Re: [digitalradio] Re: PC/Soundcard requirements for Softrock/SDR ?

2009-06-24 Thread Andy obrien
Thanks Ed for this detailed review. I am thinking about a the G40 (
http://www.genesisradio.com.au/G40/) . So, based upon your review ,
I may also need more RAM and possibly two new soundcards. I need to
factor the costs of that in to any decision as to whether it is
worthwhile.

Re: [digitalradio] Re: The best of all features - SdR

Hello Ed,

I am trying it now but haven't figured out how to use it yet. It looks
like the RX from the radio and the speaker output use one sound card and
the TX output and mic use the second sound card.
Are you speaking of Multidem or Multipsk?
On Multipsk, the main sound card manages input from or output to the
transceiver, whereas the Auxiliary sound card manages the speaker from
which you are going to listen to the demodulated SdR sound (at least for
control as it is not strictly indispensable for digital communications).

I tried to select a sampling frequency of 12KHz but now it reports an
error and does not allow me to correct the error.
Surely, the SdR function works in RX and TX with a physical sound-card.
The standard sampling frequency on Multipsk in SdR is 48 KHz (16 bits
stereo) not 12 KHz .

A physical sound card (even an onboard one) is preferible (if you have the
choice).

 Hello Ed and all,

For information, with the last version of Multipsk (4.14), you can decode
 48
KHz (for standard sound cards) up to 192 KHz (with specific sound cards)
 if
 you have a SdR.

Note: with standard sound cards, the noise floor must be around the 10th
 bit
(about 1/1000 of the full scale), so the level at the SdR output must not
 too much low.

 Patrick,

This sounds like it is exactly what I am looking for. I would like to be
able to operate digital modes with the SDR without using the VAC program.

I am trying it now but haven't figured out how to use it yet. It looks
like the RX from the radio and the speaker output use one sound card and
the TX output and mic use the second sound card.

I tried to select a sampling frequency of 12KHz but now it reports an
error and does not allow me to correct the error.

I will continue experimenting with it.

 Hello,

Has anyone used the ASUS laptop for psk31 or any digital
 modes im looking at it
 for some portable ops
 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BYD178/ref=noref?ie=UTF8s=pc
It looks like a neat computer and the price is outstanding
 just wanted to know
 if anyone has tried it

The 901 should be just fine for the digital modes. I have the ASUS 1000HE
which is just about the same computer except for the hard drive vers the solid
state memory and a few extras. I have used Digipan and several other programs
for psk31 with no problem. Runs mmtty fine. If you do not have a usb to
serial port adaptor you may not be able to control the rig. Some of the
interface units come with the adaptors for this.

It does not really take much of a computer to run basic psk31. I have ran psk
31 with some 200 mhz desktop computers years ago.

[digitalradio] Fwd: fldigi and DBLog

Hi everybody,

I have just uploaded the version 0.15.2 of DBLog on

http://www.qsl.net/zp4kfx/Linux/dblog.html

DBLog is a logger program for Linux inspired to Logger32 and to M1NN_Logger.

It works in harmony with fldigi for operating digi-modes.

DBLog is UTF-8 compliant and sensitive to the 'locale'.

It stores all data's in the RDBM PostgreSQL.

Beyond sources for GAMBAS2 ( http://gambas.sf.net ) there are available the
installation packages for Debian, OpenSuSE, Fedora, Mandriva and Ubuntu.

It is also available an Autotool package.

All of these need to be tested, so I invite experimenters to give it a try.

Have fun !
