Thank you, Darrel. I have not downloaded them, will try to get the
images to burn here and give them a "test drive".

Jose,

I use the emcpup disk by Dave, W1HKJ and ham_pup . I use emcpup
regularly and am actually able to make it run, although not without
difficulties, on an old Toshiba Laptop with 96Mb of ram. They both
have all the Linux apps needed to get you working most digital mode
right away as well as logging, dxcluster, rig control and position
location apps.

[digitalradio] WSPR - Freq

2008-03-31 Thread W4LDE-Ron
The thread and recommendations on other frequencies stop. I find it so
interesting on the low power capabilities on 30M
that I am hoping there's also lots of activity on 80/40.

I have seen complaints about using the more common JT65 frequencies so I
am asking if there is much use on the 80/40m bands and if so where?

WSPR reminds me of using 1-watt using Olivia both on 80 as well as 40
and having very good results.

Re: [digitalradio] Computer OS

2008-03-31 Thread Darrel Smith

Kurt,

I would you try Ubuntu 8.04 which works on systems with limited
resources very fast. Fire up your Xp, go to Wubi and follow the
instructions and you will be able use Linux without disturbing your
windows. I am sure you will be pleased with the performance as 1ghz,
256mgs ram is ample for Linux.

The OS must have the ability to surf the net, email and have some
softwareavailable for psk31,rtty,logbook.
But the most important is easy to use.

Any suggestions?

Re: [digitalradio] Computer OS

2008-03-31 Thread Simon Brown
Why change? Myself I would add some more RAM if possible and just use it
as-is. The only other OS I would use is Windows 2000. Linux is another
option, you may not find all the software you need though. For Linux I find
Ubuntu very idiot-proof.

Before you install something make a note of the XP licence key, there are
free utilities for this.
