Re: [SailfishDevel] Available now: Sailfish Community Device Program and Jolla C

Time announced on ML was 1pm EET (local .fi time), which is UTC+3, the shop
went online
couple of minutes past 10:00 UTC which is 1pm EET.

How is UK time +0200? BST is UTC+1?!

James, you might want to announce in UTC from now on.

Even then a bottom menu is better than a pull-down menu with everything
important in the top row?! The question is pretty odd, with the kbd out you need
it upside-down even more as your distance to the top grows. With static kbd like
the Passport or other BBs but Priv, a bottom oriented UI would fit better than
this everything top layout.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but this needs to be commented as it is so
frustrating that I consider buying another phone.

How about merging the good things from the 1.0UI back into 2.0 and make pages
work upside down (important things in bottom half?!). The 2.0 UI only works on
the Tablet as you use that mostly two-handed. The phone with buttons to reach on
top like the settings-shortcuts in eventsview was also horrible in 1.0ui
settings... The whole thing needs to be reworked, eventsview settings pulled
from bottom and events history upside down (for example).

Just from reviving my N900 two weeks ago and booting my Jolla with 1.0UI made me
wish for a merged 1.0+2.0-upside-down UI and a device with proper h/w keyboard.
We should get BB to use SFOS on BB Passport!

Selling it to bigger companies is the actual way to earn a lot of money.

You pay 260€ (now it is 200€ I know) to then pay another 120€ to get upgrades?

How about another model, sell developer equipment. That could also go for a
kickstarter - PCcovers without NFCchip, plain blank covers for cheap in packs of
10 with a handfull of solderpins that fit the connectors or 10 circuit foil
sheets that can be soldered to your ideas. Still nothing that generates revenue
fast but with a campaign and announcing a Jolla2 with the same TOH dimensions
would give it some drive. Jolla2 announcing in terms of, if we survive we will
do anotherone just like Jolla1 with improved hardware, coming 2017. On the other
hand, doing a complete makeover of that sort is apart of more RAM and bigger
mmc not even required. SFOS is now in a stae where any device vendor could jump
in and generate a lot of revenue. No idea what google paid for their Nexus
phones but I guess the deal zeroed out in the end.

Truth is, they need more funds to actually get noticed by people that would
become a part of this community in a heartbeat. Just met a guy last week who
bought an S6edge the other week and bit his hand when I told him what that phone
and tablet on my table are. Looking at Apple, marketing is everything - they
sold sour milk to cows and still do. Always fun seeing my iPhone and Android
friends struggle with their phones.

I've sent the mail with my details to Carsten already, but a question here
 for
the broad public. Why this has any implications? Isn't the point of having
 the
emulator and the build engine in virtual machines to not depend at all on the
 host of said virtual machines?

It is about whom has the lowest power and are there enough to have the SDK be
optimized so everything runs smooth even on slower machines. It is not about
core instructions if I understood that right.

  2) VT virtualization technology or not?

One more thing: I answered yes to this because I understood it as does
 your
CPU have support for virtualization instructions? (VT-x / AMD-V), not wether
 I have VirtualBox available.

Same here, at first I thought he is asking about what VM I use but that makes no
sense.

We need community help with moderating...

Just yesterday I was thinking about this!

I'd like to add tmo to the list, quiet alot of people, devel or not are on
talk.maemo.org and some moderators for the SailfishOS part could come handy at
this point. I don't mind *Jolla to have moderator accounts too.

If you want to take a share contact me (chem|st in #jollamobile/#sailfishos).
You want to moderate more than SailfisOS subforums? Just add a list what
subforums you would be interested in.
