Sorry for not mentioning this in the mail - it is mentioned on the 13.1.0 wiki page though. This build enables automatic firmware upgrade, but those users who are on Q7B01 will need to manually upgrade due to a bug in that firmware version, already fixed for later ones. It also drops A2 support as mentioned, but everyone should have a B1 by now. Daniel ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel

Sure. You won't have seen an Open Firmware upgrade for two possible reasons: 1. automatic upgrades were turned off, even though the function is normally turned on, reason being preservation of the XO-4 A2 prototypes, 2. Q7B01 may have had a problem with automatic upgrade that has since been fixed. Re: Re: 13.1.0 development build 12 released
Not exactly wrong, but incomplete. olpc-update will potentially change /bootpart/boot/bootfw*.zip and as a consequence Open Firmware or olpc.fth may reflash to a later version of Open Firmware. I think you might change your wording on the Wiki page. There's also more than one firmware. There's Open Firmware, the touchscreen firmware, the embedded controller firmware, and the wireless firmware. ;-} On Sat, Nov 17, 2012 at 11:11:06AM +1100, fors...@ozonline.com.au wrote: > So am I right in saying that olpc-update does not update OFW or is this the > result of some temporary disabling? > > I edited http://wiki.laptop.org/go/13.1.0#Online_upgrade with a note that may > not be correct. > > > As I understand it, the auto-firmware reflash process was temporarily > > disabled to avoid an issue with XO-4 A2 prototypes. > ___ > Devel mailing list > Devel@lists.laptop.org > http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel -- James Cameron http://quozl.linux.org.au/ ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel

Triggered by /bootpart/boot/olpc.fth for unsigned builds, or built into Open Firmware for signed builds. The code reads the bootfw*.zip file and checks for whether it should update. It can be found in security.fth in the Open Firmware source. It can display a battery icon as a reminder. To see what this looks like, type show-no-power at the ok prompt. Re: Re: 13.1.0 development build 12 released
So am I right in saying that olpc-update does not update OFW or is this the result of some temporary disabling? Re: 13.1.0 development build 12 released
The update is done by olpc.fth if the XO is not secured, and we just re-enabled the ability to do this on XO-4 in os12.A battery/power icon will appear if the XO is running without external power and the firmware cannot be safely updated. As I understand it, the auto-firmware reflash process was temporarily disabled to avoid an issue with XO-4 A2 prototypes. Re-enabling the reflash process means we can no longer support these early prototypes going forward. Very few people outside of OLPC likely have XO-4 A2 units. --- SJG On Fri, Nov 16, 2012 at 6:59 PM, Hal Murray wrote: > > w...@laptop.org said: > > More importantly, occasionally boot with two sources of power (battery > and > > DC). Re: Re: 13.1.0 development build 12 released
No, the full reflash with fs-update should be no different. If the firmware is not automatically updating on boot, that's possibly a problem with Q7B01, if not, it should be investigated further if you see it again after update to Q7B07. It was the 444 that reminded me you have a firmware version that is probably faulty. John I think the problem is that olpc-update does not update the firmware, all updates have been with 2 sources of power, so the lesson is to occasionally do the full reflash (which uses a lot of bandwidth) or manually update the OFW Tony > More importantly, occasionally boot with two sources of power (battery and > DC). > Q7B01 should have been replaced automatically a number of builds ago. ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel
