[Test-Announce] 2020-02-24 @ 17:00 UTC - Fedora 32 Blocker Review Meeting

2020-02-23 Thread Geoffrey Marr
# F32 Blocker Review meeting
# Date: 2020-02-24
# Time: 17:00 UTC
# Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.freenode.net

Hello testers! We have 6 proposed Beta blockers, 1 proposed Beta freeze
exception, and 1 proposed Final blocker to review, so let's have a
Fedora 32 blocker review meeting on Monday!

If you have time today, you can take a look at the proposed or
accepted blockers before the meeting - the full lists can be found
here: https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/ .

We'll be evaluating these bugs to see if they violate any of the
Release Criteria and warrant the blocking of a release if they're not
fixed. Information on the release criteria for F32 can be found on the
wiki [0].

For more information about the Blocker and Freeze exception process,
check out these links:
 - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:SOP_freeze_exception_bug_process

And for those of you who are curious how a Blocker Review Meeting
works - or how it's supposed to go and you want to run one - check out
the SOP on the wiki:

Have a good weekend and see you on Monday!

[Test-Announce] Official Fedora QA Telegram Group

2019-08-29 Thread Geoffrey Marr
Hello testers!

After Flock 2019 this year, it became apparent that there are several folks
who would like to join the testing effort, but do not want to use IRC and
would prefer to communicate over Telegram. Consequently, we have started a
Telegram group that testers can join to communicate with one another!
Please find the link below and add yourself to the group [0].

Note also that the #fedora-qa IRC channel and the Fedora QA Telegram group
have been bridged together, so traffic from one service will appear
seamlessly in the other. This allows current users of IRC to continue to
use their IRC clients as they have been, without missing out on any of the
conversations happening in #fedora-qa, and vice-versa.

Unresponsive Maintainer: Chitlesh Goorah

2019-09-02 Thread Geoffrey Marr
Hi devel-list,

I am trying to contact Chitlesh Goorah [0], as he is the maintainer of the
Fedora Electronics Lab Spin [1]. The spin desperately needs some love and
maintenance. Does anyone know how to contact him? I have reached out to him
three times in total, once in 2016, and again twice in 2019 and haven't
heard back. I have started the unresponsive maintainer process, here is a
link to the Bugzilla bug [2]. After a week of this mail being on the list,
I will open a FESCo ticket.

Thanks,

Re: Unresponsive Maintainer: Chitlesh Goorah

2019-09-02 Thread Geoffrey Marr
Hi Alain,

Great to see there is some interest in the Electronics Lab Spin! Can you
reach out to Chitlesh and see if he is willing to give up his spot as the
maintainer of the group so that the spin can get the maintenance it needs?
If I don't hear from him in a week, I'll just continue through the
unresponsive maintainer process to get access. I would like to first start
by removing some packages that just don't work anymore, and add a few that
could greatly benefit this spin. I would welcome all of your help to get
this done as I am a software engineer by day, hardware hacker by night, so
input from someone who works with hardware on a daily basis would be
invaluable.

# F33 Blocker Review meeting
# Date: 2020-08-03
# Time: 16:00 UTC
# Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.freenode.net

Hello testers!

As of this email, we have four proposed blockers in the works, so let's
meet and knock these (and any others that appear) out!

If you have time this weekend, you can take a look at the proposed or
accepted blockers before the meeting - the full lists can be found
here: https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/ .

We'll be evaluating these bugs to see if they violate any of the
Release Criteria and warrant the blocking of a release if they're not
fixed. Information on the release criteria for F33 can be found on the

Have a good remainder of your weekend and see you on Monday!

Proposal to Add: Log In/Out Blocker Criteria

2020-08-03 Thread Geoffrey Marr
At today's blocker review meeting[0], we ran across a bug[1] that we
believe is bad enough to warrant blocker status, but as the criteria
currently stand, does not violate any particular criterion. The bug in
question has to do with logging out of one user account and logging into
another account that has already been accessed before during that boot. The
criterion listed in the bug[2] doesn't seem to fit, as it is more focused
on what happens after the system is booted (which does work in the case of
this bug). There is a Final criterion[3] that covers switching between two
accounts, where the data in the account switched out of is retained, but
that is not the case presented here (as this bug has to do with "logging
in/out" of accounts, not "switching" as they are defined technically).
Intellectually, we believe this type of bug should violate the criteria, as
it seems a common use-case, and so we are bringing it up as a possible
addition as there is nothing that currently covers this kind of bug.

The new criterion could look something like "A system with multiple user
accounts must be able to log in and out of said accounts as presented by
all release-blocking desktops in their default configuration."

We would appreciate feedback on this idea and the wording of the criterion.
Should this be a beta or a final blocker? If nothing is heard in a
reasonable amount of time (before next week's blocker review meeting), we
will assume there is no issue with the proposal and add it to the criteria
at that time.

Thanks for reading,
Geoff Marr

Hey Adam, all,

I think it would be a good idea to discuss the proposal to add/modify log
in/out criteria [0] at this meeting so that we can have an answer for the
bug[1] that spawned the idea come the blocker review meeting right after
this meeting.

[Reminder] Fedora IoT Test Week is Starting Today! 12 April 2021

2021-04-12 Thread Geoffrey Marr
Hello testers!

This is a friendly reminder that the Fedora IoT Test Week is starting
today, 12 April 2021! See the test day wiki page [0] and the testday app
[1] for more information on how to get started testing.

Please note that this test week is a little different... Since Fedora is
expected to release at least one Release Candidate (RC) for Fedora 34 this
week, we will start by testing the latest branched compose of Fedora IoT,
then switch to testing the RC when it releases. Please make sure to list
which version of the Fedora IoT images you are using in the comment section
on the results page.

We appreciate any and all testing that can be done, in a VM or on baremetal
hardware; both are welcome!

[Test-Announce] 2021-09-13 @ 16:00 UTC - Fedora 35 Blocker Review Meeting

# F35 Blocker Review meeting
# Date: 2021-09-13
# Time: 16:00 UTC
# Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.libera.chat

Hello testers!

There are currently 6 proposed freeze exceptions to be looked at during the
meeting. We will also spend some time looking over the existing 6 accepted
blockers and 6 accepted freeze exceptions.

If you have time this weekend, you can take a look at the proposed or
accepted blockers before the meeting - the full lists can be found
here: https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/ .

Remember, you can also now vote on bugs outside of review meetings! If
you look at the bug list in the blockerbugs app, you'll see links
labeled "Vote!" next to all proposed blockers and freeze exceptions.
Those links take you to tickets where you can vote.
https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/blocker-review has instructions on how
exactly you do it. We usually go through the tickets shortly before the
meeting and apply any clear votes, so the meeting will just cover bugs
where there wasn't a clear outcome in the ticket voting yet. **THIS
MEANS IF YOU VOTE NOW, THE MEETING WILL BE SHORTER!**

We'll be evaluating these bugs to see if they violate any of the
Release Criteria and warrant the blocking of a release if they're not
fixed. Information on the release criteria for F35 can be found on the
wiki [0].

For more information about the Blocker and Freeze exception process,
check out these links:

And for those of you who are curious how a Blocker Review Meeting
works - or how it's supposed to go and you want to run one - check out
the SOP on the wiki:

Have a good weekend and see you on Monday!

Introduction and help with comps.xml

2016-08-10 Thread Geoffrey Marr
Hi everyone,

My name is Geoff Marr and I am recently new (May) to Fedora. I have several
years of Linux experience before that, starting with Mandrake Linux 9 back in
'03. I also have a background in electronics engineering and since I have moved
to working in software professionally, don't get to use my hardware experience
all that much. That is where I became aware of the Fedora Electronic Lab (FEL)
and with it, how comps.xml and dnf groups work. I have attempted to contact the
owner of FEL, but he hasn't been active since 2014 and as such, many of the
packages in the FEL comps.xml are outdated or need extra dependencies to work.
I have cloned the F25 comps.xml and edited the group for FEL with the required
additional packages, but I do not have permissions to push the new comps.xml.
Is there a process to getting a change approved that I should go though? Also,
how can I go about getting the required permissions to push the comps.xml to
the Pagure page?

FEL is a great product but without maintenance the quality suffers. I am glad
to maintain this particular group until such a time as the owner returns or the
group is passed on to something/someone else. Any help here would be great. I'm
glad to be here and also happy to help in any way that I can, even on things
unrelated to this particular issue. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Thanks,
Geoff Marr

Re: Basic graphics mode / 'nomodeset' testing request, round 2

2019-04-10 Thread Geoffrey Marr
Have tried two machines so far, a MacBook

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 03)

and a Dell Precision M4600 with:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF106GLM [Quadro
2000M] (rev a1)

The MacBook has strange keybindings between the Command/Ctrl/Alt/Function
keys and I can't for the life of me figure out how to register a
"Ctrl-Alt-F3", so I can't say for sure if the error is in the log, but it's
definitely not booting. The Dell however is showing the same error, the
"(EE) Cannot run in framebuffer mode. Please specify busIDs for all
framebuffer devices" and likewise not booting any further. I did a search
through the logs for what Kamil is seeing in the second message, but none
of those lines were found, only the original error. If I can get this
MacBook into a terminal, I'll post what it says too.

2019-05-13 Thread Geoffrey Marr
Hey all,

We didn't meet last week, and there are a few action items from the last
week, so let's meet to go over those. I'll put the action items from the
previous meeting at the end of this email. adamw is on vacation so we can
really only go over one of them, but let's meet to do that. It will also be
good to get a reminder and rundown of the upcoming test days.

If you feel something has been missed and should be added to the agenda,
please respond to this email! See you soon.

== Previous Meeting Action Items ==

1. lruzicka to follow up on "Modularity UX Questions" thread again asking
for more concrete results
2. adamw to revise F30 Common Bugs for Final
3. adamw to resurrect the 'late blocker waiver' proposal with a third draft
or re-send of the second draft

Amateur radio dnf group in comps.xml

2019-08-11 Thread Geoffrey Marr
Devel team,

I am interested in creating a package group specific for Fedora amateur/ham
radio users. I know people in my local area who have interest in such a
group, and surely others out there, that could bring more ham radio users
to Fedora, if the ability to install all the packages needed for a ham
radio setup was easier than installing all packages separately. I would
maintain the group of packages in comps.xml and remove/modify it should a
discrepancy arise. How should I proceed?

I have been working on Fedora since May of 2016 as a member of Fedora QA
and have modified comps.xml before adding/fixing some broken packages in
the 'Electronics Lab' group.

Unresponsive SIG Leader

I have tried to join the Amateur Radio SIG twice, once in January, and
again recently in August. The owner, Bob Jensen [0], does not seem to be
around any longer in the Fedora community or the amateur radio community as
his FCC license has expired and is no longer valid [1]. I would like to
know how, if possible, to take over as the leader of the group. It hasn't
gotten much love in the last several years and it shows... :) Please let me
know how to proceed from here.

# F29 Blocker Review meeting
# Date: 2018-10-22

Hey everyone,

We currently (as of 2018-10-18 at 22:00UTC) have 10 accepted blockers, 5
proposed freeze exceptions, and 11 accepted freeze exceptions. Let's take
Monday to review the accepted and vote on whatever is left before we
(hopefully) get a compose going on Monday or Tuesday.

*It will be extremely helpful to get votes IN-BUG for this, as if we wait
until the meeting to take care of all the blockers, we can almost bet on
not having a compose in time for Go/No-Go next Thursday. Please vote in-bug
before the meeting!*

* If you have time this weekend, you can take a look at the proposed or
accepted blockers before the meeting - the full lists can be found here:
https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/
 .*

We'll be evaluating these bugs to see if they violate any of the
Release Criteria and warrant the blocking of a release if they're not
fixed. Information on the release criteria for F29 can be found on the
wiki [0].

Aaron,

Fantastic! Since you have a Xen setup, would you mind running this test and
posting your results to the wiki? [0]
Let me know if you need anything.

[Test-Announce] Cloud/Atomic Test Day 2018-04-11

2018-04-10 Thread Geoffrey Marr
Hey All,

Tomorrow, Tuesday 2018-04-11 will be the Fedora 28 Cloud/Atomic Test Day!
[0]

The Fedora Atomic Working Group and Fedora Cloud SIG would like to invite
members of the community to join us in finding and squashing bugs.
We are organizing a Test Day on Wednesday, April 11th 2018.

This test day will focus on testing Fedora Atomic Host, Fedora Atomic
Workstation
and Fedora Cloud Base content.
It's also pretty easy to join in: all you'll need is F28 image (which you
can grab from the wiki page [0]).

As always, the chat channel for the event will be in #fedora-test-day on
Freenode IRC.

following week, so many others won't be able to make it. We will plan to
reconvene on 8 August.

[Test-Announce] 2022-04-11 @ 16:00 UTC - Fedora 36 Blocker Review Meeting

2022-04-10 Thread Geoffrey Marr
# F36 Blocker Review meeting
# Date: 2022-04-11
# Time: 16:00 UTC
# Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.libera.chat

Hey testers! We have 7 proposed Final blockers and 2 proposed Final freeze
exception issues to review, so let's have a review meeting on Monday. We
also have Go/No-Go coming up on 14 April, so let's take time to review the
accepted blocker list.

If you have time, you can take a look at the proposed or
accepted blockers before the meeting - the full lists can be found
here: https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/ .

We'll be evaluating these bugs to see if they violate any of the
Release Criteria and warrant the blocking of a release if they're not
fixed. Information on the release criteria for F36 can be found on the

See you at the meeting!
