Re: [digitalradio] PSK31

2006-01-11 Thread Andrew O'Brien
Double check that the audio from the Soudcard is correctly connected
to input on your interface. Make sure the audio output level is
satisfactory (and also make sure you do not set it too high). Make
sure the received signal on digipan's waterfall (and thus the area you
will be transmitting from) is between 1000 and 1500 Hz.

Keep the questions coming , we are all here to help you get on the air.

 Subject: [digitalradio] PSK31

Greetings, I just joined this group. I'm trying to get my PSK31
working and seem to have hit some type of roadblock. I'm using a
BUXCOMM Rascal Black box for the interface into a Kenwood TS-570. The
software I'm using is Digipan. I seem to be able to receive just fine
but the problem is transmitting. The black box red light comes on and
the transceiver keys but nothing moves on the radios meter. Is there
something I don't have set right in my sound card or something? Any
  help would be most appreciated.

Re: [digitalradio] NTS and traffic handling and digital

2006-01-11 Thread kd4e
Satellite internet is not mission-critical reliable.

It could be disasterously foolish to design a solitary
dependency on such a non-redundant system, same as the
prior foolishness of we have cell phones, we don't
need Ham radio.

This is not to say that ill-informed decisionmakers
brainwashed by high priced salesmen won't repeat the
errors of the past.

Does it occur to anyone as a lesson to be learned
that dependency on sensitive technologies like satellite
phones, cellphones, and complex Motorola/Ericsson/etc
systems which are typically first to fail and slow to
restore?

Sigh. doc

Truthfully, the satellite internet communications connections cost less per
year than one HF rig and even over three years cost less than the equipment
required to run W2K or like systems...and the speed is much greater.

Therefore, I believe the organization will be moving away from using amateur
radio all together in the future.

Re: [digitalradio] Digital SSTV?

2006-01-11 Thread Joe Ivey

Andy,

I have tried about all of the digital SSTV programs
and Hampal is as good as any of them.
Try this site for info and downloads: http://www.kiva.net/~djones/
A word of advice, It takes a fast computer to
really work. I had a P2 at 400 MHz and it would take about 3 times the amount of
time to decode it as it did to receive it. In other words if it takes 1 minute
to receive the file it will take 3 minutes to decode. A 1 gig or faster computer
is about as low as you need to try. It is not the receiving that is slow, it is
the decoding. You also have to have a very good signal without any noise. All the
programs uses the RDFT to send the data. You will also need a graphics program
that will handle .JPG2000. There is a link on the above site where you can
download a free program. Also on the sight is a lot of information on digital
SSTV. You can also ask KB4YZ questions about digital SSTV. He is on almost every
week day on 7.173 +/- around 1800 utc.

Hope this helps.

Re: [digitalradio] Digital SSTV?

2006-01-11 Thread Joe Ivey

Hi Danny,

Yes they all work the same. The problems are that
they use the RDFT and you either get the file that was transmitted or you don't.
Then you have to have a graphics program to view the picture once it is received
and decoded. I don't really know if one is better than the other. The
computer is also a key issue.

I think, and may be wrong, the RDFT converts a
binary file to a .wav and it is transmitted in "blocks". If you miss one block
the you miss the picture. However you can send back to the station the block(s)
that you missed and he can resend just those blocks.

Too complicated for me. I am in 2 states all the
time. The state of Alabama and the state of Comfusion. Hi.

[digitalradio] Re: Digital SSTV?

2006-01-11 Thread Jerry
Yeah,
Have not tried to copy digital SSTV for a long time. Got tired of
fighting with all the RTTY signals in the PSK part of twenty meters
this past weekend, so went up to 14.233 and tried using DigiTrx,
didn't work. Guess they are now using HamPal now on digital SSTV.
Two different formats, DigiTrx I think uses RDFT and is the older
and first try at digital SSTV, HamPal is using DRM or Digital Radio
Mondiale type encode/decode. Signals were to noisy and got to many
errors that I gave up. I didn't feel up to asking for fills, would
have taken all afternoon the way the noise was at my QTH. Went down to
14.230 and even with noise was at least able to view some kind of an
image on Analog SSTV.

Guess this upcomming weekend, January 14th, is another PSK contest, a
total waste of time for me. Anyone want to mess with DominoEX or the
newest version of MultiPsk, Patrick added video ID in the waterfall
on some of the modes. For instance sending CQ on Olivia 500Hz, 16
tones one can see in the waterfall Oliva 16T 500 before the CQ text
is sent. The image is pretty weak, but at least a start to ID on
all the MFSK type modes such as Olivia. Even works for BPSK31. The
version number is 3.12 MultiPsk.
