[sabayon-dev] Monthly
Since we are getting away from "Monthly" releases we should probably change wording to something like Daily and Stable releases or Daily and Quarterly releases. Keeping the term Monthly is just going to cause confusion with users and fifty billion questions of why do we have monthly still when we don't have monthy. -- Kelly Schwartz ~wolfden~

Re: [sabayon-dev] Sabayon Server and BTRFS
You would have to check on the calmares development site. I don't know of any time frames, best to subscribe to their mail list or something to keep up with latest stuff. I think they just added LUKS to calamares 2.0, but don't quote me on that. You can install btrfs-tools while on the live disk, but yea it would be good to have the package available instantly. Re: [sabayon-dev] Sabayon Server and BTRFS
It's Calamares, afaik it's not supporting it yet. What you can do is pre-partition everything with like gparted or something and than just point the installer to the partitions to use. That is what I did and calamares had no problem installing to the btrfs partitions. I've never been a fan of installers doing the partitioning anyway, just one more thing to go wrong. [sabayon-dev] Bots - IRC
I would like to see a change with #sabayon-dev and it's bots. The bots are great and all, but it's too much. It makes it difficult to scroll back and follow along in conversation. I would much prefer have the dev channel for humans to discuss. How about another channel for the bots? #sabayon-activity or something. -- KJS ~wolfden~

[sabayon-dev] Xfce dev iso, couple things...
~~Augh, think I sent last email to the wrong list, so resending~~ I'm noticing on the XFCE dev iso an error on every boot that bluetooth is failing to load. [pulseaudio] bluez5-util.c: GetManagedObjects() failed: org.freedesktop.systemd1.LoadFailed: Unit dbus-org.bluez.service failed to load: No such file or directory. Fix: rename /etc/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop to something like pulseaudio.none and the error message in boot up log will go away and pulseaudio still works. Regardless, pulseaudio works even if we are trying to start it twice, it just kills the second one. Again - journalctl -b -p err will confirm the message of pulseaudio killing it, not sure if present on other iso's but I assume both issues are. -- KJS ~wolfden~
[sabayon-dev] Latest MATE dev iso
Booted up to test the dev MATE, when the desktop loads the Sabayon wallpaper is not the default wallpaper, some green stripped wallpaper is. The Sabayon wallpapers aren't even in the default selection of wallpapers in the Appearance Preferances, one has to click add to see the Sabayon wallpapers. Not sure if this is the desired behavior, but I think the Sabayon wallpaper should at least be the default paper one sees when the desktop loads. As far as the Appearance Prefrences selection of wallpapers, no biggie, but it would be nice to have the sabayon wallpapers show up there. -- KJS ~wolfden~
Re: [sabayon-dev] Hop feature of equo/entropy
afaik the hop is depreciated as we moved to a rolling release many years ago. For example when sabayon was 3.0 to get to 4.0 one would of used the hop command to get to the 4.0 repo to upgrade to 4.0, but there is no need for that now since we are rolling now. [sabayon-dev] Daily XFCE boots to XDM
The daily XFCE hasn't boot properly in the last 3 weeks. I figured as we switched over to systemd it would work out eventually, but posting anyway. XFCE boots up to the XMD login box, which is a weird looking box, I don't recall ever seeing this. I check the /etc/conf.d/xdm and display manager is set to "xdm" I believe it should be set to "gdm" since that is what is installed. I change to "gdm" than issue systemctl stop xdm systemctl status xdm and it reports it dead systemctl start xdm and I am brought back to the xdm login box, as if systemd doesn't use the /etc/conf.d/xdm file. I have no idea if it does or doesn't as I a noob to systemd. So hoping to look at log files and apparently systemd don't make the log files? I can't find /var/log/messages or /var/log/dmesg A side note, I have to edit the grub line and remove all that fancy graphical commands to get display to work. If I leave the default grub line as is, my monitor goes to sleep and I can't do a thing to get it to display. ctrl alt f1 does nothing. If I remove everything starting with splash to --quiet in grub I get my display. Intel graphics - I can maybe get more info once the xdm issue is solved. What is best way to get info on the xdm issue? -- KJS ~wolfden~

[sabayon-dev] Observations with latest
I took last live build of Sabayon Forensics x86_64, added limbo and installed MATE 1.6 to see how well it worked. I know limbo is testing now, just want to point out something equo install @mate At the installation of app-admin/eselect-sysvinit, sys-fs/udev is uninstalled. A equo deptest pulls it back. After install and deptest, MATE loads fine, but checking sabayonx86-64 sabayonuser # eselect settingsd list Available settingsd implementations: [1] systemd sabayonx86-64 sabayonuser # eselect sysvinit list Available sysvinit implementations: [1] systemd sabayonx86-64 sabayonuser # I see joost posted: xbox-360 joost # eselect sysvinit list Available sysvinit implementations: [1] systemd * [2] sysvinit Seems I missing sysvinit option. I've used unetbootin and win32diskimager with same results. -- KJS ~wolfden~
Re: [sabayon-dev] the status of Sabayon on ARM
After messing around with ARM, it would not hurt my feelings to put it on hold or drop it. It's not ready for mainstream. The Linaro builds are probably the best I have messed with and at that rate, it's terribly slow. XBMC doesn't have the acceleration yet and fails miserably with video files. There is no flash, so streaming music is almost impossible from the web as most players are flash players. It's probably ok for coders that live in a terminal, but other than that, it's useless.

A lot of hard decisions have had to come into play this year due to Upstream. We don't go out of our way to make and break stuff. We don't like to hear the moaning any more than the next person. We aren't alone in this and what hurts more is there is upstream devs that just don't care and it's going to be their way or the highway. I suggest to users to pay more attention to the equipment they do buy. If you have time and abilities, get involved in helping make things work. I know it's frustrating to see perfectly good systems getting kicked to the curb. -- KJS ~wolfden~

[sabayon-dev] Network Manager Bug?
I'm still having issues with ABI and xfce daily live edition and without networking abilities it's frustrating. I see we have net-misc/networkmanager-0.9.4.0-r2 which seems to have a bug https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=410661 apparently fixed in: *networkmanager-0.9.4.0-r4 (05 Jul 2012) 05 Jul 2012; Alexandre Rostovtsev +files/10-openrc-status-r2, -networkmanager-0.9.4.0-r3.ebuild, +networkmanager-0.9.4.0-r4.ebuild, +files/networkmanager-0.9.4.0-dhclient-ipv6.patch: Fix the hang in 10-openrc-status that resulted in networkmanager getting marked as 'inactive' on resuming from suspend; many thanks to Travis Hansen for the solution (bugs #410661 <http://bugs.gentoo.org/410661>, #417283<http://bugs.gentoo.org/417283>). Fix incompatibility with net-misc/dhcp[-ipv6] (bug #335147 <http://bugs.gentoo.org/335147>, thanks to Rick Harris). Move polkit rules.d file to /usr/share (bug #421577 <http://bugs.gentoo.org/421577> comment #12 <http://bugs.gentoo.org/12>, thanks to Dennis Lissov). Why do I suspect such: I keep getting this: * Marking NetworkManager as inactive. It will automatically be marked * as started after a network connection has been established. * WARNING: NetworkManager has started, but is inactive It's not an issue if you can get the Desktop Environment to load, but since I can't get a desktop environment to load due to the ABI xorg stuff. Yes? No? I really need to get this cleared up with XFCE daily so it works again. -- KJS ~wolfden~

[sabayon-dev] Xorg Issue with Intel?
My machine that I normally test ForensicXFCE on can no longer reach the desktop. It was like that all last week too. I haven't had much time to look into it but Errors in xorg log are: Module ABI major version (13) doesn't match server's version (16) Module ABI major version (11) doesn't match server's version (12) Intel 4 series chipset and vesa makes no difference. So not sure if the intel driver needs rebuilding to be compatible or what. Seems getting back from vacation we swamped with xorg issues. -- Kelly Schwartz ~wolfden~

Re: [sabayon-dev] Sabayon with Cinnamon topping?
Just a thought here after seeing some of the things Joost been showing: We use/keep the default Gnome 3 for default desktop, but we spruce it up with extensions. The frippery extentions are nice for a bottom panel and changing the menu Applications Menu https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/13/ Bottom Panel https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/3/ Coverflow Alt Tab https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/97/coverflow-alt-tab/ We can than add in the cpu freq, battery or whatever would be good to come up with a nice default Gnome 3. Cinnamon is nice, but as micia says and just the fact alone it's not yet compatible with extensions. So we are basically giving our users a default desktop that can't take advantage of all the cool extensions. Maybe Sabayon 9 would be better with cinnamon if it works with the extensions. [sabayon-dev] Daily Jan 15th amd64 Gnome
Someone want to confirm that gnome edition is not booting to Cinnamon but to default Gnome 3 instead? I logged out, changed session to Cinnamon and than back into default gnome, but if I log back out and than just click on login without changing anything I load into Cinnamon. The session setting seems to get switched to gnome for some reason. -- Kelly Schwartz ~wolfden~
