Getting .fc32 packages while trying to follow F31 branch ?

2019-08-19 Thread Hans de Goede

Hi all,

I've been following rawhide for the last few weeks to test some F31
things. Now that we've branched I've updated my .repo files to point to
the normal fedora repos and disabled the rawhide ones, but still
dnf update wants to install a whole load of .fc32 packages.

I've already manually updated to fedora-release-31-0.10 and cleared
my dnf cache, but that does not help.

Regards,

Hans

There is no f31 repo yet
https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/development/ so perhaps
mirror-manager is redirecting f31 to rawhide.

It is mirror manager doing the redirection to rawhide.

For convenience there are repository redirects from n+1 to rawhide. I
had to remove them manually and in a few hours mirrormanager should
point to the correct repositories. If not, please open a ticket.

Except there is not a correct repository to point to.

Until we have a f31 compose...we can't point to that f31 compose. ;)

Ah, so I was too fast removing the redirects. I have added them back, so
that 31 still points to rawhide.

That's not good either. People who want to follow branched
(and many people do, esp. from the QA teams), will get packages from F32
which they shouldn't.

I think broken links are prefereable to getting redirected to the wrong
place.

I'm sorry you ran into so many troubles. I'd really advise in cases like
this moving forward that you try not to panic and relax and let things
get sorted out before trying more and more dire fixes.

If I could magically wave a wand and have a f31 compose I sure would.
I worked on it some this weekend, and got past one issue onto another.

I think we have that solved now, so another compose is running.

Please stand by.

Re: Getting .fc32 packages while trying to follow F31 branch ?

2019-08-20 Thread Petr Mensik
Hi Adrian,

I think this redirection is cause of breakage on rawhide machines. I
think we must be able to first serve separate repositories. Only then it
can proceed to increase of version in new rawhide.

My point is, n+1 has to be always signed by old key served in fedora and
updates repositories for that version. If next branching from rawhide
should be smooth:

1. new key has to exist in advance
2. n+1 has to keep old key that previous rawhide started with. No
package in fedora or updates or updates-testing repos should contain
package signed by n+2 key. n+2 key (and rawhide) can be used for signing
only after they are separate and n+1 repo is ready. Until that, only n+1
key must be used.

What are use cases when redirects are used? Would it make more sense to
redirect it opposite way, until rawhide is ready?

Hope it makes sense.

Regards,
Petr

Yeah, probibly so. :(

I think next branching we should look at perhaps disabling rawhide
composes until branched completes. Thats kind of a big hammer, but it
would avoid some of the pain.
