there are a
handful of them, and most are not co-maintained by the Rust SIG) would
only benefit from better debuginfo / backtraces, but not from security
updates (that would require manually updating the vendor tarball),
which is why I will not include them in the mini-mass-rebuild.

rpm-ostree, dnf and bootc in a bootable containers world

2024-05-20 Thread Joseph Marrero
Greetings!

With all the updates that have happened with Ostree Native Containers
and Atomic desktops, we wanted to share some initial thoughts on the
direction for evolving the user experience of image-based systems and
what that means for the packages and projects that provide the
foundation for this technology.

The main tool to manage packages and upgrades on ostree systems has
been rpm-ostree. With the introduction of OSTree Native Containers and
CoreOS layering (https://github.com/coreos/layering-examples),
rpm-ostree turned into a system that also managed container-native
image upgrades and deployments. This gave us an opportunity to
reconsider `dnf` for image-based systems, a tool that Fedora system
administrators are accustomed to manage the RPM packages and introduce
`bootc`, a new tool to boot containers and manage image-based Fedora
deployments.

Rough consensus was forming around these points:

On the short-term:

* dnf4 & dnf5 should provide a more helpful error when a user types
`dnf install` on a booted image-based system (pointing them to unlock
the system or use rpm-ostree).
* `bootc` (https://github.com/containers/bootc) is now available to
manage the container/image-based lifecyle on Fedora 39 and up hosts.
* No new major development should be done on rpm-ostree; we will
provide fixes and security updates but major development for
client-side features should be directed to `bootc` for container/image
lifecycle management and `dnf` for package management.
* dnf should be used during container builds of image-based Fedora for
most applications and examples.

Long term (Maybe Fedora 43/45 timeframe...):

* rpm-ostree client-side functionality handling package
layering/install/overrides should be folded into dnf. (A *lot* of
details here)
* rpm-ostree will continue to be part of the ostree/ostree-container
base image composes. However this will be re-assessed after dnf has
become the default client-side tool for image-based Fedora systems.

As part of the UX we want dnf to continue to be the tool that
sysadmins see as the way to manage their RPM packages, even on
image-based systems. Some specific features of bootc to manage the
image lifecycle like `bootc upgrade` might be wrapped by `dnf upgrade`
on image mode systems, however we see bootc as the main tool to manage
the image-based hosts' deployments and we don't plan to hide this from
the customers behind dnf.

Our intent with the Fedora Change proposal is to cover the initial UX
changes, add bootc and and re-introduce dnf on image-mode variants.
The new proposal builds on top of functionality added on these
previous enhancements:

* OstreeNativeContainer:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/OstreeNativeContainer
* OstreeNativeContainerStable:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/OstreeNativeContainerStable

If you would like to share feedback you can reach out to us via the
methods outlined at
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/bootc/community/ and you can

On Пан, 20 мая 2024, Pedro Moura wrote:

So far, users can only add just one feed. We didn't know the necessity of
having more than one because we didn't get too many answers in the
research about sub-planets.
If that is an issue, we need to ask for an update in noggin and
consequently fasjson.

Judging by
https://github.com/fedora-infra/freeipa-fas/blob/dev/ipaserver/plugins/baseruserfas.py#L118-L124,
the backend already supports multi-valued fasRssUrl attribute.
'fasrssurl*' is FreeIPA syntax for 'zero or many values'. Indeed,
LDAP 'fasRssUrl` attribute definition lacks SINGLE, so it will be a
multi-valued one.

Noggin has support for lists of values for an attribute and defaults to
a single value. This needs to be fixed for 'rss_url' field in Noggin's
user representation by adding an attr_types override similar to how
'sshpubkeys' and 'gpgkeys' overridden.

So the only visible change needed is probably a Noggin's attr_type
override. fasjson will need a Converter('fasRssURL', multivalued=True)
and that should be enough.

Overall, this looks like a two-line change across two projects.

Thanks for pointing it out, I forgot to delete the Sub-planets drop-down.
Sub-planets were dropped, we did a research and the community voted to drop
sub-planets.
If adding more than one feed is an issue, we need to ask for an update in
noggin and consequently fasjson.

So far, users can only add just one feed. We didn't know the necessity of
having more than one because we didn't get too many answers in the
research about sub-planets.
If that is an issue, we need to ask for an update in noggin and

Yes, it won't be automatically migrated because planet is querying

Review swaps

2024-05-20 Thread Antoine Damhet
Hi everyone,

I have a few packages awaiting reviews. Off course, I am willing to
exchange (yet I'm still new so be gentle :D ).

Two `pass` related packages:
* An audit plugin for the password store to find leaks or weak
  passwords, written in python
  pass-audit: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2249375
* The native agent for browser integration, written in go
  browserpass: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2251506

Woob, a python utilities suite allowing API/command line usage of many
websites that do not provide a public API.

  woob: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2251506

And lastly a synapse (the matrix homeserver) plugin that allows bridges
or bot to authenticate as any user on the homeserver, written in python.

The F38 schedule is now updated
https://fedorapeople.org/groups/schedule/f-38/f-38-key-tasks.html so this
matches the F40 one.

Sorry, I completely missed this mis-match, will take more careful note
about manually syncing schedules if dates change in one that is linked to
another.

2024-05-20 Thread Carlos Rodriguez-Fernandez

Hi all,
I'll be updating libcap to 2.70 in rawhide. It brings the following:

* A minor enhancement to `cap` output
* A new flag `-f` to `setcap`
* Enhancements to the man pages.
* Minor cleanup in pam_cap internals

No lib API changes.

Pagure is still under active development. There was a flurry of commits in

There's been a lot of discussions about it. I believe some of the main
problems are is it's basically unmaintained, it's not adding useful
features and as a result is an overall burden for those running it.

Re: Fedora Elections - Voting is now open!

2024-05-20 Thread Aoife Moloney
There seems to be a larger issue at play with the 'claim' link generation
with Badges too, Sandro has kindly opened a ticket for this
https://github.com/fedora-infra/tahrir/issues/495

Please be prepared for a restart for EPEL elections and once there is a
claim link for voting available I will update the elections app where you
should be able to claim post-voting and email the lists and topic thread
that its up and running.

What a Monday :-/

Thank you all for your patience, its very much appreciated.

2024-05-20 Thread Aoife Moloney
Hi folks,

Apologies for the incorrect badge link. I am working on updating the link
to the 'Claim' one and will email as soon as it's available. With regards
to the EPEL election, I will likely need to restart this voting box when
the issue is resolved. I'm not sure if its FAS related or Wiki related or
both but have a ticket open with infra to investigate
https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/11930.

Thanks for your patience all, will update as soon as I have some resolution
on the issues.

Thank you for the suggestion. I think that with the current state
things are good, so I don't plan to change things, unless we discover
some breakage.

FWIW, add-determinism is fully functional without rpm-build… I expect
that most people who use it would have rpm-build installed, but
I think it's better to not create dependency loops to keep things
flexible.

Hello, there is a "None None" candidate to the EPEL Steering Committee.
The link leads to Troy Dawson (tdawson) interview.

It seems Troy Dawson has not filled in first and last name in FAS, which
is were the information is coming from.

That's also a possible way. Many times defining the reverse dependendency can
be justified as (add-determinism) being a plugin (of rpm-build). It also helps
cleaning useless plugins (add-determinism) when the framework (rpm-build) is
uinstalled.

A drawback is creating dependency loop.

That's not the badges issue tracker. Badges issues are tracked on
Pagure[1]. However, there's nothing to investigate as far as I'm aware.
The link in the voting app is not a claim link. It points to the badge's
landing page.

That last bit doesn't seem to be working. Was the "Claim your I Voted
badge." link always pointing to the URL of the corresponding badge
without any other parameter?

No. Claim links do not point at the badge's landing page. Something went
wrong there and needs to be fixed. Aoife is aware.

For people who have missed out, I think you are able to revisit the
voting app and claim your badge once the link is fixed. If not, the
badge will be awarded to you another way.

Thanks for voting! After all, casting your vote is what's important.
