You can try the link below - if it still works you can download the
current beta
from there - bear in mind that the Cat control feature is still in beta
but will work
with the 3 radios mentioned
You will also need the program Irfanview and all Plugins on your
computer as well

If you cant get it from that site let me know and I shall email it to you

de les vk2dsg

The CAT PTT control is ready for a bit of testing.
It has only been tested with the FT-847, FT-920 and FT-1000 D.
Most of the others should work.
I am not sure about the KENWOOD rigs.
At least KENWOOD has made all the CAT commands standard for all rigs, but it
has a different format, so I would be delighted if anyone can tell me if
it works.
The CommPort settings are up to the user, as he can change things and I
have no idea what his settings might be.
However the present ComPort settings will usually work although some may
require one stop bit.
These settings are remembered.

To operate.
1. Select CAT PTT Settings.
2. Select the rig. If yours is not there then send me the commands and I
will include it.
3. Select the comport settings that your rig or modem require.
4. Select Use CAT PTT

Get it from:

Any idea why they chose the WAV file format?

Is it, and the MS version of windows, more a matter
of familiarity or is the WAV file format really the
most efficient of the many alternatives?

Also, anyone know if there are Linux apps that handle
these formats, since an increasing number of Hams are
moving to Linux?

Since Andy brought up the subject of Digital SSTV here is a web page that
will explain it better than I can.
http://web.aanet.com.au/betula/digital.htm You will also have to have a
program called Irfanview to view the pictures.

[digitalradio] Commonality of systems' vital to military communications

Title: Commonality of systems' vital to military communications

Commonality of systems' vital to military communications
01/10/06
By Dawn S. Onley,
GCN Staff

SAN DIEGO-Among the problems revealed as a result of hurricanes Katrina and Rita was that the National Guard and Reserves struggled to communicate with other federal, state and local organizations, according to the assistant secretary of Defense for reserve affairs.

Adm. Thomas F. Hall said senior military leaders-such as Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honore, who was in charge of the military's response to hurricane Katrina-sent runners to relay messages between bases and posts, reminiscent of relay tactics used during World War II.

Somehow we have to get a commonality of systems, Hall said today during the morning keynote session at the Armed Forces Communications and Electronic Association International's West 2006 Convention. The effort, which should include common radios and wavelengths, needs to be led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Hall added.

After Katrina, military units set up tactical satellites, data switching/multiplex equipment, and secure and nonsecure voice, video and data links to the Defense Information Systems Network. That helped base leaders communicate with others at a particular location.

Many Defense leaders said the problem often arose when units at one location tried to talk to units at another location.

[digitalradio] What is the best mode for my operation?

Re: [digitalradio] NTS and traffic handling and digital

2006-01-12 Thread kd4e
It is a pet peeve that our defense establishment is so
dependent on satellites.

The communist-fascist regime that has mainland China
enslaved and is building a massive military machine with
WalMart (etc) dollars has been building satellite-killer
technology for years.

Were comets, heavy smoke, Chinese sabotage, and/or jamming
to significantly impair satellite access we would be rendered
weak and blind.

I have used the SkyAngel satellite TV system and can testify
first-hand how easily it is messed with by mere common weather
patterns.

So yes, I do not believe that the evidence supports the contention
that solitary dependence upon satellite internet is a wise
mission-critical decision.

IMHO, YMMV ... doc

Why do you say that satellite internet is not mission-critical reliable? It
is what 90% of the military communications use.

Of course if it fails, then there is always HF but should satellite internet
fail, then the roll of HF will not be used in its traditional roll...it
would be more used for liaison between first responders.

[digitalradio] TenTec Triton IV on Digital Modes?

2006-01-12 Thread kd4e
I may be acquiring a used TenTec Triton IV.

Anyone using one of these for digital modes, including
SSTV, Pactor, PSK31, etc?

Is the relay switching a show-stopper or can that be
replaced with a solid state relay?

I recognize that 100% of the processing would be done
external to the rig and just audio in, audio out, and
ptt done at the rig.

I have tried this with a Triton IV and a Corsair.
They do an acceptable job if they would stay put on the frequency. I found drift
to be a problem so I quit using themand just use an ICOM 706 radio and my

[digitalradio] Trying to set up my TS850 for FSK RTTY

2006-01-12 Thread max_ve3tmt
I'm using a RigBlaster Plus and want to set it up for true FSK keying
instead of AFSK. I can't seem to get the settings and jumpers right in
the RigBlaster. It will key the rig but not alternate the tones. I
have grounded the FSK jack on the radio to verify the keying is
working. My manual makes reference to setting TXD for keying but there
are only 4 jumper positions in my RigBlaster, not 5 as shown in the
manual. And there is no TXD LED on the board either as shown in the
manual. Anyone using this combination who can help me out?

Thnanks in advance,

Max VE3TMT

When you see the call in the window left click on it and it will
automatically transfer to the logging screen, not the log book file yet,
that happens when your done with the QSO, there you can also transfer
the name and qth and state, lotw et, just highlight the text and right
click I think (Its automatic now with me and I am not positive, hi ) and
it will give you the choice were to transfer the text, it is smart
enough to know what you are transferring so when you click on name do
not be concerned that the menu did not show state, when you highlight a
state it knows but still gives you a choice but now state will be one of
the choices, amazing. The QSO start time will not occur until some
additional data is enter, focus shifts from the call to the rst or name
or QTH et.

When the qso is over you can have a macro send the info to the logbook
or you can just hit the enter key will focusing the mouse in the log
area. The the data will transfer to the book.

Its all explained in the help file.

It's one of the best Logging programs out there and you will enjoy it
very much. Has so many features, I do not know where to start other
than to say read the opening comments and operating section in the help
file, you will not be disappointed!

Mel,

You will not be disappointed with Logger32. In
addition to what Ron said, you can set Logger32 to to automatically look the
callsign up from one of the callbook data bases or to go out on the internet to
www.qrz.co , www.golist.net or www.hamcall.net I use qrz mself. I think there
maybe a fee for the others. It works great if you have DSL or cable internet
service. I have not tried it with a dial-up. All of this is in the help files.
It takes a while to get everything set up

Re: [digitalradio] What is the best mode for my operation?

2006-01-12 Thread John Bradley

I agree with Andy. OLIVIA has worked better for
me between 2 distant points. tried MT63, MFSK and OLIVIA, and came to the
conclusion
that Olivia worked best under poor conditions.

In terms on NTS and traffic handling, what would be
great would be a message "template" which could be used to pass traffic, so that
there would be little or no manipulation of the message ie getting it into a
standard format at the reception end so that it can be passed quickly to the
addresse.
Another template which matched the reception center
registration form would be good, too enabling quick data entry by the agency ,
either the Salvation Army or the Red Cross data base.

In areas which are sparsely populated like
parts of the US midwest and western Canada, HF message handling might be the
only contact for some
time after a twister rolls through. To this
end we have ensured that our ARES command post can operate HF Digital modes,on
generator power, and can be deployed quickly... it is set up to be
self-sufficient for at least 24 hours

I think Olivia would be the best mode for this.Andy

PSK31, ALE/8FSK, etc." I am wondering about my limited
operation. My ONLY digital operation now is a weekly net of
about 30 minutes which has been on MT63 on 40. We basically copy
the NCS and list our traffic. Then the NCS has us transmit the
traffic. If the intended recipient cannot copy the traffic,
someone will relay it for you. Almost all of us capture any
traffic (which are files) sent on the net in case someone needs a
relay. Additionally there is some traffic that is a broadcast to all
stations. Thus far MT63 (2K long interleave) has been very
robust but not as fast as we would like. Most stations are
running 100 SSB transceivers and a NVIS antenna. The
question is would MFSK16 or PSK63 be a better mode to run the net on
and then just pass the traffic on MT63? Also, are any of the
above modes more robust than MT63 and not too much slower (lower
  throughput)? Thanks and 73,
